2017 Chrysler 200 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2017 Chrysler 200, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Engine stalls while driving and displays message that I need to shift to park to restart. This has happened several times. I have not taken it to a mechanic yet but stopped driving it because it is unsafe. * This problem is mentioned here several times.

While driving down the interstate my car jumped a little then I could not go above 20 miles and hour. Once I arrived to a safe location I turned off my engine and then restarted. It seemed ok, but during the incident there was a flash on my dash that said "CHECK THROTTLE". I took it to a service station and they ran a code check on the vehicle. They stated the following: 1. ECM (Engine Control Module) 2. TCM (Transmission Control Module) 3. ORC (Air Bag/Occupant Restraint) My car is a 2017 Chrysler 200 VIN [XXX]. It has 55,600 miles on it, actual miles. Due to these error codes the mechanic stated I need to take the car to a dealership to have them fixed. For years now, my car has randomly, without notice, stalls, says “Shift To P” and goes limp. There’s nothing I can do in that moment besides try to get to safety before the car stops in the middle of the road. I’ve brought it in multiple times with no change or information as to what’s causing it. One dealership claimed I just needed an oil change which it didn’t but to prove my point, I brought it in after it stalled 2-3 days after an oil change. At this point, there’s been zero help or care. It’s only a matter of time until it causes an accident. Other owners definitely have this issue as well since they’re reported on here too. Any help? Or do all of us just lose money or potentially more…?

The car is constantly needs a jump start , and the pedal will not accelerate. I have had multiple diagnosis and they don’t know what it is- the cruise control component comes on at the beginning of the jump start until the car runs. Auto Zone and Midas has checked the battery, alternator, did a draw and they can’t find the issue. When driving the pedal will not accelerate- may have to pull over, and restart- then it works, until you disengage the car. They charged me over 30,000.00 dollars for this vehicle and I’m still paying on it and I can’t even drive it because I feel unsafe, especially with the pedal. It’s too cold to get up and jump start a car every morning. I’m paying 460.54 every month for a car that I don’t know that’s wrong with it- I purchase a warranty and though I didn’t hit the mileage they said it expired because it was for three years. This should be illegal. I really need to drive to get things done. There’s no lights coming to indicate a problem, please assist. it kept [XXX] cutting off and the cruise control, then it stopped. Tried to connect with Chrysler they said they were backed up, only speed issues, like accelerating faster than the mileage, now since it got cold - it won’t even crank up without a jump start, but all things checked and the mechanics can’t find the reason saying it’s electrical. Do you think Chrysler OS messing with my car because that’s dangerous and this is stressful- I’ll send the police report need to find INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have been having trouble with my car for a while where it, most of the time, won’t start on the first try. I’ve been to my dealership multiple times and it just seems as if my car is declining after each session. I can’t even remote start my vehicle anymore. There will be times where I am stopped for a period of time and my car will stall and/or glitch out. The Stability Control and Electric Park Brake Trouble Indicators will come on as well as the Anti-lock Brake System Fault and Electric Power Steering Fault Indicators…All at the same time. I will be looking around for Auto Shops that I trust but later down the line, if there is no breakthrough, I will buy another vehicle.

I WAS DRIVING TOWARDS AN INTERSECTION TO MERGE RIGHT ONTO THE MAIN HIGHWAY WHEN I WAS IN MOTION STILL MY CAR SHUT OFF AND SAID 'SHIFT TO P' WHEN I DID SO IT WOULDN'T RESTART. THE STEERING LOCKED UP AND I COULDN'T MOVE. IT DID NOT GIVE ME ANY WARNING OR SIGN IT WAS GOING TO DO SO. I HAD ALMOST PULLED OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY TOO. THE RADIO AND EVERYTHING WORKED JUST FINE. THIS HAPPENED ONCE LAST YEAR ON A CURVY TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND I GOT LUCKY THAT I HAD A TURN OFF WHEN MY CAR SHUT OFF. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY APPARENTLY RESET THE SYSTEM AND IT HAS BEEN GOOD SINCE. IT'S NOT THE ALTERNATOR AND IT IS NOT THE BATTERY. WE RULED THAT OUT THEN. JUMPING IT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.

PARKED VEHICLE. WHILE VEHICLE ENGINE STILL RUNNING AND PLACED IN PARK, I REMOVED MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT. WITHIN 10 SECONDS OF DOING SO, THE PANEL FLASHED THAT THE AWD WAS DISABLED, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE WARNING INDICATOR STATED TO "HAVE PARKING BRAKE SERVICED" I HAD NOT ENGAGED THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE MANUALLY, BUT ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE THE VEHICLE, ONLY TO FIND THE PARKING BRAKE HAD ENGAGED ON IT'S OWN. I WORK IN AUTOMOTIVE WARRANTY, SO I LOGGED INTO MY WORK ACCOUNT AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A SHORT IN THE ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE SYTEM AND IS RELATED TO THE SEAT BELT. I PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK, CUT THE POWER TO THE ENGINE, WAITED FOR A FEW MINUTES, REPLACED MY SEAT BELT AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. ALL THE SAME CODES FLASHED ON THE PANEL FOR A ABOUT 20 SECONDS, AND THEN CLEARED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE AND HAS AN EPA ISSUED FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORT FOR THE PARKING BREAK AND ABS SYSTEM. NOT SURE WHY THERE ISN'T AN OFFICIAL RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AS IF IT WERE TO OCCUR WHILE DRIVING, INJURY WOULD MOST LIKELY OCCUR WHEN PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM SELF ENGAGES.
