The defect: Collins Bus Corporation (Collins Bus) is recalling certain 2018-2019 TL400, TL408, TH400 and TH408 school buses. The school buses may have been manufactured without a rear backup camera. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."
The risk: Reduced rearward visibility can increase the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Collins will notify owners, and dealers will install a backup camera, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2019. Owners may contact Collins customer service at 1-800-533-1850 extension 424.

Safety recall

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
