Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

1,051 units potentially affected
The defect: CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THE SIDE MARKER LIGHTS IN THE COMBINATION HEADLIGHT AND TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM PHOTOMETRIC VALUE AND 45 DEGREES AS SPECIFIED IN THE STANDARD.
The risk: THE INADEQUACY OF THE FRONT AND REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHTS COULD AFFECT VISIBILITY OF THE MOTOR HOME DURING HOURS OF DARKNESS THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN A MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE MARKER LIGHTS ON THE SIDE AS CLOSE AS REASONABLE TO THE FRONT AND REAR CORNERS AND WIRED INTO THE PARK LIGHT SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 19, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT COUNTRY COACH AT 1-800-547-8015.

I RECENTLY SUBMITTED AN ON LINE FORM ABOUT A VEHICLE I HAVE THAT HAD A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL BUT IT ISN'T. I RECEIVED AN ANSWER THAT JUST REFERRED ME TO A HOT LINE NUMBER TO CALL. SINCE I AM HEARING IMPAIRED, THE PHONE DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, DO YOU HAVE AN ADDRESS WHERE I CAN SEND A LETTER WITH ALL MY DETAILS? I WOULD APPRECIATE AN ADDRESS THAT I CAN WRITE A LETTER TO. THANK YOU. THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER STEERING FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING. THE RV WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE COST TO REPAIR THE STEERING ISSUE WAS $10,197.95. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER WAS REIMBURSED $7,813.37 BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY INSURANCE COMPANY.

POWER STEERING ASSIST SYSTEM FAILED. STEERING ALL BUT LOCKED UP. LUCKILY WE WERE ON A STRAIGHT ROAD. IF WE WERE ON A CURVED ROAD, WE MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT, BECAUSE WE COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE IS A RECALL ON COUNTRY COACH MOTORHOMES 2006-2008 AFFINITY AND MAGNA MODELS, FOR THIS EXACT POWER ASSIST STEERING SYSTEM PROBLEM. MY 2006 INSPIRE 360 HAS THE EXACT SAME CHASSIS AND POWER ASSIST SYSTEM AS THE THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. WE HAVE BEEN SITTING HERE AT REPAIR SHOP ABOUT 1000 MILES FROM HOME, FOR OVER A WEEK NOW WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME FROM UNITED KINGDOM. MECHANIC TELLS ME IT IS GOING TO COST OVER $9,000 TO REPAIR. THAT'S ALOT OF MONEY FOR US. MY QUESTION IS: "WHY IS THIS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL ?" IT IS THE EXACT SAME CHASSIS AND POWER ASSIST SYSTEM AS THE 2006-2008 AFFINITY AND MAGNA MODELS, WHICH HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THEY SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD, UNTIL REPAIRED. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
