What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2013 Dodge Dart, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
The transmission shift cable fails to engage go into reverse or park when car is starting up. It fails to maintain connection and has resulted in near misses when backing up or attempting to get around another vehicle in a parking lot. This appears to be an issue associated with an ongoing safety recall that has NOT had a timely remedy as it has now been 10 months (as of October 2025) since the recall was first announced. No remedy has been reached. Incident appears related to the 2019 recall.
Vehicle has active safety recall A0C/NHTSA 25V-674 for transmission shift cable, but the manufacture states remedy is not yet available. recall notice was recived in October 2025, and no repair has been offered. Vehicle is now experiencing worsening symptoms including transmission slipping/skipping gears and shutting off while driving. Most recently vehicle begun overheating and heater started blowing hot air that can not be turned off. Vehicle has lost center screen/radio system with backup camera. It has gone blank and is no longer functioning Dealership advised there is no available fix and offered a rental per owners expense which is not financially feasible. vehicle is unsafe to drive, especially with a young child who regularly rides in vehicle. Manufacture has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
The transmission and powertrain were inspected due to concerns about the car possibly jolting in a different direction and causing an accident. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and the vehicle has been inspected by both the dealer and a mechanic. The car does indeed jolt unexpectedly.
While driving the vehicle the shifter link bushing detached from the cable and came off the transmission causing the shifter to start floating and I lost all control of the shifter so I could not take my car out of the gear it got stuck in
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
On June 11, 2026, I took my vehicle to a certified dealership to have safety recall R63 (NHTSA Campaign Number 15V-800) performed. The dealership inspected the vehicle, claimed no oil was found at the break booster, and only replaced the vacuum supply tube, leaving the original vacuum pump in place. Recently, I experienced a sudden and total loss of power brake assist while driving, resulting in a rock hard brake pedal. Upon inspecting the vehicle myself, I disconnected the vacuum hose directly at the mechanical vacuum pump and found visible oil pooling at the pump's output fitting. I have captured this on video. This oil migration is the exact defect the recall is intended to fix, and it has now destroyed my brake booster. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership on 7/8/2026. However, the service manager is refusing to replace the brake booster and master cylinder under the R63 recall. They claim the booster failed for unrelated reasons, despite the physical evidence of the oil leak originating from the vacuum pump. The initial recall repair was ineffective at correcting the defect, and the dealership is improperly denying me the federally mandated safety recall remedy by attempting to charge me out-of-pocket for the resulting catastrophic failure.

Shift gear assembly failure
Wipers will not turn off. turn signals are working along with lights except the wipers.
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
The vehicle history does not show any type of accidents. The vehicle history says that the vehicles airbags are in tact. In reviewing my contract from the dealership there is a page that states the vehicle has no airbags. The airbags not being present means the have been deployed due to a collision, right? Im concerned that the vehicle is not the vehicle aligned with the vin. Visually inspecting the physical vin sticker it has rips and is torn is some places. The odometer is always blinking. I am concerned that it may have been altered. Took it in for a alignment at a shop, but the shop said the could not complete the alignment.
Vehicle was sold without airbags.
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
When a passenger is in the car, the air bag light and an audible alert constantly go off while driving. Took it to the dealership and they say this: "it's a seat belt buckle sensor circuit causing orc. light wires are connected and not damaged" To me, the words "not damaged" indicate that this is not our fault. Of course we're not going to let our daughter continue to drive the car like this, but I feel like $522.79, which is what they're charging, in addition to a $99 misc. fee that I don't know what is, is WAY too much for something that I thought would be considered a safety issue.
Transmission shifts rough. Dealership replaced transmission but it has been doing the thing since day one when they replaced it. Motor bogs down when turning. Passenger seat belt flashes and dings even though the belt is clicked. Hands free system longer works. Airbags light is always on. Back up camera is flipped upside down and is a backing hazard. Odometer is flashing as well. Tire pressure sensors will show that there is no air in the tires after driving about 45 mins. It asks if there has been and crashes, I have not but it could happen. you never know when the car isn't going to respond.
Transmission
Reports naming the automatic or manual transmission, including shifting behaviour, shudder, slipping and transmission control modules.
From owner reports, verbatim
There hasn't been an incident at this time, still waiting for the recall part to be fixed. It has been over 10 months since I received the safety recall notice about the transmission shift cable and want to know when it will be fixed. I have called both the [XXX] number and the dealer repeatly. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V674000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Exterior lighting
Reports naming headlights, tail lights, turn signals and other exterior lighting.
From owner reports, verbatim
1)Headlights. I have had issues with my headlights since day one. They are so dull I upgraded the bulbs with the brightest LED bulbs available which did not help my legs did not get any brighter, I've had my headlights adjusted four different times which still did not help. I drive with my brights on anytime I have to drive at night and I still can hardly see anything on the road. It is not my eyes that are bad because multiple people have said the same thing and no one can tell me why my lights are so dime. This year alone I have replaced both my headlamp bulbs and turn signal bulb (left side) a total of 4 times because they have busted. I have ran into 3 ditches because I can't see anything. NOW, I do not drive at night and have lost work as a result. 2)Wheels. I have lost 4 front wheel tires while driving down the interstate in the last 2 years. I've purchased 8 tires during this time &have replaced all the broken lugnuts ea time. The lugnuts all snapped completely in 1/2 when my tires came off. I've been towed ea time and have endangered the life of others as well as my own & now I do not drive long distances & try to avoid going over 45 miles/hrs in fear of this happening again. As a result of loosing my tires while driving on interstate, I've replace right hub assembly 2 times &eft one time in last 2 years. On the electrical, tire, wheels, head lights & bulb replacements and repairs I have spent thousands .I was excited about getting my 1st dodge, but the dangerous, expensive, and horrible experience from my dodge has not only limited my driving to daytime hours on roads no more than 45 mph,, it's put fear in me to drive &purchase another! Every person that has worked on my car, been a passanger & that knows about my car us in utter disbelief as I am. I do not want to sell this vehicle to anyone else, in fear the purchaser could get hurt or hurt someone else! Every blog I've read and reviews for dodge dart have same issues & no re- placement parts available.
In 2013 I bought a new Dodge Dart Limited from a Dodge dealer. I bought the car in March and by October when it got cooler outside, it was evident there were some electrical issues related to the Uconnect screen blanking out and dash lights flickering while driving or when ABS engaged, and engine and battery lights on. The whole car seemed like it was resetting as everything electrical flickered and turned off and then on again. I took the car back to the dealership while it was under warranty at least 3 times to no avail. It would sometimes come back on after turning the car off for a period of time but then it turned off and stayed off for days. The Dodge mechanics claimed they could not get the problem to come up for them at all during yearly visits from 2014-2018. I researched the internet for solutions and disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seemed to fix it so that became a temporary resolution. After a while it became much more consistent and the battery trick didn't always work anymore. So I went to a second Dodge dealership in 2019 when my car was at the end of it's warranty and they did see the issue occur and decided to replace the screen all together. That next winter the problem came back so I went back to the dealership and this time they replaced the body control module. It's the next winter and the center console is completely out so I cannot control hazard lights, the turn signals don't make noise, backup camera is out, seat controls don't work, rear defrost never turns on but the front defrost blasts hot air constantly causing fog. I feel unsafe as I cannot see out of the rear window due to consistent under 40 degrees temps. The dash lights went completely out yesterday and I could not see my speedometer, but it came back on 60 min later. The engine and battery lights are on constantly since the weather changed. The dash lights are a huge safety concern as I don't know how fast I'm driving and it happens while the car is in motion.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
My car has an extremely bad rough idle. I’ve had an alignment done, new tires, new spark plugs. I’ve done so much work to this car. I have done some extremely deep research and it is a VERY common issue in the 2013 Dodge dart. One thing I also read, is it could be caused due to all of the ground point nuts being painted over, not creating a strong circuit for the ground. That should be a recall because I cannot physically replace all of those nuts. If that’s not the issue, there needs to be an investigation to figure out why this car feels like it will stall out, or I’m going to lose a tire going 65 on the interstate. Something isn’t right with this car and the dealership needs to diagnose it for free knowing it’s such a common issue! I have a very trusted, fully certified mechanic, he has looked at my car, and he is stumped too. No one can figure this out
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR MADE A LOUD NOISE AND JERKED REALLY HARD. MY CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE RPM'S JUST KEPT RIVING UP BUT CAR WAS NOT GOING ANY FASTER. IT HAS DONE THIS TWICE IN THE PAST WEEK. THE DEALERSHIP PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND RAN SOME TESTS AND CLEARED OUT ALL CODES AND UPDATED SOME STUFF AND TOLD ME TO LET HI KNOW IF THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. WELL ON THE WAY HOME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND DID THE SAME THING AND JERKED REALLY HARD MAKING MY CAR SLOW DOWN AND NOT ACCELERATE. THE CODE SAYS THE PCM/TCM BUT IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT. IT ACTS LIKE IT DOESNT WANT TO SHIFT INTO THE NEXT GEAR.

Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
My 2013 Dodge Dart is subject to a shifter cable safety recall. The vehicle has been at an authorized Dodge dealership in Texas since November awaiting recall repair. The dealership has confirmed the vehicle is unsafe to drive, but the repair has been delayed for several months. No reliable transportation assistance has been provided during this extended delay. This safety recall has left me without a usable vehicle for an unreasonable amount of time.
The transmission bushing broke and the transmission was disabled. The steering wheel was locked and the key was unable to be removed. The safety of the driver and passenger were at harm on the highway when steering was disabled and the transmission could not be moved after stopping. The problem was produced and was forced to be repaired by a shop for the safety of the driver at expense of the driver. The vehicle was then brought to a dodge dealership in Margate Florida, where the recall was closed, the issue was not fixed. The vehicle broke down immediately following this closure of the recall. The vehicle was inspected and claimed to be repaired by a Dodge Dealership. This is not true. No warning lamps indicated this issue happening once of the two times it broke down.

My name is [XXX], and I am writing to formally report a potentially serious safety issue involving a wheel/rim on my 2013 Dodge Dart SXT with the 2.0L engine. On the night of [XXX], I was driving home from work from Monticello, New York, to Loch Sheldrake, New York. The trip took place late at night and continued past midnight. During or after this trip, I discovered significant damage to one of the vehicle’s wheels. Upon inspection, there appeared to be an opening or breach in the metal of the rim, with irregular and damaged metal surrounding the affected area. I have photographs documenting the condition and can provide them for inspection. I am concerned that this may represent a structural failure or other structural defect of the wheel. A failure of a wheel while the vehicle is being operated could potentially result in loss of tire pressure, tire failure, loss of vehicle control, or a serious accident. To the best of my knowledge, I did not intentionally damage or modify the wheel. I therefore request that Dodge/Stellantis document this incident and determine whether the condition could potentially be related to a manufacturing defect, material defect, casting defect, corrosion, fatigue, or another condition affecting the structural integrity of the wheel. The damaged wheel was removed by my mechanic. Unfortunately, the wheel was subsequently sent to a nearby salvage/junkyard before I was aware that it might be important for a safety investigation. My mechanic informed me that the facility is LKQ – OEM Recycled / Aftermarket by Keystone. I do not currently know the exact location of the facility, but I understand that it is somewhere in the local area. I am attempting to obtain the exact location and determine whether the wheel can still be located and recovered. I have photographic evidence of the damage and can provide it, along with the repair documentation and any other information available to me.
