2014 Dodge Dart Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Dodge Dart, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Dart. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle was physically rocked while in park(P) to enable the transmission to recognize the gear shifter position. Additionally, the vehicle frequently failed to turn off while shifted into park(P). The contact had to cycle the gear shifter between park(P) and reverse(R) until a clicking sound was heard, allowing the ignition to disengage. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was previously repaired by the dealer, but the failure persisted. The contact later discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V674000 (Power Train); however, the dealer confirmed that parts for the repair were not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable time for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

I have an open safety recall that has no available fix. My dealership confirmed they cannot repair it and advised me it may be unsafe. Because I cannot safely operate the vehicle, I am requesting a manufacturer buyback or financial assistance toward a replacement vehicle. Please escalate this to a case manager.

As I read the above comments/complaints on the 2014 Dodge Dart, I have realized that we all are having the same issues with the recall, the car not engaging in park, and the Keyfob not working properly where it takes from 5-30 minutes to turn the car off because it is still in the acc mode. Now the car has started yet ANOTHER problem that it doesn’t want to start. I paid for a tow to the repair shop and they checked everything out and could find absolutely nothing wrong, no codes showing up, nothing. I had bought a new battery, was about to replace the ignition switch and/or starter but the shop had experience with Dodge 2014 before and the same issues with no apparent issues?? I did pay for another key and fob which wasted $200 because even afterwards the fob wouldn’t release due to the car not going into the park position 100% and I’m still having all these problems. It is definitely a safety issue and we all are left here driving this piece of junk that the manufacturer doesn’t seem to have any answer or as they say “remedy” for the issue. And that’s another thing- we are having ISSUES not an issue. This problem has more involved than the recall and for the amount of people that have submitted a complaint should be an eye opener for the manufacturer - because most people don’t even report it because they don’t know to and the service department is going to get the money! There is and has been something going on with the entire braking, parking, transmission, cable, the last recall my car I was told wasn’t affected however the brakes went out totally without any warning or problem before hand. Said there was fluid or something that messed it up and it cost me $2000 to repair it when the exact issue was going on with the dodge dart 2013-2014 but of course MY CAR was not in that recall even though it had the same problem as the cats which were affected by the recall. I’ll never never purchase another Dodge and would advise anyone else not to purchase one.

Following up on case/tracking number 11734334 with further evidence that my VIN should be included in recall 15V-800. The auto shop investigated why my brake booster failed and it was specifically because of engine oil leaking onto the brake booster.

NHTSA ID 11735130 · filed May 1, 2026

My Dart is having the exact braking issue that’s included in the 15V-800 (FCA Recall R63) recall, but my VIN isn’t included in the recall. I just had a local shop tell me that the brake booster is the problem. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost that my local shop will be charging to repair it.

My transmission shift cable disconnected and prevented me from shifting my vehicle into park which is preventing my vehicle from shifting or my vehicle even being able to start. When calling the recall hotline for Dodge they said that a remedy is not available and there is nothing that they can do to repair it temporarily until a permanent fix is available. This recall has been acti6since October of 2025 but there still is no fix for the issue. So now I am supposed to go without a vehicle for however many more months which is going to cost me my job because I do not have a vehicle that will start or run. Dodge needs to get on this issue ASAP because I cannot afford to wait for a remedy.

I'M ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING MY CAR AND IT STOPS IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD . THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALSO. I ALMOST GOT HIT BY A CAR BEHIND ME .

NHTSA ID 11322478 · filed Apr 27, 2020

I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND NOT EVEN A MILE FROM MY HOUSE WHEN I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN MY 2014 DODGE DART SXT STALLED. WHEN IT STALLED THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND I SHUT IT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START THE NEXT TRY. THEN 7 DAYS LATER, I WAS DRIVING NO MORE THAN 30 SECONDS WHEN I WAS COMING TO A STOP AT ANOTHER STOP SIGN AND THE CAR STALLED AGAIN WITH THE BATTERY LIGHT COMING ON. I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN A FEW TIMES BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. I NEEDED A JUMP. I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO A MECHANIC WHO RAN A FEW TESTS ON THE CAR INCLUDING CHECKING THE BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM. HE SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD WHICH I FIGURED SINCE I JUST CHANGED THE BATTERY A YEAR AGO. I DROVE IT HOME. 2 DAYS LATER I WAS TWO BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE WHEN IT STALLED FOR A THIRD TIME (MIND YOU THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE THESE OCCURRENCES). AGAIN, I WAS COMING TO A STOP AND THE CAR STALLED, THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON, AND I NEEDED TO HAVE A JUMP SINCE I COULDN'T GET IT TO START. AFTER RESEARCHING A BIT, THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. A FEW PEOPLE SAID THAT CHANGING THE OIL OR ADDING MORE DID THE TRICK SO I CHECKED MY OIL AND IT WAS FINE PLUS I CHANGED THE OIL 3 MONTHS AGO SO IT ISN'T THAT. MOST CASES MENTIONED THAT THIS STARTED TO OCCUR AROUND THE 50,000 MILE MARK, WHICH IS ABOUT WHERE MINE IS. THERE REALLY SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS CAR ' IT'S A DEATH TRAP! WHEN THE CAR STALLS THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT AS WELL SO IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. THIS ISSUE COULD REALLY HURT SOMEONE AND DODGE REALLY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR FIND A SOLUTION. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JENKINTOWN, PA TO GET LOOKED AT AND WAS INFORMED OF A FEW RECALLS BUT NONE THAT HAD TO DO WITH MY ISSUES. THE FACT THAT THIS IS CLEARLY A COMMON ISSUE IS VERY CONCERNING ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE SEEMS TO BE NO CLEAR SOLUTION.

CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A PUBLIC STREET SEVERAL TIMES AND WOULDN'T START AT TIMES BEFORE IT FINALLY JUST LEFT ME STRANDED. DURING THESE TIMES THERE WAS NO ERROR ON THE SCREEN LETTING ME KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS SO I JUST KEPT TRYING TO DRIVE IT. THEN AFTER AWHILE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON A FEW TIMES BUT IT WAS AT RANDOM TIMES AND DID NOT STAY ON. THE CAR ONLY HAS 18000 MILES AND I'VE ONLY HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY BUT DID NOT CHECK TO SEE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DIE SO QUICK. THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT I DON'T DRIVE IT ENOUGH AND THAT I STOP AND START IT TOO MUCH BECAUSE I WORK TOO CLOSE TO HOME... (THIS IS NOT MY FIRST CAR AND THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE). THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAD THIS CAR SERVICED. THE ENTIRE FIRST YEAR I KEPT GETTING AN ERROR THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS TOO LOW AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS JUST AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER SYSTEM BUT I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES RIGHT AWAY ON A BRAND NEW CAR. SO IT'S ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE TIRES/WHEELS ON A BRAND NEW CAR. PEOPLE BUY NEW CARS TO AVOID THESE PROBLEMS!
