What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Dodge Durango 4X4, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
DURING THE FIRST EPISODE/EVENT, SUDDENLY, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH ON AND OFF, THE WARNING CHIMES SOUNDED, THE ILLUMINATION FOR THE RADIO AND OTHER SIMILAR COMPONENTS BEGAN TO FLASH ON AND OFF. WHEN I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF, THERE WAS A PERSISTENT LOUD CLICKING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD, AS WELL AS VARIOUS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS CONTINUED TO FLASH EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT AN ELECTRICAL JUNCTION BOX UNDER THE DASH HAD 'CORRODED', AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO ADVISED THAT THIS WAS DUE TO WATER FROM FOLLOWING A WIRE LEADING FROM THE ROOF. THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A SUN/MOON ROOF. THE COST, PARTS AND LABOR, WERE OVER $ 800.00. IN JANUARY 2013, THE SAME SYMPTOMS RETURNED. THIS TIME AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THE SAME PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS CAUSED BY THE "WATER FROM MY BOOTS." THE FACT THAT THIS JUNCTION BOX IS ABOVE THE FLOOR LINE MAKES THAT EXPLANATION IMPLAUSIBLE. THE COST TO REPLACE PARTS AND LABOR, $ 775.00. *TR
BOUGHT CAR FROM DEALER IN ABU DHABI - UAE. AT 1500KM THE COOLING FAN WOULDN'T TURN OFF EVEN I SWITCH OFF THE CAR... SO I WAS OBLIGED TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE PROBLEM WAS THE RELAY. AT 2000KM THE ROOF HATCH WAS LEAKING!.. THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE WITH DEALER; IT TOOK THEM 2 WEEKS TO ORDER FROM GERMANY!.. *TR

WHEN FUELING 2006 DODGE DURANGO, FUEL ERUPTS OUT OF FUEL TANK FILLER WHEN TANK FILLS COMPLETELY. THIS IS IDENTICAL TO RECALL 05V034000 BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE 2006 MODEL YEAR. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK WITH FUEL THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH GAS SHOOTING OUT OF THE FILLER NECK WHEN TANK IS NEARLY FULL. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE DUE TO GAS SPILLING OUT ONTO THE GROUND POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE HAZARD. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE GAS TANK. THIS IS ON A 2005 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH 26,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
