1999 Dodge Ram 2500 Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

1999 DODGE RAM 2500 ENTIRE DASHBOARD CRACKED AND FELL APART. REGULAR MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED, AND IT WAS USUALLY IN COVERED PARKING. PIECES FELL INTO THE WIRING AND MECHANISMS STOPPING THEIR USE. I BOUGHT AN OEM REPLACEMENT AND IT ALSO CRACKED. I HAD TO REPLACE THE VENTILATION CONTROLS BECAUSE A PIECE OF THE PLASTIC WEDGED INTO IT AND BROKE THE LEVERS. ALSO, NOTICED TWO WIRES THAT HAD A SHARP PIECE OF PLASTIC BETWEEN THEM ,AND THE VIBRATION HAD WORN AWAY THE INSULATION. I REPLACED THOSE WIRES BEFORE THEY COULD SHORT OUT. *AK

1) THE VEHICLE WAS BEING USED TO TOW A 16' FLATBED TRAILER, WITH THE PURPOSE OF PICKING UP A LOAD OF HAY. THE TRAILER WAS NOT YET LOADED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. 2) THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE FLEW OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN A STATE HIGHWAY, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS CRASH. THE RING INTO WHICH THE LATCH HOOKS CAME FREE OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING THE FAILURE. 3) TO DATE, THE LOCAL DEALER AND DODGE (DAIMLER CHRYSLER) HAVE DECLINED TO ACT ON THE COMPLAINT. *NM
