What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the steering wheel started to shake violently from side to side. As a result, the contact had to depress the brake pedal to diminish the shaking of the steering wheel. No warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the VIN had been included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V350000 (Steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.
Hit a minor pothole at 70 MPH, had sudden "death wobble" and almost lost control of the vehicle. 100, 410 miles on the vehicle, have had minor wobble in the past occasionally. Steering parts replaced at about 37,000 miles due to failures, installed a steering dampener years ago due to the potential problem, also current tires have less than 8,000 miles on them. Clearly a known danger to these vehicles, why no action?
Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim

I WAS ON A ON-RAMP GETTING UP TO HEY SPEED. HIT A LITTLE BUMP WHERE THE OLD AND NEW ASPHALT JOIN AND THE REAR STARTED TO FISHTAIL TO THE LEFT AND STARTED TO SPIN OUT HOT THAT K-RAIL THEN WENT OVER IT ROILING ABOUT 30 FEET FROM IT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY NOR DID THE SEAT BELT LOCK. IT WAS A BIT FOGGY AND THE ROAD SURFACE WAS WET.
Airbags

HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT RANDOM TIMES AT NIGHT CAUSING COMPLETE INABILITY TO SEE ON THE FREEWAY OR BACK ROAD WHERE THERE ARE DITCHES AND THINGS TO WRECK. SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT DEALERSHIP CANNOT RESOLVE WITH USUAL FIXES. MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT LIGHTS GOING OUT. THIS WILL CAUSE DEATHS IF I'M DRIVING 80 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY CAN'T SEE OR PEOPLE CAN'T SEE ME. I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING TO FIX IT WITH THE DEALER. IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS AND FAST SPEEDS AND EVEN PARKED. I'VE HAD THE TIPM REPLACED, REBUILT THE CLUSTER, REMOVED ALL AFTER MARKET ADD ON, BRAND NEW BULBS, CHECKED FOR CODES, REPAIRED WIRING SHORTS. NONE HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM.

WHO REPLACED THE BOLTS ON THE EGR COOLER BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
ALL OF A SUDDEN MY BRAKES FAILED COULD NOT STEER CORRECTLY AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE TRUCK SLAMMING INTO AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. IT FELT LIKE I WAS STEERING TO GO STRAIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL JUST TURNED ON ITS OWN. NOW I HAVE A $2800 BILL TO PAY THE BODY SHOP AND I NEED TO GET MY STEERING BOX REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE HELP WITH THAT. AND MOST IMPORTANT I NEED THESE RECALLS DONE ONCE I GET MY TRUCK OUT OF THE BODY SHOP. MY ONLY REQUEST IS THAT WHEN I BRING IT IN TO THE DEALER I WOULD LIKE THEM TO ALSO FIX MY STEERING BOX AT NO CHARGE.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
The frame has rusted completely through on both driver and passenger sides. The integrity of the frame is severely compromised and may collapse at anytime. This type of failure could be absolutely catastrophic to everyone who may be involved. It has not been confirmed by a dealer, nor has it been inspected by any others yet. It but was inspected by a ASE-certified mechanic and confirmed. I am a disabled veteran, and I am not even sure how to move the truck with its condition for further inspection. The truck is currently available for inspection at my residence. I purchased the truck in July, 2019. I was unaware of the extent of the rust until this past year. I noticed a small hole in the frame, and currently, the frame looks to be missing 20% of its circumference.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE RAM 2500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND COASTED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT IT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP FAILED. THE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THE BEARING CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT TO DETACH. THE SERPENTINE BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND THE SERPENTINE BELT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP TO ALBANY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 2315 SANTIAM HWY SE, ALBANY, OR 97322, (541) 967-9105). THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE DESIGN WAS DIFFERENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,426. *AS CONSUMER STATED THE NARRATIVE ON THIS FORM DESCRIBES THE 2ND FAILED WATER PUMP AT 87K MILES. THE FIRST WATER PUMP FAILED AT 25K . AT THIS LOW OF MILES, THIS VEHICLE IS ON THE 3RD WATER PUMP. IS THERE A DESIGN FLAW? THREE WATER PUMPS IN 87K MILES IS JUST NOT NORMAL. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*JB

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 66 MPH MY 2007 DODGE RAM 2500 4WD DIESEL STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THE DODGE DEATH WOBBLE. THE WHOLE TRUCK STARTED SHAKING AND IT WAS DANGEROUS AND HARD TO CONTROL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 25 IN ALBUQUERQUE NM I HIT AN EXPANSION JOINT IN THE ROAD AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY FORCING ALL OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AROUND ME TO SCATTER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND THE VIOLENT SHAKING DID NOT STOP UNTIL I REACHED APPROX 35-40MPH. I WAS CONVINCED THAT MY WHEEL WAS FALLING OFF OR A MAJOR SUSPENSION COMPONENT HAD FAILED BUT AFTER AN IMMEDIATE INSPECTION THERE WAS NOTHING READILY IDENTIFIED. AFTER A VERY BRIEF SEARCH OF THE WEB IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND NO ONE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT IT WITH REPAIRS. BELOW ARE 3 OF THE MANY YOU TUBE LINKS I FOUND DESCRIBING THE INCIDENT PERFECTLY AS IT HAPPENED TO ME. OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE VIEW OF DEATH WOBBLE: HTTP://YOUTU.BE/6LAMXUPBFDA NEWS STORY CONERNING THE DEATH WOBBLE: HTTP://YOUTU.BE/XMFTRGBYNIM INTERIOR VIEW OF THE DEATH WOBBLE: HTTP://YOUTU.BE/GBHMKYVRIHK I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 YEAR AND AM CONCERNED THAT MY FAMILY IS NO LONGER SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. I CANNOT SELL THIS VEHICLE KNOWING THAT THIS PROBLEM IS PRESENT, PUTTING SOMEONE ELSE IN THE SAME DANGER. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO REPAIR THE ISSUE MYSELF BUT IT APPEAR THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MAY OTHERS WITH NO REAL SOLUTIONS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET SEVERLY INJURED OR KILLED IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED SOON AS IT APPEAR TO BE HAPPENING TO MANY OF THE CHRYSLER HD TRUCKS 2003 TO THE PRESENT. IN ADDITION TO NEARLY 50 COMPLAINTS ON THE SAFECAR.GOV WEBSITE OF THE SAME ISSUE. DODGE NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND AT LEAST PROVIDE THE PROPER ENGINEERING REQUIRED TO LET US KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. NHTSA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FORCE THE HAND OF CHRYSLER TO TAKE OWNERSHIP AND ISSUE THE PROPER FIX FOR THE ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT HAS NOT REPORTED THE FAILURE TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE RAM 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DECELERATED AS HE DOWNSHIFTED BETWEEN FIFTH AND FOUR GEAR. WHILE DRIVING 42 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO DISENGAGE WHEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE COASTED WHEN HE RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL. HE STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AUTOMATICALLY RE-ENGAGED AT 30 MPH. WHEN MANUALLY SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO FIFTH GEAR, THE TRANSMISSION OPERATES NORMALLY, HOWEVER, IT FAILS TO FUNCTION AUTOMATICALLY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR IT TO BE TEST DRIVEN. THE DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED HIM TO CALL NHTSA. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 3,855. UPDATED 12-12-07. *KB WHEN THE CONSUMER LIFTED HIS FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW DOWN, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED AND DECELERATED THE CONSUMER STATED IT FELT AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS FREE-WHEELING.
