Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

THE DASH ON MY 1999 DODGE RAM 1500 PICKUP IS CRACKING HORRIBLY AND FALLING APART. I'M AFRAID THAT IN AN ACCIDENT, SHOULD THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOY, THAT IT MIGHT CAUSE THE DASH TO FRAGMENT, SENDING SHRAPNEL FLYING THROUGH THE TRUCK. *JB

I NOTICED MY VEHICLE'S BRAKES WERE GRABBING IN THE MORNING AFTER SITTING ALL NIGHT. THE GRABBING WOULD STOP AFTER A COUPLE APPLICATIONS OF THE BRAKES BUT IT WAS APPARENT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO JACK POWELL CHRYSLER DODGE AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A BRAKE JOB. THE BRAKE JOB WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT MY 99 DODGE 2300 DIESEL INTO THE ABOVE DEALER FOR A BRAKE PROBLEM ON 2-17-05. THEY CHARGED ME 568.00 FOR THE WORK. SINCE THAT TIME I'VE BEEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER ON FOUR ADDITIONAL OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. BY 7-2-05 THE PROBLEM RETURNED. I HAVE BEEN BACK TO THIS DEALER ON 9-22-05 FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAD A FOURTH OCCASION BUT CAN'T FIND THE PO AT THIS POINT. I HAVE NOW LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THIS DEALER AS OF 12-23-05 FOR THE FIFTH TIME FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME FOR THE SAME REASON THEY HAVE NOW DECIDED TO CALL THE "FIVE STAR TECH SUPPORT OF DAIMLER CHRYSLER". I KNOW EACH DEALER IS INDIVIDUALLY OWNED BUT THEY SELL/SERVICE(?) AND DEAL WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS. I'M VERY DISSATISFIED AND FEEL THE DEALER HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE PROPER SERVICE. I TALK WITH THEM AND THEY MINIMIZE AND SAY "WE'RE TRYING TO FIX YOUR CAR". THIS LAST TIME, THE SERVICE MANAGER (MR. BLOCK)DIRECTED ME TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE HOME AND BACK. OKAY, I HAVE A BRAKE PROBLEM BUT YOUR DEALER WANTS ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK AND FORTH TO THEIR SHOP? WHEN ASKED ABOUT THIS, I WAS TOLD IT ONLY HAPPENED IN THE AM SO IT WAS OKAY. I MAY HAVE OTHER OPTIONS WHICH I WILL BE EXPLORING BUT THIS EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR PRODUCT AND DEALER SURELY MAKE THE TITLE "FIVE STAR DEALER" A JOKE. *NM

I HAVE A 1999 DODGE RAM 2500 4X4, WITH A CUMMINS DIESEL 5.9 I HAD TO HAVE THE INJECTOR PUMP AND LIFT PUMP REPLACED AT 98000 MILES. TODAY I WAS ALMOST HIT BROADSIDE BECAUSE THE INJECTOR PUMP AND LIFT PUMP FAILED AGIAN. I HAVE 123000 MILES ON THE TRUCK TODAY. THOSE PUMPS SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN 25000 MILES. WHEN MY TRUCK WAS REPAIRED THE FIRST TIME IT WAS COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY I HAD PURCHASED WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW FROM DODGE. I AM NOW BEING TOLD IT WILL COST ME ALMOST $6000.00 TO FIX IT AGIAN. I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY, AND QUITE FRANKLY DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY IT. IT HAS BEEN LESS THAN A YEAR SINCE THE FIRST REPLACEMENT PUMPS. THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS LONG AGO. THE NEW CUMMINS ENGINES DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. CUMMINS SHOULD MAKE THE ENGINES THAT DO HAVE PROBLEMS RIGHT. I DO NOT ABUSE THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE NOT MODIFIED THIS VEHICLE. I DO NOT TOW HEAVY LOADS WITH THIS VEHILCE. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED AS A RESULT OF THSES ENGINE FAILURES. PLEASE MAKE CUMMINS AND DODGE RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
