The defect: DUCATI IS RECALLING 7,130 MY 2007-2008 1098, 1098S, 1098 TRICOLORE, 1098R, AND MY 2008-2009 848 MOTORCYCLES. THE MOTORCYCLE CHARGING SYSTEM MAY BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED BY ENGINE HEAT AND STOP OPERATING. THIS RESULTS IN DAMAGE TO THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND ENSUING BATTERY DISCHARGE.
The risk: THIS CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE MOTORCYCLE AND A POTENTIAL HAZARD TO THE RIDER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR, INSTALL A HEAT GUARD BETWEEN THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR AND THE ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM, AND INSTALL A MODIFIED BATTERY SUPPORT. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON DECEMBER 24, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-800-231-6696.

The defect: DUCATI IS RECALLING 3,614 MY 2007-2008 1098, 1098S, AND 1098 TRICOLORE MOTORCYCLES. THE REAR DRIVE SPROCKET CAN FAIL.
The risk: IF THE SPROCKET WERE TO FAIL WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE IS BEING DRIVEN, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE MOTORCYCLE WILL EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND/OR THE CHAIN MAY BECOME ENTANGLED WITH THE CHASSIS. THIS CAN RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR DRIVE SPROCKET. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 25, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-408-253-0499.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DUCATI 1098 MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK SWELLED TO MORE THAN THREE QUARTERS ITS NORMAL SIZE. THIS FAILURE CAUSED FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF THE FUEL TANK. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE ETHANOL USED IN GASOLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED BUT THE FUEL TANK WOULD BE REPLACED WITH THE SAME TYPE OF FUEL TANK THAT PREVIOUSLY FAILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000.

I PURCHASED A '08 DUCATI SPORT CLASSIC SPORT 1000 IN APRIL 2009. IT WAS USED WITH 1,200 MILES ON IT. WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF PURCHASE THE GAS TANK "SPREAD". THIS MEANS THE PLASTIC GAS TANK DISTORTED IT'S SHAPE ENOUGH TO COME COMPLETELY OFF IT'S MOUNT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GAS TANK. DUCATI IS REPLACING THIS TANK WITH AN EXACT DUPLICATE. SINCE THE REPLACEMENT TANK IS THE SAME MATERIAL AS THE ORIGINAL, I EXPECT THE "SPREADING " PROBLEM TO RE-OCCUR. THE PROBLEM IS IN THE MATERIAL USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GAS TANK. DUCATI IS GIVING US DEFECTIVE TANKS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TANKS ON THE BIKES. *TR

2008 DUCATI MONSTER S2R 1000, PLASTIC TANK EXPANDS OVER TIME (ABOUT 3000 MILES) TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS COMPLETELY OFF OF THE SUPPORTS ON THE FRAME. THERE WAS A REPORT OF A DUCATI TANK EXPLODING IN NORTH CAROLINA... DUCATI AGREED TO REPLACE MY TANK UNDER THEIR EMISSIONS WARRANTY. HOWEVER, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE BIKE WHEN ITS WARRANTY EXPIRES, OR WHEN THIS ISSUE BECOMES WIDELY KNOWN AND NOONE WOULD WANT THIS BIKES USED. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,900 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.

BUT MY STALLS AT TURNS AT LIGHTS R WHEN IN TRAFFIC OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS BIKE R HAVING SAME PROBLEMS .I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER ONCE STILL STALLS . JUST MADE SECOND APP.
