1996 Ducati 900SSSP Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE MAIN FRAME OF THE MOTORCYCLE CRACKED ACROSS THE UPPER FRAME TUBES AT THE WELDS WHERE THE STEARING HEAD IS ATTACHED TO THE REMAINDER OF THE FRAME. BECAUSE I NOTICED THE DAMAGE BEFORE COMPLETE FAILURE OCCURED THERE WERE NO INJURIES. HAD COMPLETE FAILURE OCCURED THE MOTORCYCLE WOULD HAVE BEEN UN CONTROLABLE. SUBSEQUENT TO MY DISCOVERY OF THE DAMMAGE I DISCOVERED THAT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAS OCCURED IN THE PAST WITH MANY OTHER 900SS MODEL DUCATIS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO IS CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURE. INFORMATION REGARDING THIS TYPE OF FAILURE MAY BE FOUND AT SEVERAL WEB SITES INCLUDING CLUB DESMO'S BULLETIN WWW.CLUBDESMO.COM/NEWBBS/MESSAGES/23/23.HTM. *AK

FRAME CRACKING IS A PROBLEM WITH DUCATI 900CC MOTORCYCLES. IT IS A REGULAR TOPIC OF DISCUSSION ON THE WEB SITES AND ON GROUP RIDES. DEPENDING ON LOCATION AND MILAGE THE DEALER REACTION HAS VARIED FROM WARRENTIED FRAME REPLACEMENT TO DENIAL OF MANUFACTURER FAULT. WHILE I HAVE NOT EXPERIANCED THIS FAULT MYSELF, IT IS DANGEROUS ENOUGH THAT I BELIEVE T SHOULD BE REPORTED AND INVESTIGATED.
