2004 Ducati 999S Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

HI I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT ANYTHING, JUST ASKING A QUESTION ABOUT A SERIOUS PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH MY DUCATI 999S 2004 MODEL. MY FRONT BRAKE SEIZED UP ON ME RECENTLY WITHOUT ME PULLING THE LEVER. THIS RESULTED IN ME NEARLY KILLING MYSELF. I CHECKED YOUR SITE AND NOTICED THERE WAS RECALLS FOR DUCATI 999S 2004- 2005 AND 2006. THIS RECALL WAS IN 2006. I EMAILED DUCATI ASKING THEM IF THERE WAS ANY RECALLS IN EUROPE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND I RECEIVED A PHONECALL THE NEXT DAY SAYING THAT EUROPE HASN'T HAD ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I TOOK MY DUCATI TO A DUCATI DEALER IN CARDIFF WALES AND THEY CHECKED THE BRAKES FROM THE CALIPERS UP, CHANGED THE BRAKE FLUID AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. I MENTIONED THAT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE POOR PIVOT ALIGNMENT AND I WAS TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT AFFECT UK BIKES. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN RIDING THE BIKE NOW AND I AM WONDERING IF THIS PART HAS BEEN PUT ON SOME OF THE UK BIKE. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PART WAS BOUGHT BY A PREVIOUS OWNER. BECAUSE I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE FAIRING HAS BEEN SPRAYED SO I DARE SAY THE BIKE MAY HAVE HAD DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE LEVER AND REPLACE WITH EITHER A NEW ONE OR A SECOND HAND ONE. WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN A RECALL PART. COULD ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 DUCATI DS1000 MOTORCYCLE. THE BIKE EXHIBITS A STRONG SHUDDERING BEHAVIOR WHEN MAKING MEDIUM-STRENGTH STOPS STARTING FROM 15-20 MPH. THE WHOLE FRONT END OF THE BIKE SHAKES VIOLENTLY. ALTHOUGH THIS HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT YET I FEAR THAT AN ACCIDENT COULD BE CAUSED, ESPECIALLY IF I NEED TO MAKE ANY STEERING INPUT WHILE THIS SHAKING OCCURS. THIS SHAKING IS HIGHLY REPEATABLE AND WAS CONFIRMED BY THE LOCAL DUCATI DEALER, MUNROE MOTORS, DURING MY 600 MILE SERVICE YESTERDAY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE BIKE'S GEOMETRY AND THAT DUCATI MAY OR MAY NOT BE LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO PROMISED FIX. *AK

AFTER PARKING THE MOTORCYCLE THE CONSUMER TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, BUT THE STARTER WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN. CONSUMER HAD TO RESTART THE IGNITION, AND REMOVE THE GROUND WIRE FROM THE BATTERY. CONSUMER FOUND FRAYED WIRES IN THE EXAMINATION OF THE STARTER. THE WIRES WERE REPAIRED, AND MOTORCYCLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. *AK

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
