2017 Ducati Supersport Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Our database holds 7 NHTSA owner-reported complaints for the 2017 Ducati Supersport. Each one is a report filed by an owner or driver and published by NHTSA without most of them being verified. A complaint is not a confirmed defect, not a recall and not a manufacturer bulletin. Narratives are shown exactly as filed.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Fuel system
Filed Feb 3, 2022

The fuel gauge has gone bad multiple times. Some times the fuel gauge will go to zero with fuel still in it or it will stick at half tank when it is less than that. My local Ducati service center has replace the fuel gauge 3 times now and the bike only has 3500 miles on it. Talking to the service manager he says this is a known issue but Ducati will not fix it. This is an issue will all the models not just the super sport. I talked to a regional service rep last summer and he said it is because of the type of fuel used in the US. They why doesn't Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, etc have the same issue?

MOTORCYCLE IS EQUIPPED THE DUCATI QUICK SHIFTER (DQS). WHEN DOWNSHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 2ND BIKE WILL OCCASIONALLY, AT LEAST ONCE PER OUTING, POP OUT OF GEAR AND GO INTO A 'FALSE' NEUTRAL. VERY DISCONCERTING ESPECIALLY WHEN GOING INTO A CORNER. HAVE REPEATEDLY COMPLAINED TO MY DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE SITUATION BUT THEY SEEM NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND TO BLAME DRIVER ERROR, ME. I HAVE OVER 27K MILES ON THIS BIKE, I THINK I'D KNOW HOW TO RIDE THIS PARTICULAR BIKE PROPERLY BY NOW.

PURCHASED BIKE NEW IN AUGUST 2018 AND HAS LESS THAN 1K MILES. UNEXPLAINED LEAK HAS DEVELOPED NEAR AIR INTAKE. LEAK IDENTIFIED NEAR THE END OF JANUARY 2020. REAR BRAKE IDENTIFIED TODAY AS COMPLETELY INOPERABLE BUT BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IS FULL. NO ERROR MESSAGES OR SYSTEM FAILURE ALERTS INCLUDING A MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS SYSTEM WAS CAPTURED BY THE BIKE'S ELECTRONICS. I IDENTIFIED THE REAR BRAKE FAILURE DURING MY PRE-RIDE INSPECTION ON 2/17/2020. HAVE CONTACTED A DUCATI AUTHORIZED DEALER IN MY AREA FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND RESOLUTION.

WHILE RIDING THE MOTORCYCLE THE TWO REAR VIEW MIRRORS VIBRATE TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT IS BEHIND YOU. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING REAR VIEW MIRRORS. I HAVE CONTACTED DUCATI NORTH AMERICA ABOUT THIS AND THEY WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. IF YOU READ ALL 161 POSTS ON THE DUCATI SUPERSPORT FORUM YOU CAN SEE THAT IT IS A WIDE-SPREAD ISSUE INVOLVING THIS MODEL: HTTP://WWW.DUCATISUPERSPORT939.NET/FORUM/129-APPEARANCE-MODIFICATIONS/2714-MIRROR-VIBRATIONS.HTML

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
