The defect: Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 FCCC XCL, XCM, XCP, and XCR motorhome chassis manufactured January 23, 2012, to April 10, 2014. The throttle pedal position sensor on the affected vehicles may not return to zero, causing the engine brake to suddenly not activate as expected, reducing the vehicle's deceleration ability.
The risk: A sudden loss of an engine brake without warning on a motorhome may lead to a reduced brake ability, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the throttle pedal, free of charge. An interim notice was mailed out to owners on July 5, 2016. The recall began on August 18, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-711.

The defect: Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 FCC XCS, XCM, XCR, XCL, XCP, XBS, XBR, and XBP trucks manufactured from January 7, 2013, through June 1, 2015. On certain motorhome chassis built with a heavier, adjustable, offset, foot pedal, the brake activation signal to certain towed devices may not deactivate when the motorhome service brakes are released.
The risk: If the brake activation signal to a towed device remains active when the motorhome chassis service brakes are released, the brakes on a towed device may remain engaged depending on brake configuration of the trailer. As a result, the brakes would drag and possibly overheat potentially resulting in a fire. Additionally, following drivers may be confused by the motorhome's actions, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will modify the affected brake assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on June 6, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's recall number for this campaign is FL-704.

The defect: Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Freightliner Custom Chassis XCP chassis manufactured from April 26, 2013, through January 15, 2015. The power steering fluid temperature may exceed the power steering hose material ratings on some rear engine chassis built with certain 18,000lb and 20,000lb-load capacity front axles used in motor home applications. This can cause the hose to fail, resulting in a sudden loss of power steering fluid and power assist.
The risk: Loss of power steering assist would result in increased difficulty to steer the vehicle in either direction at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the power steering hose with a hose that has a higher temperature rating, free of charge. The recall began on July 22, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's recall number for this campaign is FL-702.

POWER TRAIN

FCCC Service Bulletin for Axle Flange Gasket Replaced with O-Ring. Daimler Trucks North America has released a new axle shaft to hub rubber O-ring (part number 11-30728-000) as a replacement for the paper gasket (part number 11-14418-000). The new O-ring will provide better sealing and is reusable. It is quicker and easier to use compared to the paper gasket, because using a paper gasket requires cleaning the hub when the axle shaft is removed.

POWER TRAIN; STEERING

Revised Warranty Policy Letter for Alliance/Mascot Aftermarket Warranty and Claim Filing. Revisions are in blue. With Mascot now in partnership with Detroit Reman and Alliance Parts, DTNA is pleased to announce that Mascot coverage has been added to OWL. Remanufactured Alliance/Mascot parts include transmission, differential, steering gear, and steering pump used in an on-highway vehicle applications. The Alliance/Mascot aftermarket warranty coverage period has not changed: depending on the part, coverage is for one (1) or two (2) years and current parts, labor, and reimbursement policies apply.

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
