1999 Fleetwood Discovery Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Fleetwood Discovery, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

THE RECREATIONAL VEHICLE CONTAINED CRACKS IN THE REAR WALLS, ALSO THE FRONT FINDER CRACKED DUE TO VIBRATION.*JB

NHTSA ID 10004575 · filed Feb 3, 2003

I WAS GOING UP THE STEPS GETTING INTO MY MOTORHOME, AND I USED THE GRAB HANDLE TO PULL MYSELF UP AND IT CAME APART IN MY HANDS, I FELL BACKWARDS, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO CATCH MYSELF BEFORE I FELL DOWN. HAD THIS HAPPENED TO AN OLDER PERSON IT COULD OF BEEN REAL BAD. THE PULL HANDLE IS MADE OF CLEAR PLASTIC AND IT APPEARED TO HAVE STRESS CRACKS/MARKS IN THE PLASTIC. I SAVED THE OLD PIECE. I CONTACTED THE MFG. FLEETWOOD AT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER 800-322-8216 AND SPOKE WITH "MICHAEL" WHO INFORMED ME IT WAS ONLY GUARANTEED FOR ONE YEAR. I BELONG TO "THE DISCOVERY OWNERS ASSOCIATION" WHICH WE HAVE ABOUT 1700 COACH OWNER MEMBERS AND THRU OUR WEB SITE, WEB MASTER BOB COOK E-MAIL [email protected], HE INFORMED ME OF NUMEROUS FAILURES OF THE OUTSIDE DOOR GRAB HANDLE. I FEEL THIS IS A HAZZARD TO THE ELDERLY COACH OWNERS AS WELL AS THE YOUNGER ONES TOO. FLEETWOODS ATTITUDE IS NOT A CONCERN ABOUT THIS ITEM. THE PLASTIC EVIDENTLY PUT UNDER A STRESS WHEN ITS MADE. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN FORWARDED TO JIM POURROY OF RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA A TECHNICAL SERVICE TRAINER WITH FLEETWOOD PHONE 909-274-2000.*AK

FLEETWOOD TELLS US THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND TO BE SURE TO HAVE MY WIFE WEAR HER SEATBELT ALSO TO KEEP BOTH LOCKS LOCKED. THE DOOR SHOULD STAY SHUT JUST BY FORCE. FLEETWOOD LAST REPAIRED THIS IN JUNE, 2002 AT THE DECATUR, IN LOCATION. ONE OF THEIR REPRESTATIVES MADE A HOUSE CALL ON 7/30/02 AND ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR IT AGAIN. FOR THE AMOUNT THAT WAS PAID FOR THIS VEHICLE WE SHOULD HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE.
