What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Ford E-450, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

TREAD BELT SEPARATION. *TR
LOUD NOISE FROM MOTORHOME WHILE DRIVING. REAR RIGHT TIRE (FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4S) HAD BULGED AND THE TREAD HAD SEPERATED FROM THE TIRE, LEAVING THE STEEL SHOWING. IT RIPPED THE MUD FLAP OFF AND DAMAGED THE REAR WHEELWELL. AFTER REPLACING IT, AND LESS THAN 10 MILES LATER, WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AGAIN. THE REAR LEFT TIRE HAD A LARGE BULGE AND THE TREAD HAD SEPERATED FROM IT. A THIRD TIRE ALSO HAS A BULGE.

I HAVE A 1999 E450 RV WITH HANKOOK TIRES BELT ARE SEPARATING MANUFACTURER DATE 5/13.
IN 1999 I PURCHASD A NEW GULFSTREAM '30 FOOT MOTOR HOME, IT WAS BUILT ON A FORD E450 CHASSIS. THE UNIT WAS SHIPPED WITH "E" RANGE TIRES. I HAD A SEVEN TIRE ROTATION AT 5000 MILES, AT WHICH TIME THE SPARE WAS PUT INTO USE. IN A CHECK OF TIRE PRESSURES BEFORE MY LAST TRIP I FOUND A "D" RANGE TIRE(THE ORIGNAL SPARE?). I HAVE DRIVEN 25000 MILES ON THIS TIRE AT 20PSI OVER MAX RATED PRESSURE. I FEEL VERY LUCKY THAT THIS TIRE DID NOT BLOW AT 65 MPH. IS THIS A STANDARED PRACTICE TO SHIP CUTAWAYS WITH LOWER RANGE(CHEAPER) TIRES?

FUEL, COIL, PROPANE THIS IS NOT A GOOD MIXTURE FOR GETTING YOUR RV TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THIS ENGINE IS A DEADLY AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE THE SPARK PLUG AND OTHER STUFF SHOT OUT AS IF FROM A CANNON! THIS RV WE USE TAKE MY VENTILATOR DEPENDENT SON [XXX] TO HIS DOCTORS? APPOINTMENTS, ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I BOUGHT THIS RV WAS FOR MY HANDICAP SON. THIS RV WE TAKE ON OUR FAMILY VACATIONS WITH OUR HANDICAP CHILDREN IN THIS RV FULL OF PROPANE,. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINES BEFORE THERE IS A CATASTROPHE.
