2008 Ford Edge Problems

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V001000 (Air Bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact called another local dealer; Madelia Ford (601 E Main St, Madelia, MN 56062) and was informed that parts were not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Rear driveshaft support failed while driving. A lot of smoke, noise and very bad vibration. Was traveling at a low speed(25mph). If the driveshaft had come apart, it could have easily caused damage to the body and its passengers. It also could've struck and damaged any vehicles near by. After speaking to the Ford dealer, they dais that it was a fairly common occurrence, which surprised me. Thanks for reading my complaint.

The transmission randomly gets stuck in 1st gear and won’t shift beyond that. The RPMs rev up real high and the only way to fix it is to pull off the road and turn the car off and back on. The transmission also bumps really hard shifting sometimes or revs up real high before shifting with a big thud. The dealership says they can’t diagnose it if it’s not doing it when I bring it in. They said the same thing about my alternator when it kept going out on me driving. They never could get it to mess up when they had it.

Purchased a duralast battery from AutoZone store #1299 in Hialeah in August 3rd and installed it. The staff was insistent that this battery was a direct replacement part for my lead acid battery. The car drove normally for approximately a month, and on the morning of September 6th started normally with no warning lights. After being driven less than a quarter mile, in slow-moving traffic, the car suddenly lost all power and large amounts of smoke came from under the hood accompanied by a burning smell. This happened in an intersection during 830 AM traffic on a weekday and I was unable to immediately exit the vehicle. This could have been a fatal incident for myself or potentially others. It was towed to a mechanic who started disassembling it to determine the damages. As per the mechanic, there is evidence of an electrical fire - the cables connected to the battery have melted and the alternator (which was TESTED AND INSTALLED BRAND NEW LESS THAN 2 YEARS AGO) are damaged. The mechanics have also stated that the fans and cooling system have been affected, but not to what extent as they are still mid-teardown. When they attempted to put a load on the battery, it began to overheat dangerously, and they state that it is the likely culprit of the fire. I attempted to return the battery to the store I had purchased it at, where the staff were verbally abusive and insisting that it was impossible for a battery to cause an electrical fire and they'd never heard of such a thing, and that perhaps my mechanic was the one who had messed up my car. They refused to aceept a return, and kept telling me the battery was good. They provided me with a area manager phone number who is avoiding all communication. Meanwhile, I am without my vehicle, which requires EXTENSIVE ELECTRICAL REPAIRS and may be a total loss. If they are selling defective batteries to clients, they are putting the public at risk, doubly so by refusing to take any sort of accountability for their product.

The locked door emblem sporadically comes on and stays on. It makes my interior lights stay on. It runs my battery down. The back passenger side door was opened by a rider and the lock all doors button had been engaged. The red light was on to show doors were not locked. This has been an ongoing issue for several months now. I have an appointment at Ford garage 09/13/22.

When I accelerate, my car jerks or the shifting is not smooth anymore. Others have been quoted over $9k to fix this issue.

HERE WE ARE YEARS LATER AND STILL THE SAME ISSUES....LOSS OF POWER WITHOUT WARNING, SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. BANGS WHEN SHIFTING, VERY ROUGH SHIFTING. FEELS LIKE ITS IN 1ST GEAR AND THEN SHIFTS ROUGHLY INTO GEAR, OR I HAVE TO STOP SHUT IT OFF AND START AGAIN. I SEE ALOT OF THE SAME COMPLAINT AND NO RECALL? ITS GETTIN STUPID NOW! THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED, IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE!

The internal water pump failed on my 2008 Ford Edge (3.5L V6), allowing coolant to leak into the engine oil. This caused catastrophic engine damage and complete engine failure. The water pump is internally mounted and driven by the timing chain. When it fails, coolant contaminates the oil, destroying the engine without adequate warning. There was no external leak prior to failure. This is a known issue affecting many Ford vehicles with this engine design.

I am reporting what I believe to be mileage roll back and fraud. The vehicle was bought from a private seller and upon submitting paperwork to the DMV, it was found that the mileage on the car's odometer was less than the mileage on the car's title information.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The brake pedal stop bumper/stop-lamp switch bumper disintegrated and fell out. Without the bumper, the brake pedal no longer depresses the brake-light switch far enough, causing the brake lights to remain continuously illuminated. I still have the remaining pieces of the bumper and they are available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The brake lights remained on continuously even when the brake pedal was not being pressed. This could prevent drivers behind me from knowing when I am actually braking, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision. The continuously illuminated brake lights could also drain the vehicle’s battery. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. The problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealer or independent repair facility. However, I reproduced the issue myself. When the missing bumper material is placed back at the contact point, it depresses the brake-light switch and the brake lights turn off normally. When the bumper is removed, the brake lights remain on. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. The vehicle and failed component have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or a repair facility. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no warning messages associated with the bumper failure that I noticed. The first obvious symptom was that the rear brake lights remained illuminated continuously after the brake pedal was released. Inspection of the brake-pedal area then revealed that the small brake pedal stop bumper had deteriorated/disintegrated and fallen out.

The component that failed was my Break Booster and I almost wasn't able to stop. I took my vehicle to my local independent service center and they said I am lucky and that the Break Booster broke and it was just hanging on by a little bit and that is the only reason I was able to stop my vehicle. No warning lamps came on that it broke or was not functioning properly. It took longer to stop and almost caused an accident. The Mechanic informed me this should never happen and to report my issue. I have not had it inspected by any authority but it was inspected by my personal mechanic at their Independent Shop.

The problem is the smell of gasoline when standing near the car. The associated recall has been evaluated by several dealers over the years. None have arranged to complete the recall.

My vehicle 2008 Ford edge had a safety recall from 2012 and the gas tank that the previous owners never had taken care of it or resolved. I purchased a car in February. I filled the gas tank. I parked it in my condo and I used my secondary car to go to work that day. Well, the management called me and said that my gas tank exploded and that there was fuel all over the condo parking lot. Had the fire department come and secure the car they took care of the gasoline in the parking lot and then I had it towed to Miller Ford when we found out that there was a recall on that gas tank. This car has been at this dealership three times it’s going tomorrow. This will be the fourth time for the same issue. I feel that this car is not safe. I feel that because nobody addressed this safety recall since 2012 that everything was corroded. I almost got into three accidents because the car stalled on me on three different occasions.

Front axle snapped. Power steering rack faulty. Leaks all fluids other than oil! Tire stud snapped sent me into a ditch. Transmission has been rough and leaking and only 160k miles. Manual says no need to warm up car as it's got a magic part. Well transmission is blown after following manual to the T on matinece and operation. My family is a ford family! Minus one after this 08 edge can't believe they are allowed on the road. Help!!!!

The contact stated that two full sets of tires were replaced within a month. In addition, the contact stated that the tires were fractured down to the wire. The contact stated that someone informed the contact that sparks were noticed coming from the tires. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not associated with a recall related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 242,000.

REAR TAIL LIGHT BULBS ARE MELTING, SEVERAL TIMES NOW, AFTER DOING RESEARCH IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, SO I SEE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE. MY TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT AND WENT TO REPLACE IT AND DISCOVERED THE BULB WAS MELTED INTO THE SOCKET. (THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES NOW, I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE. (IT MAY BE A FACTORY ELECTRICAL DESIGN FLUKE)ALSO IVE BEGAN TO LOSE GAS ANDVIT IS NOT REMAINING IN THE GAS TANK. IT HAS CAUSED MY GAS LIGHT TO COME ON. WHICH TRIGGERED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON AS WELL. THIS HAPPENED ON OR ABOUT 12/15/2020. THEN THE BEARINGS AN BEGAN TO SHAKE AND WOBBLE BADLY. FROM THE CONTAMINATES AMD SALTS. I AM REALLY HAVING DIFFICULTIES WITH MY VEHICLE AND IM IN MEED OF HELP BADLY. NOW AS OF 1/5/2021 MY CAR HAS STARTED TO FISH TAIL SHOWING THE SWAY BAR IS GIVING OUT

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER. THE ONLY CHOICE I HAD WAS TO STEER THE WHEEL TO A SAFE POSITION ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN THE HAPPENED THE DOORS WERE LOCKED WINDOWS WERE CLOSED SHUT I WAS ALMOST UNABLE TO GET OF THE TRUCK SAFELY. ALSO I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AFTER GET A NEW SET OF TIRES AND THE TRUCK BEGAN TO MAKE A SCRUBBING SOUND AS IF THE WHEELS WAS GRINDING AGAINST SOMETHING NOTHING WAS THERE. I REMEMBER A RECALL ON THE WHEEL HUB AND I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND I DON'T RECALL GETTING THE PROBLEM REPAIRED BUT MY VIN RETURNS BACK NO ACTIVE RECALLS AND I CAN NOT HELP BUT WONDER IF THERE IS AN ERROR.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,822.

2008 FORD EDGE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND STICKS IN GEAR AND SHIFTS VERY ERRATICALLY. IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY OR MORE DEPENDING ON HOW OFTEN IT IS DRIVEN. THE CAR HAS BECOME UNRESPONSIVE AT DIFFERENT TIMES TO THE THE GAS PEDAL AND HAS ACTUALLY SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, WE WERE ABLE TO COAST BARELY TO SAFETY. FROM READING FORD FORUMS IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND FORD KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT WILL DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I HAD THE LIFT GATE OPEN LOADING GROCERIES AND IT ALL OF A SUDDEN RELEASED AND CAME DOWN AND STRIKING MY HEAD AND NECK AND I QUICKLY PUSHED IT BACK UP AND IT JUST DROPPED DOWN AGAIN BEFORE I COULD GET MYSELF CLEAR STRIKING ME AGAIN, IT GOT MY NECK AND SHOULDER. I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS FIRST WAS TOLD IT WAS A PROBLEM FOR THE BODY SHOP, BUT THEY QUICKLY DETERMINED IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE LIFT GATE IS VERY HEAVY AND I DO HAVE TO SEE A DOCTOR FOR THE PERSISTENT PAIN IN THE NECK AND SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE GROCERY STORE.THERE WASN'T A VEHICLE ACCIDENT BUT I DID RECEIVE AN INJURY TO MY NECK AND SHOULDER, EXTENT TO BE DETERMINED.*DT CONSUMER STATED WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE STARTS TO SHAKE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES AND THE BACK SEAT PASSENGER HAD LACERATIONS ON THE FACE AND BROKEN GLASSES. ALSO, THE REAR SEAT BELT FAILED TO TIGHTEN. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED.
