The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. While the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that two months later, while the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The vehicle was taken to Firestone, where the vehicle was diagnosed with failed rear flexible brake hoses. The contact's wife was informed that the rear flexible brake hoses needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that two weeks later, while the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to move forward or backwards. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that two weeks later, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to steer in the intended direction. In addition, the electrical features were disabled and the engine seized. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V544000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

My motor failed me in my 2017 ford edge 2.0. Very bad misfire from the famous coolent problem caused by Fords decision to make a bad design with coolent ports between the cylinders, that as had my car bucking and was actually very dangerous on the highway i broke down on. Almost cause a accident. When this happen i lost brakes for a second. Car was clunking and bucking do to the motor not running probably with the misfire and motor filled with coolent.. I have 90k miles on this car. Ridiculous. There's no recall yet which is very unprofessional on ford end to make people pay for this fix that is uncontrollable and very pricey

I just bought this used ford edge for my high school daughter. I took it to two different mechanics. Both indicated misfiring happening which means need a new engine. Mechanics said this is widely known issue. Why can dealers sell these cars with a widely known defect. This will create undue financial hardship to me and my family. My stress and anxiety are terrible on this issue.

Component Failure: Engine - I am reporting a dangerous engine defect in my 2017 Ford Edge which involves the 2.0L EcoBoost I4 F DOHC 14v engine. My vehicle has experienced total engine failure due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders. This is a known design flaw documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346, yet no safety recall has been issued for the Edge model. This defect poses a significant safety risk as it can lead to sudden engine stalling, loss of power while driving, and potential engine fires due to overheating. My vehicle started having issues with coolant levels in December 2025, which led to believe that it was the water pump. This was the first indicator that coolant was leaking somewhere. The repair shop replaced the water pump along with the thermostat and heater hose. Later that week the vehicle started stalling and left my daughter stranded. It was able to be jumped and driven to a shop where the battery was replaced thinking that maybe that was the issue. Within 24 hours the engine started backfiring which left my daughter stranded again. The vehicle was towed to the shop and water pump was replaced again under the warranty but the vehicle just kept backfiring and wouldn't start. It was towed to a Ford dealership where they said that it may need a new engine. Ford knew of the coolant engine intrusion issue and pretended that they didn't know what caused the engine failure and the only solution is an $8k new engine. This has caused an impact and financial burden. My vehicle is currently inoperable. I am facing a repair estimate of $8,000 – $10,000 in addition to all the prior repairs leading up to this catastrophic engine failure . My daughter was left stranded twice and other owners are being left stranded as well with dangerous, failing vehicles because Ford has not transitioned this TSB into a formal recall or Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP), despite the clear risk of engine failure at highway speeds. 2017 Ford Edge started generating codes for misfires on Cylinder #2. The recommendation was to replace all spark plugs and ignition coils. This work was performed and the code was cleared. In a few days the same code re-appeared. I took our Edge to a Ford dealership in Clarksville TN. The diagnosis is that the engine suffers from coolant intrusion in cylinder #2. The dealership wants $10,000 to replace the long block. Since this is a known manufacturer defect by Ford Motor Company shouldn't we receive some financial assistance to have this engine replaced. The vehicle has 80000 miles on it. Any help is appreciated!

Check engine light came on, engine started "sputtering". No danger at time. Took to established repair center who notified us the engine had a common problem with this year/model Ford where the coolant leaks into the engine block. Total engine replacement is only option. We were told Ford knows about this but is doing nothing about it. Also told if we were to continue driving it it would likely cause catastrophic engine failure, possibly while driving. 143,000 miles. Ford should be held criminally responsible for the loss of the vehicle if no assistance is offered. Repair or monetary.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a 2017 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. My vehicle has experienced the well-documented coolant intrusion defect that allows engine coolant to leak into one or more cylinders. This defect has resulted in engine misfires, coolant loss without any visible external leak, and ultimately complete engine failure, leaving the vehicle inoperable. A Ford dealership previously diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that coolant was leaking into one of the engine’s cylinders. The recommended repair was replacement of the entire engine, at an estimated cost of several thousand dollars. This diagnosis was made after the vehicle began exhibiting symptoms consistent with internal coolant intrusion, including rough running and loss of coolant. The vehicle has since deteriorated to the point that it no longer runs. This is not an isolated incident. Numerous owners of 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine have reported identical failures. There is significant public documentation of this defect, including technical service bulletins, owner complaints, and ongoing litigation alleging that Ford knew of the defect. The issue appears to stem from the engine block design rather than normal wear and tear or poor maintenance. This defect presents a serious safety concern. An engine can begin misfiring or lose power unexpectedly while driving, increasing the risk of being stranded in traffic or involved in a collision. In many cases, owners receive little warning before the engine becomes unsafe or completely fails. The cost of repair is extremely high because the recommended solution is replacement of the entire engine rather than repair of a single component. I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this defect and determine whether a safety recall is warranted. Consumers should not be responsible for the cost of replacing an engine that fails due to an apparent manufacturing or design defect.

My 2017 Ford Edge SEL with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine has a diagnosed coolant leak and misfire/startup codes P0302 and P0316. The vehicle hesitates and rumbles during startup and sometimes feels like it may shut off. The diagnosis appears consistent with the known Ford 2.0L EcoBoost coolant intrusion/coolant-in-cylinder issue. I was told the engine may need replacement, estimated around $10,000. Ford opened case CXH-08391857 but advised there is no active recall or financial assistance because the vehicle is out of warranty. I am reporting this because an engine misfire/possible stall condition may create a safety concern.

Vehicle: 2017 Ford Edge Titanium, 2.0L EcoBoost, AWD Mileage at Incident: ~90,000 (mountain 2 lane canyon road steep cliffs and very little pull off space) Description of Problem: While driving uphill on a 2-lane mountain road, my vehicle displayed “Engine Coolant Over Temperature” (and related engine heat) warnings. The temperature gauge rose rapidly, engine power was severely limited (could not exceed ~40 mph even with full throttle), and pink coolant fluid was visibly boiling and gushing from the reservoir/overflow tank. I immediately pulled over safely. After cooling for 2–3 hours, the vehicle restarted and completed the climb with lighter driving, but the incident was dangerous due to reduced power on a winding mountain road with oncoming traffic. A check engine light with code P04DB (Crankcase Ventilation System Disconnected) is also present. Coolant pump, relays, fuses, and oil was checked and showed no milky contamination or issues at the time. Some white exhaust and smell was present at the time. This matches the well-known coolant intrusion defect in 2015–2018 Ford 2.0L EcoBoost engines (see TSB 19-2346), where coolant leaks internally into cylinders, causing overheating, misfires, and potential sudden engine failure. Mechanics initially found no issue on a cold check, which is common with this intermittent problem. Safety Risk: Sudden power loss, overheating, and “Engine Coolant Over Temperature” warnings on mountain roads or highways create a serious hazard of stranding, loss of control, or accident. This defect has affected thousands of similar Ford vehicles and should be investigated for a safety recall. I request NHTSA open or expand an investigation into this issue for the 2017 Ford Edge and similar models.

I have the 2.0 EcoBoost. I had my check engine light come on XXX. I went to AutoZone in [XXX] to have the code checked. They told me it was a cylinder 1 misfire. The code read as an ignition coil. I thought it was no big deal because of the mileage and thought it was time for coils and plugs. Friday June 12, 2026, I started my car to go to work and I turned on my defroster because it was foggy out. 15 minutes into my drive to work, I noticed I had no heat. I got to work, checked under my hood and noticed my coolant reservoir was empty. I got the approved coolant for my car and put a whole gallon into the reservoir and it filled it up between the min/max line. XXX, at the end of the day, I checked again and my reservoir was empty. It has been idling rough when starting either cold or warmed up. This coolant intrusion problem is a major safety issue because it can cause catastrophic engine failure and even engine fires. I bought it used and couldn’t afford the warranty but being a design defect, Ford should be held responsible for the remedy, not just issue an optional TSB and leave unsuspecting drivers buying a used car from a certified dealer with the risk of paying for another new car or engine replacement. Cylinder Coolant Intrusion I took my vehicle to Warren/ Sheldon auto repair shop in canton, MI They did a diagnostic test on it, they told me they found coolant in the engine, and I would need a brand new engine. If I would of not taken the vehicle to the auto shop, the vehicle may have caught on fire vector the condition it is in, because it would of overheated because of no coolant or was very low -due to a leak. A check engine light came on June 5th, 2026, and two days later I took it to the shop.

Contact owns a 2017 FORD EDGE. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle would hesitate and stutter with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and stops the heat would independently turned off and on in the vehicle. Contact also stated the coolant low warning light illuminated in the vehicle and coolant was added to vehicle and vehicle would work as intended for several months and then the failure would reoccur. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently taken into and independent mechanic for and oil change where she was informed of a coolant leak into the engine. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who confirmed by diagnostic code and inspection that there was a coolant leak and the engine needed to be replaced. Manufacturer was not notified of the failure. Proximate mileage failure stated by contact was 50,000 miles.

Engine has coolant leaking into the third cylinder. This explains why my vehichle runs rough, coolant level drops with no sign of leaks underneath the vehicle and white exhaust smoke. Apparently its a known issue with the 2.0 L Ecoboost engines and is addressed in a technical service bulletin (TSB). To correct coolant intrusion into the cylinders you have to replace the long block engine assembly. The issue started in Texas about a year ago and a code appeared for misfire in cylinder 3. Spark plugs and ignition coil was replaced only for the code to appear again the next week. Twice a month we would have to top off the coolant. It wasnt until about 2 weeks ago when smoke was coming out of the exhaust and was advised it is not safe to drive.

It was necessary to stop at the end of an on-ramp to an expressway. As I proceeded to enter the expressway, my 2017 Ford Edge started vibrating and as I accelerated to go onto the expressway, the car stalled. I was able to restart the car and it vibrated and stalled again as I accelerated to pull over on the shoulder of the road, which there was minimal area to pull off due to the lack of shoulder. Then, the check engine light came on. I could have been in a major accident if I was not able to get out of the flow of traffic quick enough. My mechanic told me that I have a head gasket cylinder leak which is a well known problem with the 2.0L Ford Ecoboost engine which causes the engine to stall. He said that he has seen this problem before and Ford recognizes the problem but is unwilling to do anything about it. He also said that probably a certain amount of people have to die or get injured before Ford will do anything about it. He also said Ford changed the cooling design after 2019 due to the number of problems they have had with the 2.0L engine head gasket. The first warning light that came on was after the engine stalled the second time.

Our 2017 Ford Edge Titanium had its engine check light go on at 60,788 miles on April 6, 2026. So we brought it into our local Ford dealership (where we purchased it new) the next day on April 7. We were told that diagnostics showed there was a coolant intrusion in one of the cylinders (2.0L Eco-Boost engine) and we would need to basically rebuild the engine (long block) for $9,900! This is very frustrating since we bought an extended warranty at the time of purchase and had our car regularly brought in for maintenance. We did everything expected as an owner. No surprise, our extended warranty was good up 60,000. Our Edge was at the dealership for 5 weeks. I don't think they cared at all that we had to payout $9,000. I've read so many posts on various sites with people experiencing the same problem and cost out of pocket to get their Fords repaired. it's apparent Ford had some major manufacturing issues on their engine blocks that cause coolant to leak into the cylinders. So, why is there no Recall or Class Action?
