2014 Ford F-250 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

2014 ford f250 super duty 6.7 diesel. Coming down mountain in Arizona (bumblebee pass) hit small bump. Truck began violently shaking in the “death wobble mode”. Later I was just driving on the freeway and hit a small bump at 70 mph (75 mph zone), again violent shaking that did not stop until I was driving 50 mph. Since I’m leaving on cross country trip soon, I opted to take vehicle to mechanic. It is there now. This is because there is no recall on 2014 ford for this issue and I don’t have weeks available to fight with ford. have learned today that this is very common across the county and has been reported to ford motor company but the company is denying their liability to fix this very dangerous issue! My vehicle symptoms are exactly what there have been numerous complaints about. I will be sending the bill to ford.

Death wobble at speeds greater than 46 mph. I have to come to a complete stop to make it stop. I almost got rear ended by a semi before I could get off the interstate on the shoulder. My vehicle is a 2014 but I have experienced this several times since I bought it new. Took it to my local ford dealer to see if they can do anything to fix it. It’s really dangerous when it happens on a busy interstate. The front end sounds like it’s coming apart and steering is impossible when it happens.

December 24th at approximately 1100 hr. Driving normally on the Garden State Parkway Southbound approaching exit 98. The vehicle instantaneously began to shake out of control. I was able to keep the Vehicle in the travel lane and was able to pull over to the shoulder. I Vehicle pulled over to see if I was ok and explained the truck was front tires shaking violently. I did a pulmonary check under the vehicle any everything looked in order. I followed up with a local Mechanic who informed me that this was a common issue with these vehicles that was called the "Ford Death Wobble" and suggested that i take it to a specialist who deals with the suspension. I followed up with R&H Spring and Truck repair, 4806 W Hurley Pond Rd, Wall Township, NJ 07719. R&H is familiar with the issue and the Vehicle is currently scheduled to be diagnosed. The recommendation is to change most of the front end because no one issues causes this to happen. The vehicle has less that 44, 000 miles on it and clearly a design issue. I have been In law enforcement for 30 years and have never experienced anything like this. I have been trained in all types of advanced driving course throughout those years. Fortunately I was driving at the time rather a less experienced driver. I am not requesting anything other than the issue be addressed to protect the public. Unfortunately if not addressed loss of life will occur. Respectfully, [XXX] I am not requsting anything other than that INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I kept smelling a burnt plastic smell. Eventually my driver side rear door did not lock. Upon inspection of the wiring the wire harness from the door to the truck showed the wires on the truck side had burned/melted the sheathing off the wires and leaving them exposed and touching.

LT265/70R17, I received a recall notice from Amazon where I purchased a set of 4 tires. I only use these tires for winter driving and the notice states I should remove them immediately. They do not say for me to purchase new ones at the same time or if I will be reimbursed for any (all) cost. I still have around 70% of wear on them and am in the mid-winter season of McCall ID. I can't see any fault at this time and will keep trying to contact Prinx Chengshan Tire North America, INC. Notice: NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 24T014000.

I was Getting on I-95 N from Benson, NC with speed limit of 70mph. While I was still accelerating and just merged in traffic, going about 65-70mph, my 2014 F250 started doing the death wobble. The section of highway I was on has no shoulder or anywhere to pull off because they are doing construction on the shoulder and have concrete blocks maybe 6inches past the line. So I had no choice but to put on my brakes hard and slow down until the shaking stopped, which was bout 15-20mph. I’m very lucky I wasn’t rear ended or in an accident because of the death wobble. My 12 week old baby girl was also with me in the truck at the time

BRAKES GET STUCK AND ONE SIDE OF BRAKES ARE NOT BRAKING AS SRONGLY AS OTHER SIDE. BRAKES HAVE GOTTEN STUCK WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET AND ON HIGHWAY.

NHTSA ID 11288460 · filed Dec 11, 2019

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP AND SOMETHING FLY UP AND HIT THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY VEHICLE. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. THIS CAUSED ME TO THEN ROLL UNCONTROLLABLY THROUGH A RED LIGHT BARELY MISSING AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. I WAS THEN ABLE TO CHANGE LANES AND ROLL TO A STOP IN A NEARBY PARKING LOT. WHEN I CAME TO A SLOW ENOUGH SPEED I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE TO NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THE PASSENGER FROM WHEEL HAD FLUID POURING OUT INSIDE THE BRAKE AND INNER WHEEL AREAS. I RETURNED TO VEHICLE AND ONLY THEN DID ANY WARNING LIGHTS COME ON INCLUDE THE CHECK BRAKE AND HILL CONTROL WARNINGS. NEVER BEFORE HAD ANY WARNINGS BEEN GIVEN. AFTER CALLING THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THE FACTORY WOULD DO SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE CALIPERS/PISTON HAD FAILED. THE FRONT CALIPERS, ROTORS, PADS MUST ALL BE REPLACED AS THE CALIPERS THEMSELVES FAILED, THE PISTONS GROUND DEEP GOUGES INTO THE ROTOR DAMAGING IT AND THE PADS WERE DESTROYED AS WELL.FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE FRONT AND REAR CALIPERS ON ALL 2013 AND 2014 F250/350 VEHICLES WITH 6.7L DIESEL. NHTSA# 10054344. DUE TO THIS BEING A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE BY THE MANUFACTURER I AM ASKING FOR A RECALL ON ALL OF THESE VEHICLES TO INCLUDE MINE AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE EXPENSES. NO VEHICLE THAT TOW 12K-15K POUNDS SHOULD EXPERIENCE IMMEDIATE CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE, WITHOUT WARNING ON THIS NEW OF A VEHICLE.

From owner reports, verbatim

ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, I WAS TRAVELLING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. A FORD F-250 WAS IN THE LANE TO MY RIGHT. AS MY LANE WAS PICKING UP SPEED, HIS LANE WAS SLOWING DOWN. SUDDENLY, HE CHANGED LANES RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING ME TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES, NARROWLY AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. ALTHOUGH HE DID HAVE HIS TURN SIGNAL ON, I DID NOT SEE IT, DUE TO IT BEING THE SAME COLOR AS HIS ON/OFF BRAKE LIGHTS. TO ADD ON TO THAT, HE HAD HIS TAILLIGHTS ON, MAKING HIS TURN SIGNAL INDISTINGUISHABLE FROM HIS RUNNING LIGHTS IN BROAD DAYLIGHT. AFTER RESEARCHING, I CONCLUDED I WOULD HAVE BEEN AT FAULT IF I HAD HIT HIS TRUCK, EVEN THOUGH HE DANGEROUSLY SWITCHED LANES WITH A BARELY VISIBLE TURN SIGNAL. I ASSUME THE REASON I DID NOT ANTICIPATE HIS MANEUVER IS BECAUSE MY BRAIN RECOGNIZED THE DIM TURN SIGNAL AS THE DRIVER TAPPING ON HIS BRAKES (AS ONE OFTEN DOES IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC). IT SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL FOR CAR MANUFACTURES TO PIGGY BACK TURN SIGNALS ONTO BRAKE LIGHTS. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN A CAR (THIS F-250 FOR EXAMPLE) USES A SINGLE BULB FOR THREE PURPOSES (BRAKE/TURN/TAIL LAMP), IT CREATES CONFUSION THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT OR EVEN DEATH. ORANGE/YELLOW/AMBER TURN SIGNALS REDUCE THE TIME FOR THE BRAIN TO REALIZE THIS CAR IS INTENDING TO TURN. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, EVEN A FRACTION OF A SECOND COULD MEAN AVOIDING A DEADLY ACCIDENT. AFTER LOOKING INTO THIS, I REALIZED MY OWN CAR HAS THE SAME SETUP! (2013 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN). THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I HAVE HAD MANY INSTANCES OF CONFUSION OVER THIS, BUT THIS CLOSE CALL BROUGHT ME TO SAY SOMETHING OVER THIS LACK OF EFFORT TO PROTECT AMERICAN DRIVERS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED PROPERLY, AS IT IS A SIMPLE REGULATION THAT COULD HELP SAVE LIVES. I FOUND OUT THAT AMERICAN/CANADA ARE THE ONLY COUNTRIES THAT DO NOT MANDATE AMBER TURN SIGNALS. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO PROTECT AMERICAN DRIVERS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS.
