2016 Ford F-350 Sd Electrical Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the electrical system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Electrical reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The junk cab mounts deteriorate so fast the cab settles and crushes the wiring harness causing many electrical issues. There are many forums that talk about bad cab mounts and what components to use to repair them, but in my opinion this is a Ford issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-350. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the A/C unit turned off without being disengaged. The tire pressure warning light flashed on the instrument panel. Additionally, the indicator lights were blinking quickly, and trailer turn light failed to illuminate properly and there was a delay when the trailer was connected. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brain control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

The control arm for the turnsignals and wiper system fails resulting in the delay wipers constantly running. This is both an annoyance to driving as well as an obstruction to your field of vision. There also a risk of damage to the windshield as well. This is a very, very common part failure with Ford Trucks.

There is an "advanced" recall on the clockspring contamination on my vehicle. The local ford dealership is stating that they do not have access to the parts to fix this issue, as it's an advanced warning. The issue is that the truck is having the malfunction. The buttons on the steering wheel do not work, which is now causing me to not be able to see the display b/c it's blocked by a warning, the airbag light is on which is an indication that it does not work. Ford won't look at it without charging $200 for diagnostics and then I will be responsible for paying for the repairs, even if it has to do with the recall. They aren't even sure if the truck can be repaired because they don't have the parts for the repair?????? This is a safety issue, and is basically forcing me to find another vehicle to drive since the airbags are showing they won't work. I also can't use the handsfree phone options since the buttons don't work on the steering wheel. Need to know when the parts are going to actually be available.

vehicle was taken to Seaside Auto Repair, Satellite Beach FL to be looked at for problems it was having on the 24th of March. On 3/31/22 the using federal agency rec'd call to pick up vehicle at the shop as they could not figure out the problem and how to fix it. The agency picked up vehicle from shop. Agency started vehicle and drove to the Pest Mgmt Shop at Patrick AFB, As the vehicle crossed the main gate, the driver heard a strange noise coming from the driver side of the hood near the side mirror, sound got faster. As he approached Anvil Ave, all power to the vehicle went down leaving him with only brake and steering control. At the same time the driver saw flames spew from the driver side panel of the hood. He pulled over, exited vehicle and contacted base fire dept.

A main computer communication cable failed (rubbed through) due to rubbing due from the use of the parking brake. I noticed all my gauges were not working. I happened to be very close to the Ford dealer, so I pulled in the lot and turned the truck off to see if the issue would reset. Upon trying to start the truck, everything was dead. I got the service manager and left the truck. When he called me to tell me what he found, I immediately recall reading about this same issue several times on the Ford Truck Enthusiast web site, and the fix was simply moving the communication cable so it doesn’t rub.

REFERENCED FORD HAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOY WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A HEATED GARAGE OVERNIGHT. THERE WAS NO KEY IN THE IGNITION. WE DO NOT HAVE A TIME FRAME FOR HOW LONG IT WAS PARKED BEFORE DEPLOYMENT. AFTER THIS DEPLOYMENT FOUND THAT THE TRUCK NO LONGER HAD POWER TO START THE VEHICLE OR ANY DASHBOARD INDICATORS/GAUGES WORKING. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON/OFF RANDOMLY TILL BATTERY IS COMPLETELY DEAD WHILE PARKED AND SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE UP TO 6 MONTHS TO REPAIR. I DECIDED TO SEE IF I WAS ABLE TO TRACK DOWN THE PROBLEM MYSELF. WHILE WORKING ON THE TRUCK MY DOG HAPPENED TO JUMP INTO THE TRUCK AND ALL THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. I TOLD HIM TO GET OUT AND AS HE WAS GETTING DOWN HE MADE CONTACT WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FOOT WELL COVER AND ALL THE LIGHTS WENT BACK OUT. UPON REMOVING THE FOOT WELL COVER I IMMEDIATELY FOUND BROKEN AND CHARRED WIRING TO INCLUDE THE AIRBAG WIRES BEING COMPROMISED. THE AREA OF CONCERN IS WHERE THE FOOT WELL COVER AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE KICK WELL PANEL COME TOGETHER JUST BELOW AND TO THE LEFT OF THE PARKING BRAKE. THEY USE THE OPEN SPACE BELOW THE FOOT WELL COVER TO RUN THE WIRES TO VARIOUS DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE VEHICLE. SPEAKING WITH KENDALL FORD DEALERSHIP IN WASILLA ALASKA, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE WIRE BEING CHAFFED/BROKEN AND CHARRED WAS A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR PART AND THAT FORD WOULD NOT REPAIR IT OR REPLACE THE AIRBAG. REALLY FELT LIKE THEY DID NOT WANT TO EVEN TALK TO ME.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
