What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1994 Ford F Super Duty, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

IN BOTH CASES THE MOTORHOME LOST ITS ABILITY TO STOP THIS MOTORHOME. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND AVOID SERIOUS PROBLEMS. AFTER THE COMPONENTS COOLED DOWN THE SYSTEM WENT BACK TO WORKING. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED AND NO PROBLEMS WERE DISCOVERED. I HAVE TALKED TO FORD AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY HELP.*AK
THE FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT CALIPERS DO NOT RELEASE AS NECESSARY TO STOP VEHICLE. THE BRAKE FLUID TEMPERATURE REACHES AN EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURE WHICH IS CAUSING THE CALIPERS TO NOT RELEASE. THESE BRAKES HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY REBUILT WITH NEW PARTS AND TAKEN APART AGAIN TO RE-LUBRICATE IN HOPES OF A SUCCESSFUL REPAIR. DOCUMENTATION AVAILABLE. THERMOPANE WINDOW SEALS HAVE BECOME DEFECTIVE AS THEY LEAK (CONDENSATION FORMS BETWEEN PANES OF GLASS) COMPANY (FLEETWOOD CORP.) REFUSED REPLACEMENT BASED ON SHAPE OF THE CORNERS OF THE GLASS. 7 OUT OF 9 WINDOWS ARE AFFECTED INCLUDING DRIVER'S WINDOW WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO OPERATE VEHICLE/ THE REMAINING WINDOWS ARE THROUGOUT THE COACH (EXCEPT FOR WINDSHIELD). A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. DEALER AGREED THEY NEEDED REPLACING, FLEETWOOD DECLINED.*AK

WHILE DRIVING DURING HOT SUMMER MONTHS THE VEHICLE COULD BE MOVING 50-60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED WOULD SUDDENLY DROP TO ABOUT 40 MPH THEN BACK TO 60 MPH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND CHANGED THE OIL AND FILTER EVERY YEAR BUT FAILURE STILL OCCURRED. *AK *CB *NLM

ALL F -SUPERDUTYS WITH THE 7.3L DIESEL MOTORS FRONT END SHAKING VIOLENTLY THE FRONT WHEELS ON THESE VEHICLES START SHAKING VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH, WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THIS IS GOING ON IT GETS WORSE AND EVENTUALLY WILL RESULT IN A CRASH. ALL FORD SUPERDUTYS THAT I HAVE DRIVEN DO THIS AT SPEEDS OF 40-70 MPH THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS TO STOP SHAKING IS TO COME ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN START AGAIN. *AK
TRAVELING NORTH ON I-5, SOUTH OF ORLAND, THE ROAD TURNED ROUGH AND I HIT A DEPRESSION (NOT A CHUCK-HOLE) WITH THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE FRONT-END SHIMMY, A VERY VIOLENT ACTION, AND I HAD TO GRAB THE WHEEL WITH BOTH HANDS TO PREVENT IT FROM MOVING RAPIDLY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE ACTION FELT LIKE A MAJOR SUSPENSION COMPONENT HAD FAILED. OR, LIKE A TIRE WAS COMING LOOSE OR ABOUT TO BE FORCED FROM THE STEEL WHEEL. THE COACH WAS SHAKING WILDELY, AND I FELT THAT I HAD NO CONTROL. THIS ACTION CONTINUED UNTIL THE COACH CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I IMMEDIATELY INSPECTED THE FRONT-END AND LUG NUTS, THEN LEFT THE FREEWAY. THE NEXT DAY, I HAD THE SUSPENSION CHECKED AT A TRUCK STOP IN CORNING, CA. THE ORIGINAL STABILIZER SEEMED TO HAVE CONSIDERABLE RESISTANCE, BUT WAS REPLACED. THE MECHANIC FOUND EVIDENCE THAT THE LARGE STABILIZER BAR HAD RECENTLY MOVED. THIS SHIMMY ACTION FELT LIKE IT WAS SELF-PERPETUATING -- LIKE THE TIRE WAS MOVING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAT THE STEERING PUMP WAS DEMANDING. *AK
