1993 Ford Ranger Body & structure Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the body or structure system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Body & structure reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

HOW CAN THE FRAME OF MY TRUCK RUST OUT FASTER THAN THE BED OR CAB. THE CAB MOUNTS ARE GONE. THE SHACKLES OF THE LEAF SPRINGS ARE PAPER THIN AND READY TO COLLAPSE. WHEN I DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD AND HIT A BUMP IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CAB IS GOING FALL TO THE GROUND. I AM AFRAID ONE OF THESE DAYS , I'LL GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE ENTIRE CAB IS GOING TO FLY OFF THE TRUCK. THE MOTOR HAS OUTLASTED THE FRAME. MAKE LAUGH.

THE FRAME HAS RUSTED UNTIL THE TRUCK IS NO LONGER DRIVABLE. IT IS FOUR WHEEL DRIVE AND I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE REAR SPRING SHACKLES WHEN THEY RUSTED OUT IN 2006. I BOLTED A PIECE OF ANGLE TO THE TRANSMISSION SUPPORT TO REPAIR IT AFTER IT RUSTED INTO AND DROPPED THE TRANSMISSIOM AND TWISTED THE DRIVE SHAFT INTO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD I TOOK IT UP ON 2/9/2012 TO GET A NEW EXHAUST PUT ON IT AND AND GOT A CALL FROM THE SERVICE GARAGE TO COME LOOK AT THE UNDER CARRAIGE OF THE TRUCK. THE BED HAS A RUSTED OUT SUPPORT, THE TRANSMISSION SUPPORT CROSSMEMBER IS RUSTED INTO ON THE OTHER SIDE FROM WHERE I REPAIRED IT BEFORE AND THE FRONT SUPPORT CROSSMEMBER UNDER THE RADIATOR IS RUSTED OUT. THE SUPPORT FOR THE SPARE TIRE RUSTER OUT YEARS AGO. THE ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN WORK GREAT BUT THE TRUCK IS SCRAP NOW BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF THE FRAME AND BODY SUPPORTS. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
