2013 Ford Redundant C-Max Hybrid Driver assistance Problems
Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid. The contact stated that while in reverse, the rearview camera failed to display a rearview image, potentially compromising the back over prevention system. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The rearview camera warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V695000 (Back Over Prevention), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 230,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD C-MAX HYBRID. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE BATTERY SAVER WARNING INDICATOR TURNED OFF AND THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE DISPLAYED ACROSS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL: "911 ASSIST IS DISABLED, CONTACT DEALER". IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS, THE SHIFTER INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, BUT THE MOTOR DID NOT INDICATE THAT IT WAS READY TO DRIVE UNTIL APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE LATER. THE CONTACT PLACED THE SHIFTER INTO REVERSE AND ATTEMPTED TO REVERSE, BUT A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN THE DRIVE GEAR AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BEYOND 35 MPH. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO BOB MOORE FORD (8948 S I-35 SERVICE RD, OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA 73159) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INNER CELL OF THE BATTERY WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 73,000.

AT FIRST THE CMAC WOULD NOT START FOLLOWED BY ALL THE ELECTRICITY IN THE GOES DEAD (HORNY LIGHTS RADIO NOW HAVE EVERYTHING). I WAS THEN DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE CAR SLOWED DOWN BY ITSELF WHILE I WAS PRESSING THE GAS TO ABOUT 5 MPH AND I COULD NOT GO ABOVE THAT. THE SLOWDOWN WAS IMMEDIATE LIKE THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED IN THE LOWER GEAR. THE DEALER SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT BUT THEY SAW THE 12VOLT BATTERY ADD A BAD CELL AND SO THEY BELIEVING THAT THAT'S WHAT COULD'VE CAUSED ALL THE PROBLEMS.I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID TO LET THE DEALER HANDLE IT. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE CAR COMING TO ALMOST A FULL STOP IN THE MITTS OF HIGH-SPEED ESPECIALLY WITH NO PRIOR WARNING OR INDICATIONS.
