2022 Forest River Rockwood Owner Complaints

The contact owns a 2022 Forest River Rockwood Trailer. The contact stated that while attempting to extend the slide-out, the slide-out became stuck and became inoperable. The RV was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a missing Z-bracket. The contact stated that the column became bent due to the missing Z-bracket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I am reporting a safety defect on a 2022 Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite travel trailer, model 2516S, This RV is equipped with Dexter axle #1 and #9 from a total batch of #288 axles that Forest River recalled on July 27, 2022 under NHTSA recall 22V-558. The RV was purchased on July 15, 2022, twelve days before the recall. Of the 244 recalled RVs with those axles, only the single-axle tent campers were recalled because the defect was visually obvious on those units. On tandem-axle RVs such as this one, the incorrect installation was not visually apparent. This travel trailer was manufactured with brake axle defects and buyers of these units were never contacted. It does not take an engineering analysis to conclude that if axle #1 and #9 from this batch are defective and 244 RVs were recalled, then all 288 axles should have been inspected and included in the recall. The brakes are significantly ineffective in forward motion, causing complete brake failure under normal braking. This is an active safety hazard. There is serious concern that the remaining 44 axles from this batch were placed on tandem-axle RVs and released into commerce without notification, despite the fact that I have not changed my phone number, address, or email since purchasing this trailer. This is a one-owner, low-mileage unit that has never been serviced or altered. Attempts to resolve this issue through Forest River representative dealerships, Dexter Axles, and Forest River have been ongoing for three months with no resolution. No repairs have been made. The trailer is currently being towed over 1,300 miles to Montana for work with defective brakes. Multiple photos have been attached clearly showing the incorrect brake installation. Please investigate this latent manufacturing defect and consider expanding the recall to include these excluded axles.

Spare tire attached by cable underneath camper came loose and was bouncing around on road while still attached to spare tire cable. I had tightened up the spare tire cable prior to our 95 mile trip home, but the cable unwound while traveling until the spare tire started bouncing on road. Fortunately we heard the noise before too much damage was done and we were fortunate the tire didn't come off and become a road hazard to anyone following us. I see on multiple social media postings where this is a known problem with other Geo Pro campers and should be fixed by Forest River through a recall due to the risk of the issue.

There was a fire that was created with the factory installed wiring that initiated at the shore power connection where one of the 50 amp wires was loose, heated up, melted the surrounding area and started a fire.

The transmission failed on our 2019 Subaru Touring Ascent. Also, the Bluetooth brake system for pulling our trailer was losing electrical contact as it wobbled on and off. We tried to remedy this blue tooth situation before our last journey with the Camping World dealership who sold us the trailer, but it still was not connecting properly . We were put at risk and others were put at risk because the blue tooth wireless brakes were not functioning correctly. The trailer swaying into a traffic lane also put us and others at risk. The Subaru Ascent can not tow this 2022 GeoPro trailer safely. We were told by various salesmen that it could. The service manager at the Subaru dealer confirmed that this trailer is indeed too heavy for the 2019 Ascent touring model. There is excess forward weight on the drivers side causing the trailer to pull to the left due to the extra weight of the side out and the 60 gallon water tank even when using a:sway bar. We had no warning lights prior to the failure.

There is an active recall on this vehicle: NHTSA: 22V556, Canadian: 2022-368 22V556, 2022-368 - LCI AWNINGS 20E-055 It was inspected and I was told there is nothing wrong with it, now a month later it is failing and no one wants to help me! I have uploaded pictures of the failing awning! How do these companies get away with this? If it is a known defect why are they not forced to replace the defective item BEFORE it fails? This situation is absurd and needs to be better handled and the manufacturer forced to replace known defective items!

The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. The contact stated the issue was resolved months ago.

Nothing happened. My complaint is the inactivity and not resolving recall #22V243 on a propane connector on my RV that can leak and cause an explosion. I received the notice 4 months ago and I'm told there are no parts available when Forest river is pumping out new trailers every hour. This is ridiculous!

The contact owns a 2022 Forest River Rockwood Trailer. The contact stated that upon purchase of the trailer; several, exposed electrical wires were left hanging from underneath the trailer. The contact also stated that the electrical winch that raised the canopy would remain active. The contact expressed concern that if the winch were to be hit from the outside the trailer, severe damage could be caused to the trailer. The manufacturer had been notified about the failure but had offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 0.

I am a new owner of a Forrest River Rockwood Extreme Sports Package Pop-up single axel RV camper trailer. Purchase date was 05/27/2022. Incident occurred on June 23rd 2022. (27th day of ownership) During this trailers very first trip out my husband, our kids and I had a catastrophic Lug Stud/Lug Nut failure on the driver side tire which caused the trailer to lose the entire wheel and tire and caused so much damage that I fear my new trailer is going to become totaled out once an insurance adjuster comes to inspect it. Without warning, this incident caused the trailer to bounce and then slam on the highway and then lose control. The sheer forces involved caused the slide out dinette to become unlocked and spill out all over the side of the highway, destroying the plywood structure of the trailers livable space on the drivers side which included the furnace, propane lines, electrical lines, and even the cable system which is needed to fully raise the pop up. While talking to the Highway DPS and the tow truck driver, they both were in agreement that either the Dealership or the Manufacturer over tightened the lug nuts. This is because 3 of the 5 lug studs were completely sheered off, so much so that they were flush with the mating surface of the hub. After looking at the rim of the wheel that was involved it looks possible that the remaining 2 lug nuts may have shattered or failed in some way from the forces that were placed on them from not having those other lug studs to distribute the weight. The trailer was towed to the dealership, where it was purchased from, and they looked at it and were heard speaking to each other that the axle looks to be bent and that the damages look to be a total loss. The dealership person who I am working with does not want to admit that it is a defect and wont let my husband and I get our belongings out of the trailer until an insurance adjustor/inspector comes to look at the trailer and the damages.
