The defect: FATIGUE CRACKS DEVELOP IN THE FRONT AXLE KNUCKLE SUPPPORT ON HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLES THAT CAN CAUSE KNUCKLE FAILURE.
The risk: KNUCKLE FAILURE CAN RESULT IN POSSIBLE WHEEL ASSEMBLY SEPARATION AND A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
The remedy: REPLACE THE FRONT AXLE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLIES WITH A REDESIGNED KNUCKLE THAT HAS A RADIUS IN THE AREA WHERE CRACKS HAVE BEEN FOUND.

The defect: MALFORMED STEERING WHEEL CENTER SECTION COULD RESULT IN A FRACTURE OF THE UPPER HUB CASTING. THIS MAY LEAD TO SEPARATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL FROM THE STEERING COLUMN MOUNTING HUB.
The risk: FRACTURED UPPER HUB CASTING COULD RESULT IN LOSS OFSTEERING CONTROL WITHOUT WARNING AND AN ACCIDENT.
The remedy: REMOVE AND REPLACE THE UPPER HUB CASTING AND INSTALL A HUB PLATE.

NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
