Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2000 GMC C/K Pickup, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

AT 50,547 MILES ON 6/23/2008, MY 2000 SIERRA DEVELOPED A BRAKE LINE RUPTURE IN A REAR BRAKE LINE AND I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN DECREASED BRAKING. NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURY OCCURRED. AT ABOUT 56,000 MILES ON 4/5/2010 AT LEAST ONE LINE TO THE FRONT BRAKES BLEW OUT AND WE STOPPED 3 FEET FROM A BUSINESS FRONT WINDOW. NO CONTACT OR INJURIES OCCURRED. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT DON'S AUTO ALIGNMENT, INC., 2611 EATON RAPIDS RD., LANSING MI, 48911. PHONE NUMBER 517-393-0372. FIRST INVOICE 21200 FOR $215.19. NEXT INVOICE WILL BE ABOUT $800 SINCE HAVE CHOSEN TO REPLACE ALL LINES OUT OF FEAR FOR OTHERS FAILING. MY MECHANIC CLAIMS HE IS USING HIGHER RATED REPLACEMENT PART THAN ORIGINAL PARTS. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC 1500 SUPER CAB. THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE PROBLEM PROBLEMS A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. ON 10-13-05 IT STARTED GETTING REAL BAD. WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP THE PEDAL PULSATED, AND THEN GOT VERY HARD, AND WOULD NOT MOVE. THIS HAPPENS ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS, AND WHEN COMING TO A STOP. ON 10-13-05 GOODYEAR REPLACED BOTH REAR ROTORS AND PUT NEW BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR. THE DEALER PULLED UP RECALL 00V0550000 AND TOLD THE CONTACT THAT IF THE RECALL HAD NHTSA ON IT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. IN ADDITION, TOLD HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN, AND THAT IF THE RECALL DID NOT HAVE GM ON IT HE COULD NOT FIX IT UNDER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT HAS NOT YET SPOKEN TO THE MANUFACTURER.*AK

Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
COLD WEATHER STALLING WHILE TURNING. WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP. IS BELOW TEN DEGREES, THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STOPS WHILE EXECUTING A LOW SPEED HARD RIGHT OR LEFT TURN (SUCH AS ENTERING A DRIVEWAY FROM THE ROADWAY). THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE-ONCE IN DEC, 2000 AND MOST RECENTLY IN JAN, 2003 (THE ONLY TIMES THE TEMP HAS BEEN BELOW TEN DEGREES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS NEW). NO MIL LAMPS ILLUMINATE NOR DO THE GAUGES INDICATE A PROBLEM BEFORE OR AFTER THE INCIDENT. FUEL TANK WAS HALF FULL DURING THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
FUEL GAUGE OFTEN READS "EMPTY" WHEN TANK IS COMPLETELY FULL OR AT SOME POSITION MIDWAY BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY. I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING FOR SURE WHAT THE ACTUAL LEVEL OF FUEL IS BECAUSE THE GAGE JUMPS OVER THE FULL RANGE OF POSITIONS WHILE DRIVING. OTHER FRIENDS TELL ME THEY EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL GAUGE.*AK

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
GMC PICK UP TRUCK WINDOW LIFT SYSTEM FAILURE. THE CABLES ON BOTH WINDOW HAVE BROKEN ON MY TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS A 2000 WITH 50,000 MILES ON IT. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN THAT SOON. THE COST TO FIX THIS IS JUST UNDER $300.00 PER DOOR. I HAVE A GM CAR WITH 231000 MILES ON IT AND THE POWER WINDOWS STILL WORK IT IS A 1994. *JB
