What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 GMC C/K Suburban (gmc), grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.

BRAKE FAILURE- METALLIC BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND RELEASED FLUID UNDER PRESSURE CAUSING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. *TR
BRAKE LINE (BETWEEN FRONT CALIPER AND ABS BLOCK) RUPTURED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPROX. 35 MPH. TOTAL SYSTEM FAILURE WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS OR PEDAL SOFTNESS PRIOR TO PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. I DID MANAGE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PULLING OFF OF THE ROAD INTO SOFTER SOIL. I NEARLY STRUCK SEVERAL VEHICLES AND HAD TO DRIVE OFF OF THE ROADWAY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THIS VEHICLE IS USED EXTENSIVELY BY MY SON. IF THIS FAILURE HAD OCCURRED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. HE HAD JUST RETURNED FROM DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE ON A SKI TRIP THE PREVIOUS WEEKEND. ALL BRAKE LINES IN VEHICLE SHOW HEAVY CORROSION AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

FIRE HAZARD ON MY 99 GMC SUBURBAN K1500 FROM METAL FUEL LINE FAILURE WITH LEAKING FUEL WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE DANGER IS FROM MORE RUSTED OUT LINES SIMILAR TO THE METAL BRAKE LINE FAILURE I HAD IN THE PAST ON THIS TRUCK AND HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM. THE TRUCK WAS ASSEMBLED IN MEXICO WITH INFERIOR OR CHEAP PARTS THAT RUST PREMATURELY. *TR
ENGINE STOPPED DURING ACCELERATION ONTO HIGHWAY. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. AS THEY MAKE A RELOCATION KIT FOR THE MODULE, I ASSUME THIS IS A KNOW DEFECT. IN A. CURVE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. *TR
