What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2000 GMC Passenger Vehicle, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE 2000. TOOK VEHICLE FOR RECALLED MFS IN DECEMBER 2002 RECALL #01V-364. AT THAT TIME THE SWITCH HAD FAILED. I ASSUMED THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE NEEDS A NEW MFS, DEALER CLAIMS THAT MFS WAS NOT THE RECALLED PART. DEALER CLAIMS THE HAZARD SWITCH IS THE RECALL PART AND THAT THIS TIME THE HAZARD SWITCH IS WORKING PROPERLY. THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE EXACT SAME AS THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED. THE REMEDY FOR THE FIRST RECALL CALLED FOR A TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE MFS THAT FAILED AND GM WAS WORKING ON A REPAIR KIT FOR THE VEHICLES THAT HAD NOT FAILED. I WILL RETAIN OLD SWITCH AFTER THE SECOND REPLACEMENT. STILL WAITING FOR RESPONSE FROM ZONE MANAGER OF G.M. *JB

THE SPARE TIRE & SPARE TIRE BRACKET BROKE LOOSE FROM MY TRUCK & FELL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY. I NEVER SAW IT HAPPEN BUT IT HAD NEVER BEEN USED & COULD NOT HAVE BEEN REMOVED BY OTHER MEANS IN MY OPINION. *AK

AIRBAG LIGHT IN DASH BOARD INDICATES PROBLEM WITH SYSTEM. DEALER TELLS US THAT THE "SWITCH" IN SEATBELT IS DEFECTIVE. SWITH INDICATES THAT SEATBELT IS IN USE AND PERMITS AIRBAG TO GO OFF DURING COLLISION. FAULTY SWITH MEANS AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY. CAR HAS ABOUT 55,000 MILES ON IT. DEALER QUOTES $237 TO REPAIR.
LAST MARCH I RAN INTO A CONCRETE PILLAR FOR A LIGHT IN A PARKING LOT. THE IMPACT WAS CENTER OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH GMC BECAUSE THE AIR BAG DID NOT ACTIVATE NOR DID THE SEAT BELT HOLD ME. THEY CHECKED THE DATA ON COMPUTER CHIP AND MY SPEED WAS ABOUT 15MPH. LATER A RECALL WAS ISSUE ON POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH AIR BAG ACTIVATION. THEY SAID MY TRUCK DID NOT SHOW AN ERROR CODE TO SHOW IT MADE THE AIR BAG NOT ACTIVATE. I GOT THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF THOUGH. IS THERE ANY LEGAL RECOURSE ON THIS? I JUST WANTED MEDICAL BILLS PAID. TS

TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE SUN SHELL FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION SHOP SAID, THAT THEY ARE DOING 5-6 LATE MODEL GM VEHILCES A WEEK WITH THIS SAME FAILURE. OK, SO GM HAS ISSUED A PARTS BULLETIN UPDATE, SO WHAT. THE COST OF REPAIR IS NOT COMING OUT OF THEIR POCKETS. I THINK THAT MORE OF US NEED TO COMPLAIN AND MAYBE SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN. *LA

ENGINE KNOCK IN COLD START(IT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE TRUCK), THE DEALER SAYS IT'S CARBON BUILD UP,BUT I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT CARBON BUILD UP IS PROBABLY NOT THE CAUSE. THE CUASE IS MORE LIKELY TO BE A PISTON SLAP,BECAUSE WHEN THEY DESIGNED THIS ENGINE THEY MADE THE PISTON SKIRTS TOO SHORT CREATING A GAP BETWEEN THE CYLINDER WALL AND THE PISTON, CAUSING THE PISTON TO RATTLE INSIDE THE CYLINDER WALL WHEN YOU FIRST START THE ENGINE,NOW BECAUSE THE PISTONS ARE MADE OUT OF ALUMINUM THIS MATERIAL EXPANDS WITH HEAT AND CONTRACTS WITH THE COLD,SO WHEN YOU START THE ENGINE YOU CAN HEAR THE KNOCK,BUT AS SOON AS THE ENGINE HEATS UP THE ALUMINUM PISTON EXPANDS AND SEALS THE GAP AND THAT IS WHAT STOPS THE KNOCK. THE DEALER HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN WHERE IT SAYS THAT IT IS A COLD START KNOCK DUE TO CARBON THAT HAS FORMED ON THE PISTON, AND THAT THE KNOCK STARTS IN THE FIRST 12,000-15,000 MI AND THAT IT IS NOT DETREMENTAL TO THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THIS IS MY SECOND ENGINE AND I ONLY HAVE 30,000 MI ON IT AND IT KNOCKS REALLY BAD IN THE MORNINGS WHEN I START IT UP, AND IN THE AFTERNOONS AFTER I GET OFF OF WORK AT 4 P.M. THE SERVICE REP FOR THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK TOLD ME THAT HTHE ONLY THING THAT THEY COULD DO IS DECARBON THE ENGINE, BUT THAT THE KNOCK WAS GOING TO COME BACK. THE FIRST ENGINE THAT I HAD ON THIS TRUCK STARTED KNOCKING AT 29,000 MI AND IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE EVEN IF THEY DECARBONED THE ENGINE THEY COULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM KNOCKING,SO THEY ENDED UP HAVING TO OPEN THE ENGINE TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND IT TURNED OUT THAT THE BLOCK WAS CRACKED IN ONE OF THE CYLINDERS, AND THAT'S WHY THEY ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. WHEN THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE THEY REPLACED IT WITH ONE OF THE SAME DESIGN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS ENGINE WAS NOT GOING TO HAVE THAT PROBLEM. I FOUND OUT THAT THEY ALREADY REDISINED THE ENGINE THIS YEAR AND IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.
