1993 GMC Vandura G2500 Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THIS VEHICLE WAS TOWED AT 50 MILES FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. I SPENT MONEY EVERY 8000-12000 FOR BRAKE RELATED REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. ABOUT 4000 MILES AFTER EACH REPAIR, THE VEHICLE WOULD SWERVE INTO THE NEXT LANE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED, I PAID A NEW DEALER TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THE REAR BRAKES LIKE NEW WITH 91000 MILES. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A HISTORY OF DEFECTIVE ABS MODULATOR VALVES, A $1500 PART. THIS VALVE WAS REPLACED AND THE BRAKES PERFORM AS DESIGNED. AFTER 6 YEARS AND 91000 MILES, I CAN DRIVE MY VEHICLE WITHOUT FEAR OF SWERVING INTO ANOTHER LANE, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THERE WERE OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE, WHICH I'VE CORRECTED ON MY OWN AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED; HOWEVER, THEY WEREN'T SAFETY RELATED. *AK
