2015 GMC Yukon Xl Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2015 GMC Yukon Xl, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Service Box appears indicating - "Trailer Brake System" with a loud BING, BING, BING Alert sound. It continues every few minutes... Please note: we aren't using a trailer... I have googled/youtube it and found that this is an issue with many owners. They indicate that the wire harness in between two of the body control modules is defective. It is known to have faulty wire connection. This is intermittent, goes for months and stops for months, and then starts up again. Starting the vehicle, while driving slow or fast, it doesn't matter.

I keep getting a warning on my display on dash about my trailer brake system is not working. Also my temperature gauge stops working and I have to take off negative cable on battery to reset it. Temperature control sensor has been replaced but the problem still continues to happen.

My engine went out, and I had to have it rebuilt. There was a check engine light on. My steering goes out and in without warning while driving. I have talked to the dealership, and they stated that all safety recalls were done on my vehicle. My safety and those of others were put at risk when the steering failed. I almost crashed my vehicle in traffic. There were no warning messages prior to the failure. I did see that there was a recall in 2019 and the dealership will not inspect the vehicle without payment.

My car is giving me all kinds of warnings, parking assist off, rear back up, trailer brake, the radio sounds go off, blinker sounds go off, while trying to park power steering locks up, it will die in the middle of a turn. It’s doing everything The 2015 recall was created for. I do not think my car was fixed during the recall period. It is very hazardous.

The amount of rust that has been exposed is absolutely insane. My adjuster found the initial section of rust when we had the Yukon in for repairs from a storm. In the past 2 months, the rust has caused a massive hole underneath the rear passenger's side door and we have had no choice but to get it repaired. The initial estimate for this single repair is going to be over $3400. This rust easily could've broken down further and gotten into the brakes and other components right behind it as it sits very close to the wheel well. This is an absolutely dangerous issue and should be addressed.

I PURCHASED OUR 2015 GMC YUKON XL IN OCTOBER OF 2014. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH NOISE COMING FROM THE TIRES FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND HAD MANY PARTS REPLACED ONLY FOR THE NOISE TO COME RIGHT BACK. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES AND ALL THE TIRES ARE WEARING TO THE POINT THAT BELTS ARE NOW SHOWING. WHEN TALKING TO CONTINENTAL THESE FACTORY TIRES HAVE AN 80,000 MILE WARRANTY BUT THAT TIRE WEAR WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER FACTORY TIRES. AFTER CALLING GMC, CONTINENTAL AND MY LOCAL DEALER, I FINALLY WAS TOLD THEY WOULD GIVE ME $250 TOWARD NEW TIRES BUT I COULD ONLY USE THAT TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF CONTINENTAL TIRES. RECENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SAME TIRES THAT ARE ON MY VEHICLE FOR ALL THE PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN HAVING. WHEN I CALLED CONTINENTAL, I WAS TOLD THAT MY TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOW CAN I HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES THAT ARE DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL BUT THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE MY DOT IS NOT IN THE 1 MONTH RECALL. I HAVE NOW HAD TO SPEND $1000 TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES ON IT AND COST $70,000 TO PURCHASE 2 YEARS AGO. *TR

MY SEAT HEATER MALFUNCTIONED, BURNING A HOLE IN MY SEAT BACKREST, AND BURNING A HOLE IN MY JACKET! 30 SECONDS AFTER LEAVING MY HOME, DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, I SUDDENLY FELT A SHARP POKING IN MY BACK. WHEN I REACHED BACK I WAS SHOCKED TO FEEL THE SEAT BURNING AND A HOLE IN THE SEAT! I REACTED IMMEDIATELY, TURNING OFF THE SEAT HEATER AND PULLING OVER. MY CAR HAD SMOKE AND SMELLED OF BURNING PLASTIC. I LOOK AT THE BACK OF MY DRIVERS SEAT AND THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE SEAT WHERE IT BURNED STRAIGHT THROUGH. AND WHEN I TOOK OFF MY JACKET I FOUND A HOLE THERE AS WELL WHERE THE SEAT BURNED THROUGH IT AS WELL. I HAD A SMALL BURN, BUT IT WAS ONLY MINOR. IT WAS A DISTURBING SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF I DIDN'T REACT IMMEDIATELY OR WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. TODAY I TOOK IT INTO MY LOCAL GMC DEALER WHO DIDN'T SEEM VERY CONCERNED AND LET ME KNOW IT WOULD BE EXPENSIVE TO GET IF FIXED. I DECLINED THE SERVICE AT THIS TIME. I THEN CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE WHO DOCUMENTED MY SITUATION, BUT ALSO DIDN'T SEEM CONCERNED. I WOULD HAVE HOPED GMC WOULD HAVE WANTED TO AT LEAST DIAGNOSE ROOT CAUSE TO ENSURE THERE IS NOT A LARGER PROBLEM ON THEIR HANDS. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A PAYDAY HERE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO OTHERS AT A TIME THAT IT COULD CAUSE A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY.
