Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
2
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation as PE12-031 on October 15, 2012 to investigate harness buckles in car seats produced by Graco Children's Products, Inc. (Graco).During the investigation ODI discovered that Graco used three different harness buckle designs in the manufacture of certain booster, convertible, and rear facing infant (RFI) car seats produced between 2005 and 2014.The three buckle designs are identified as the ?Signature, ?QT, and ?QT3 which were all manufactured by AmSafe Commercial Products, Inc.All three buckles use unique internal latch components and operate differently, and all have different release button designs. On February 7, 2014, Graco submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to recall 3,773,379 toddler and booster seats produced with the buckles described above. On March 7, 2014, Graco amended the DIR adding an additional 403,222 toddler and booster seats in the recall. Please see safety recall 14C-001 for details related to the recall. On June 27, 2014, Graco submitted a second DIR recalling 1,910,102 RFI car seats produced with the QT1 buckle. This DIR also stated that Graco would conduct a Customer Satisfaction Campaign (CSC) to replace the Signature and QT3 buckles used on the non-recalled RFI models for the useful life of the car seat (seven years from the date of manufacture).Under the CSC, users of the non-recalled car seats can obtain a replacement buckle, free of charge, should they have a concern with their buckle. In addition to the approximately 6.1 million recalled car seats, the CSC covers approximately 2.3 million RFI car seats. Please see safety recall 14C-004 for additional details of the recall and CSC.ODI is closing this investigation based on Graco's recall and CSC actions to replace the buckles in all of the car seats it produced with Signature, QT1 and QT3 buckles.Additional information concerning the investigation can be found in the closing report available on SaferCar.gov.The ODI reports cited above can be viewed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues under the following ID numbers:Convertible and Booster (162): 10454450,10454393,10450712,10446071,10445997,10445988,10445975,10428246,10421053,10418155, 10413817,10406827,10402771,10397449,10473717,10466250,10463507,10455029,10454295,10444493, 10413648,10401202,10475529,10467797,10444593,10433600,10414471,10414449,10410574,10392858,10384014,10383056, 10366950,10366522,10363586,10361369,10430498,10456547,10397307,10475529,10381470,10381465,10366645,10312165,10477267,10478809,10481182,10481243,10481236,10481233,10481219,10482654,10482941,10483551,10483732,10483940,10485417,10486165,10487751,10487824,10489662,10488855,10489296,10489536,10490292,10491819,10493243,10493351,10493614,10493649,10493668,10493620,10494411,10494567,10494580,10494769,10494876,10493716,10494635,10495130,10495042,10495301,10496034,10496146,10496063,10496344,10496470,10497637,10497771,10498293,10498468,10498529,10499325,10499426,10499547,10499718,10499706,10499775,10500067,10500604,10500828,10500814,10501073,10501314,10501480,10502290,10502580,10502711,10502990,10504056,10504076,10505061,10504727,10504743,10505107,10505150,10505393,10508181,10508007,10509096,10509116,10510061,10510620,10511254,10511591,10512725,10514281,10516073,10521015,10524253,10482283,10260861,10260630,10260622,10260619,10260251,10524928,10526273,10526254,10531818,10533013,10533662,10535355,10548933,10549812,10549404,10550369,10550731,10550926,10551551,10552014,10552114,10554347,10555537,10556441,10558757,10559124,10561932,10561769,10561786,10562299,10563648 RFI (30): 10498308,10500767,10522316,10537013,1054348

The investigation has been upgraded to Engineering Analysis EA 13-001 for further study. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 25 reports from consumers that alleged difficulty in unlatching the harness buckle on their subject child seat.Since opening the investigation, ODI has received 55 additional reports.Consumers state that excessive force and/or effort is required to push the button to unlatch the harness. Some reported not being able to unlatch the buckle at all and were forced to remove their child by pulling them through the still buckled harness, or in some cases, by cutting the harness straps. The subject child seats utilize two different types (designs) of harness buckles, the Signature and the QT types, both of which are subject to the investigation. Each buckle type operates differently and has dissimilar latching and actuating mechanisms. The Signature buckle has a sliding release button that must be pushed downward to release the harness, while the QT buckle has a button that must be pushed inward to be released. The ODI reports can be reviewed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification (ODI) numbers: 10361369, 10366522, 10366645, 10366950, 10383056, 10397307, 10397449, 10406827, 10410574, 10413648, 10413817, 10414471, 10418155, 10421053, 10428246, 10430498, 10433600, 10444493, 10444593, 10454295, 10454393, 10454450, 10455029, 10456547, 10463507, 10466250, 10467797, 10473717, 10475529, 10475529, 10477267, 10478809, 10481182, 10481219, 10481233, 10481236, 10481243, 10482654, 10482941, 10483551, 10483732, 10483940, 10485417, 10486165, 10487751, 10487824, 10488855, 10489296, 10489536, 10489662, 10490292, 10491819, 10493243, 10493351, 10493614, 10493620, 10493649, 10493668, 10493716, 10494411, 10494567, 10494580, 10494635, 10494769, 10494876, 10495042, 10495130, 10495301, 10496034, 10496063, 10496146, 10496344, 10496470, 10497637, 10497771, 10498293, 10498308, 10498468, 10498529, 10499325

I HAVE A GRACO SIZE4ME 70 CAR SEAT MANUFACTURED ON 3/29/13. I PURCHASED IT ON 1/25/14 AND DID NOT START USING IT UNTIL JUNE OF 2014. I RECENTLY WENT TO TAKE THE COVER OFF TO WASH IT AND NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE FOAM HEADWINGS WAS BROKEN OFF. I CALLED GRACO AND THEY SAID THAT THE SEAT WAS NOT USABLE IN THAT CONDITION, THAT THE PART WAS NOT REPLACEABLE AND THEY SENT ME A NEW SEAT. KIND OF SCARY THAT A SEAT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR 7 YEARS ONLY LASTED A YEAR BEFORE A PART BROKE OFF THAT IS NOT REPLACEABLE AND RENDERS THE SEAT UNUSABLE.

GRACO CAR SEAT SIZE4ME 65 MODEL NUMBER: 1903755 SERIAL NUMBER: 3/26/2014 SINCE THE PURCHASE OF THIS CAR SEAT, I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE HARNESS DID NOT TIGHTEN EQUALLY AT EACH SHOULDER. I FELT THAT IN ORDER TO FIX THIS ISSUE, I HAD TO "RESET" THE HARNESS ONCE A WEEK, BY LOOSENING IT ENTIRELY AND RAISING AND LOWERING THE HEADREST A FEW TIMES BEFORE ADJUSTING IT TO FIT MY CHILD. TODAY I REMOVED THE HARNESS FROM THE PLATES IN THE BACK TO FIND THAT THE STRAPS ARE 2 VERY DIFFERENT LENGTHS. THE SIDE THAT NEVER TIGHTENED CORRECTLY IS SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER THAN THE SIDE THAT DOES TIGHTEN CORRECTLY. *TR

WE PURCHASED A GRACO MYSIZE 70 FOR MY SON, IT HAS BEEN USED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR. WE HAVE TWO CARS THAT ARE USED INTERCHANGEABLY AND EACH VEHICLE HAS ITS OWN SEAT. THE SEAT IS SOMETIMES NOT USED AT ALL IN 24-48 HRS OTHER TIMES IT IS USED MULTIPLE TIMES. TODAY WHEN I WENT TO REMOVE HIM FROM THE SEAT THE RED BUTTON THAT RELEASES THE BUCKLE WOULD NOT PUSH DOWN. I HAD TO LOOSEN THE STRAPS COMPLETELY AND PULL HIM OUT THROUGH THE STILL BUCKLED HARNESS. HAD THIS BEEN ONE OF MY OLDER LARGER CHILDREN I WOULD HAVE HAD TO CUT THE STRAPS. IN AN EMERGENCY I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO QUICKLY REMOVE MY CHILD FROM THE SEAT. GRACO IS SUPPOSED TO BE SENDING ME A SHIPPING LABEL TO RETURN MY SEAT. WHEN THEY GET MY SEAT THEY WILL SEND ME A NEW ONE. I AM LUCKY THAT I HAVE ANOTHER SEAT TO USE FOR HIM WHILE I WAIT FOR THE NEW ONE, BUT I KNOW A LOT OF PARENTS DON'T. I AM NOT SURE WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE IF I DIDN'T HAVE A BACK UP SEAT FOR HIM. YOU SYSTEM DID NOT HAVE THE MYSIZE 70 OR THE MODEL LISTED AS AN OPTION. I KNOW THE SIZE4ME 70 IS THE SAME SEAT (JUST A DIFFERENT NAME FOR A DIFFERENT RETAILER) SO THAT IS WHAT I CHOSE. *TR

I JUST PURCHASED A GRACO MYSIZE 70 ODYSSEY CARSEAT AT BABIES R US ON 12/7/2013. I HAD CONSULTED A FRIEND, WHO IS A CARSEAT TECHNICIAN, AND READ A NUMBER OF ONLINE REVIEWS ABOUT THE SEAT BEFORE DECIDING TO ORDER IT. MY ONLY CONCERN WAS THAT MANY REVIEWS COMMENTED ON TROUBLE WITH TIGHTENING THE STRAPS/HARNESS TO BE SNUG ENOUGH FOR A SAFE FIT. HOWEVER, I WAS ASSURED THAT THIS WAS FROM EARLIER MODELS AND THAT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN CORRECTED IN MODELS MADE LATER THIS YEAR. I MADE THE ASSUMPTION THAT THE FAULTY MODELS WOULD HAVE BEEN PULLED FROM THE STORES BY GRACO. HOWEVER, WE JUST INSTALLED THE SEAT AND CANNOT FULLY TIGHTEN THE STRAPS TO MAKE IT SAFE ENOUGH FOR OUR DAUGHTER. THE HARNESS LOCKS UP ABOUT 1-2" FROM BEING TIGHT AGAINST HER BODY AND WILL NOT MOVE ANY FARTHER, WHICH IS CLEARLY NOT SAFE. THE ONLY WAY TO ADJUST THE STRAPS TIGHTLY ENOUGH IS TO REMOVE THE CHILD FROM THE SEAT, GUESS HOW TIGHTLY THE STRAPS NEED TO BE PULLED, AND THEN TRY IT OUT WITH THE CHILD IN THE SEAT AGAIN. AFTER LOOKING UP MY MODEL/MANUFACTURE INFORMATION, I REALIZE THAT I MUST HAVE PURCHASED ONE OF THE DEFECTIVE SEATS, AS THE MANUFACTURE DATE IS FROM FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR (2013). FROM ONLINE REVIEWS, IT APPEARS THAT GRACO KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IS REPLACING THESE CARSEATS WITH NEWER MODELS THAT CAN BE PROPERLY TIGHTENED WITH A CHILD IN THE SEAT. I AM SURPRISED THAT GRACO IS STILL ALLOWING THESE UNSAFE CARSEATS TO BE SOLD. *TR

THE GRACO HEADWISE 70 WAS NOT A CHOICE IN THE SELECTIONS THE FORM GAVE ME BUT IT IS THE SAME AS THE OTHER GRACO CLONES (WITH THE NO RE-THREAD HARNESS FEATURE) SO I JUST SELECTED THE SIZE4ME 70. I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH ALL THE CLONES. I HAD MY HEADWISE FOR ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE THE HARNESS SLOWLY STARTED GIVING ME A HARD TIME. IT SLOWLY WAS GETTING HARDER TO TIGHTEN AND THEY STARTED TIGHTENING UNEVENLY. THEY NEVER GOT TIGHT ENOUGH TO PASS THE "PINCH TEST". EVENTUALLY IT PROGRESSED TO WHEN I GOT TO MY DESTINATION THE HARNESS WAS LOOSENED QUITE A BIT AND THE LOOSER STRAP WAS FALLING OFF MY SON'S SHOULDER. IT HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE TIME WE USED THE SEAT. I CALLED AND ASKED FOR A REFUND. THEY SENT ME A RETURN LABEL AFTER ABOUT 1-2 WEEKS AND THEN I MAILED IT OVERNIGHT TO THEM. THEY RECEIVED AND PROCESSED IT AND HAVE NOW TOLD ME 4-6 WEEKS UNTIL I GET A REFUND. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO HAVE MY FATHER BUY US A NEW REPLACEMENT SEAT AND I WILL PAY HIM BACK BUT THAT IS RIDICULOUSLY LONG TO WAIT FOR A REFUND. I CAN'T IMAGINE BEING WITHOUT A SEAT THAT LONG IF YOU NEEDED THE REFUND TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SEAT. THIS IS OVER $200 WE ARE TALKING ABOUT HERE! *TR
