Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

Report of RV cracked frame and other structural failure 2021 GRAND DESIGN TRANSCEND XPLOR 297QB CA [XXX] VIN [XXX] Purchased: [XXX] Summary of problems reported: - Cracked frame - Caved slide-out - Collapsed fridge cabinet in slideout, and deformed slide-out. - Tire worn out unevenly, with no thread in the inside (only) History summary: July 2023, when tires cupped or separated: so new tires installed. September-November 2023: inquired about alignment, but dealers and manufacturers said that alignment is not done in trailers. Camping World finds brakes of one side only worn out. July 2024: Fridge in slide-out cabinet collapses. Slideout is deformed, caved and rubs ground. One tire is completely worn out near the inside wall only. September-November 2024. Bounced around between dealers, Grand Design, and suppliers about the problem December 2024. Finally the dealer inspected the frame and detected that it is not just out of square measurements, but it is cracked. They reported that: - The RV is unsafe to drive - They can not fix the frame - To contact Grand Design about the warranty - They would not want the RV to sit in their lot for much longer. Grand Design has bounced again to Lippert, frame manufacturer, and they are not responding. Given the way Grand Design has constantly responded to my reports and warranty requests, related to the tire wearing, slide out collapse, and finally the frame found cracked, I have a strong reason to believe that the frame was damaged July 2023 or earlier, and Grand Design bounced back to me, or deflected my reported problems to suppliers, instead of indicating in first place to inspect the frame, and knowing that there was the potential of severe security risks. I can report extensive documentation and photos. Thank you for your attention. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

BOUGHT THIS AT ROBERSON RV, IN SALEM, OREGON. PICKED UP ON 2/15. AT HOME, NOTICED OUTSIDE PROPANE LEAK, SHUT IT OFF. ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE WAS NO SMOKE DETECTOR IN TRAILER, ONLY 2 CO DETECTORS. CONTACT LOCAL FIRE MARSHAL OFFICE. THESE BOTH ARE NFPA 1193, MAJOR LIFE SAFETY VIOLATIONS, BOTH ON/OFF ROAD. CAME FROM GRAND DESIGN FACTORY THAT WAY. DEALER DID GIVE ME FACTORY WARRANTY CHECK OFF LIST, SIGNED BY THEM, THAT THERE WAS NO LEAKS AND SMOKE DETECTOR WAS IN PLACE/WORKING. THAT IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT, I BELIEVE. I DID CONTACT GRAND DESIGN ABOUT THIS, WITH NO REPLY, SO FAR. MY CONSERNIS THAT HOW MANY OTHER TRAILERS/ MOTOR HOMES, MADE BY THEM ARE THE SAME WAY??? I AM DISABLED/RETIRED FIREFIGHTER/MEDIC, AND DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO OTHER FAMILIES. I HAVE SEEN THE RESULTS OF THIS MANY TIMES, IN MY JOB . NOT PRETTY. WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO KEEP THIS QUIET. THIS AFFECTS A LOT OF PEOPLE, POTENTIALLY. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT [XXX], AS NEEDED. I DID LOSE MY PREVIOUS TT, IN THE LIONSHEAD WILD LAND FIREAT DETROIT, OREGON, LABOR DAY WEEKEND 2020. BEARLY MADE IT OUT ALIVE. JUST GOT DONE WITH THE INSURANCE AND FEMA PAPERWORK. THAT'S ANOTHER REASON WHILE THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOR ME. THANK YOU AGAIN.*DT*JB INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
