What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Harley-Davidson Flhpi, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim
THIS CAM BEARING ISSUE IS WELL-KNOWN AMONG HD TWIN-CAM OWNERS. MY BEARING BEGIN TO CAUSE THE ENGINE TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY SO THAT I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAVE IT SERVICED TO GET THEM TO RIDE IT. THE TECHNICIAN DECLARED THAT IT WAS INDEED THE CAM BEARING AT FAULT. HARLEY-DAVIDSON REPAIRED THE ENGINE WITH NO EXPENSE TO ME. MY REASON FOR REPORTING THIS INCIDENT IS TO ADD TO THE NUMBERS SO THAT MAYBE HARLEY-DAVIDSON WILL ISSUE A RECALL SO THAT THERE WILL BE NO UNNECCESARY ACCIDENTS/DEATHS.
REAR OUTSIDE CAM BEARING FAILURE. OLD BEARING WAS THE "BALL" TYPE. I INSTALLED THE NEW UPDATED ROLLER TYPE ALONG WITH NEW CAMS AND ASSOCIATED PARTS.*AK
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
