2018 Harley-Davidson Flhxs Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2018 Harley-Davidson Flhxs, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

  • Powertrain (other)571.4%

I EXPERIENCED A FRONT BRAKE LOCK-UP THAT THREW ME OFF THE BIKE, AND ALMOST GOT RAN OVER BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. IT SEEMED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE CALIPERS, BUT DON'T KNOW FOR SURE. I WAS GOING AT 20 MILES PER HOUR AS WAS STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP LIGHT. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AS THE BIKE IS BRAND NEW, AND THEY CAME AND PICKED IT UP UNDER THE WARRANTY.

I RECEIVED A NOTICE ON NOV.05, 2018 HARLEY DAVIDSON RECALL NO. 0173 NHTSA RECALL NO. 18V734. I WENT APPROXIMATELY ON NOV. 17, 2018 TO DROP OFF THE MOTORCYCLE AT ONE OF THE LOCAL HARLEY DEALERSHIPS IN GARLAND TX. AND WAS TOLD BY ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GET ON THE LIST AND THAT I WOULD BE CALLED WHEN IT CAME MY TURN DUE TO THEM NOT HAVING THE PARTS NEEDED TO FIX THE RECALL. I WENT BACK ON 18TH OF DEC. 2018 AND ASKED ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS IF HE HAD ANY IDEA ON THE WAIT AND FOR THE FIX. HE SAID HE COULDN'T GIVE ME AN ANSWER. HE SAID THERE WERE 59 PPL AHEAD OF ME AND THAT IT COULD TAKE UP TO 2 MORE MONTHS BEFORE IT BECAME MY TURN. SO I ASKED IF I COULD GET A LOANER SINCE I AM STILL PAYING ON SOMETHING THAT I CANT USE DUE TO THE RECALL (INTERNAL TRANSMISSION LEAKAGE THAT MAY CAUSE A CRASH) AND HE SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CALL HARLEY DAVIDSON CORPORATE. I CALLED HD CORPORATE AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND THAT I SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO RIDE MY BIKE. I TOLD JOE (GUY AT HD CORPORATE) THAT I WASN'T GOING TO RIDE IT BECAUSE THE SERVICE TECH AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID HE WOULDN'T RECOMMEND RIDING IT, SO BASICALLY THE RUN AROUND. I AM REACHING OUT TO Y'ALL TO SEE IF I CAN REQUEST A LEMON LAW ON THIS MOTORCYCLE SINCE I AM STILL PAYING ON IT AND CAN'T ENJOY IT DUE TO THEIR UNTIMELY SOLUTION . THANK YOU IN ADVANCE, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).' *PM

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
