2002 Harley-Davidson Flstc Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I HAVE AN HARLEY DAVIDSON FLSTCI 2002. I HAD A NEED TO OPEN THE FUEL TANK UP FOR MAINTENANCE. WHEN I OPENED IT I FOUND THAT THE LINER INSIDE THE FUEL TANK HAD COME LOOSE OVER 80% OF THE TANK. THIS WAS STARTING TO BREAK APART INTO SMALL PIECES AND HAD STARTED PLUGGING THE FUEL FILTER. THIS HAS A REAL POTENTIAL TO CAUSE ENGINE FUEL STARVATION ESPECIALLY AT HIWAY SPEEDS AND CAN CONTRIBUTE TO A SERIOUS REAR END COLLISION. THROUGH THE INTERNET HARLEY GROUPS I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE MOTORCYCLES.
