2003 Harley-Davidson Flstci Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2003 Harley-Davidson Flstci, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

DEFECTIVE OIL PUMP ON A 2003 HARLEY DAVIDSON FLSTCI. (100 YEAR SPECIAL) MOTORCYCLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM LOCAL DEALER AND ONLY HAS 14,000 MILES. NOTICED UNUSUAL VIBRATION AND CHECKED OIL INPUT INTO OIL BAG. VERY LOW PRESSURE AT FIRST AND NO PRESSURE ON SECOND DAY AFTER SLOW EASY WARM UP AND EVEN MORE ENGINE VIBRATION. DID NOT WANT TO CEASE ENGINE SO TURNED IT OFF AND REMOVED OIL PUMP. (PUMP IS AVAILABLE.) ASKED A DIFFERENT LOCAL DEALER IF THEY HAVE HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT OIL PUMPS ON THIS MODEL AND THE RESPONSE WAS (THEY HAVE HAD A FEW BUT NOT VERY MANY). I HAVE CHANGED OIL ON A REGULAR BASIS AND I DON'T THINK THAT AN OIL PUMP SHOULD GO BAD AFTER ONLY 14,000 MILES. PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED AS I HAVE TAKEN THE OIL PUMP OUT AND HAVE NOT REPLACED IT YET. I ALSO HAVE TO CHECK FOR DAMAGE TO PISTONS,RINGS AND CYLINDERS. HARLEY DAVIDSON CLAIMS TO BE THE BEST AND I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL BUT NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
