2009 Harley-Davidson Flstn Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

"TAKATA RECALL" WHILE LEAVING MY HOME ABOUT .5 MILES AWAY COMING TO STOP IN TRAFFIC MY WIFE SAID SHE SEEN SMOKE AND ASKED IF THE CAR IN FRONT OF USE WAS COMING FROM ITS TAIL PIPE. AS I LOOKED AND SEEN NO SMOKE FROM THE CAR I LOOKED DOWN AND SEEN APART OF MY BIKE IN FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING UP SHE JUMPED OFF THE BIKE WHILE I SHUT IT OFF PUT DOWN THE KICK STAND. I TRIED TO BLOW OUT THE FLAME OUT WITH NO LUCK THEN GRABBED A HOODIE FROM THE SADDLE BAG AND SWIPED OUT THE FIRE. I THEN STARTED THE BIKE PULLED INTO A CAR WASH TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND NOTICED I HAD A SOFT REAR BRAKE PEDAL. AS I LOOKED OVER THE AREA THE TWO PLASTIC CONNECTIONS TO THE REAR BRAKE SWITCH MELTED AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THAT SWITCH.
