What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2009 Harley-Davidson Flstn, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

From owner reports, verbatim
"TAKATA RECALL" WHILE LEAVING MY HOME ABOUT .5 MILES AWAY COMING TO STOP IN TRAFFIC MY WIFE SAID SHE SEEN SMOKE AND ASKED IF THE CAR IN FRONT OF USE WAS COMING FROM ITS TAIL PIPE. AS I LOOKED AND SEEN NO SMOKE FROM THE CAR I LOOKED DOWN AND SEEN APART OF MY BIKE IN FLAMES AND SMOKE COMING UP SHE JUMPED OFF THE BIKE WHILE I SHUT IT OFF PUT DOWN THE KICK STAND. I TRIED TO BLOW OUT THE FLAME OUT WITH NO LUCK THEN GRABBED A HOODIE FROM THE SADDLE BAG AND SWIPED OUT THE FIRE. I THEN STARTED THE BIKE PULLED INTO A CAR WASH TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED AND NOTICED I HAD A SOFT REAR BRAKE PEDAL. AS I LOOKED OVER THE AREA THE TWO PLASTIC CONNECTIONS TO THE REAR BRAKE SWITCH MELTED AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THAT SWITCH.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
