The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, AS A RESULT OF A GREATER BODY THICKNESS THAN USED IN PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS, THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR MAY CONTACT THE FRONT FENDER UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. IN SOME CASES THIS CONTACT MAY ALLOW THE FRONT FENDER TO CATCH ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE REGULATOR BODY WHICH COULD IMPEDE THE OPERATOR'S ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE.
The risk: THIS COULD RESULT IN A CRASH WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH TO THE RIDER.
The remedy: ON MOTORCYCLES WHICH DO NOT HAVE ACCESSORY ENGINE GUARDS, DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN INTERMEDIATE MOUNTING BRACKET THAT WILL RELOCATE THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR TO A POSITION WHICH PROVIDES MORE CLEARANCE FROM THE FRONT FENDER. ON VEHICLES WITH AN ACCESSORY ENGINE GUARDS, DEALERS WILL INSTALL THE THINNNER DIMENSION VOLTAGE REGULATOR TO AVOIDE THE FRONT FENDER CLEARANCE PROBLEM. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 22, 2007. A SECOND CUSTOMER LETTER REFLECTING THE ABOVE REMEDY WILL BE SENT TO OWNERS ON MARCH 16, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HARLEY-DAVIDSON AT 1-414-343-4056.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON XL1200C MOTORCYCLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MOTOR WOULD STALL SPORADICALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. UPDATED 09/28/11*LJ UPDATED 2/23/12 *CN

THE IDLE AIR CONTROLLER (IAC) IS RECEIVING POWER FROM THE ECM WITH THE IGNITION KEY REMOVED AND THE RUN/STOP SWITCH IN THE STOP POSITION. THE IAC DRAINS THE BATTERY VOLTAGE RESULTING IN A DEAD BATTERY. THE CAUSE IS CORROSION ON THE SYSTEM RELAY IN THE FUSE BOX. THE SYSTEM RELAY HAS CONSTANT POWER APPLIED TO IT AND WITH THE CORROSION THIS POWER IS BEING FEED TO THE ECM WHICH IN TURN FEEDS POWER TO THE IAC. HARLEY DAVIDSON- TT322- SAYS THAT THE CORROSION IS CAUSED BY WATER RUNNING DOWN A WIRING HARNESS AND ENDING UP AT THE SYSTEM RELAY. I'VE HAD MY MOTORCYCLE FOR 2 1/2 MONTHS AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE RAIN OR GOTTEN WET. I HAVE HAD A DEAD BATTERY TWICE BECAUSE OF THIS. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON A HARLEY SPORTSTER FORUM, I HAVE FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM.*JB

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A RECALL 06V476000 FOR THE 2007 HARLEY DAVIDSON XL1200C MOTORCYCLE ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR ON 01/22/07. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, WHO HAD ALREADY ORDERED THE PARTS AND WAS WAITING FOR THEM. SHE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS CAME IN SOMETIMES IN FEBRUARY. SHE STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HER THAT THE PARTS CAME IN ,AND THEY PUT THE RECALL PARTS ON THE MOTORCYCLES ON THEIR SALES FLOOR. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE SAME PARTS AGAIN FOR THE CONSUMERS THAT ALREADY OWNED THESE MOTORCYCLES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD HAVE TO PLACE ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL ORDER FOR THE OWNERS OF THE MOTORCYCLES. THE NATURE OF THE COMPLAINT WAS THAT SHE FELT THAT THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE CONSUMER FIRST AND NOT THE MOTORRCYCLES THAT THEY WERER TRYING TO SELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 MILES, AND THE CURRENT WAS 750 MILES.*AK
