2007 Harley-Davidson XL883 Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

MY HARLEY DAVIDSON 2007 XL883 SPORTSTER...THE BAR AND EYELET WHICH HOLDS THE SPRING FOR THE KICKSTAND HANGS DOWN WAY TO FAR. THIS SITUATION HAS CAUSED MY THE EYELET AND BAR TO BREAK OFF TWO TIMES. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AS WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE KICKSTAND WILL NOT STAY UP, AND ONE MUST TIE IT UP SO IT WILL NOT DRAG THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING...ALSO BECAUSE THE SPRING IS NOT CONNECTED THE BIKE MIGHT FALL WHEN PARKED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I DRILLED A HOLE FOR THE SPRING TO CLIP ONTO. THIS DID NOT HELP THE SITUATION, AS IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SO I HAD A WELDER TO WELD A NEW BAR AND THEN A METAL WASHER TO HOLD THE SPRING. THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX AND AM SURE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I THINK THE DEALER SHOULD FIX THIS DEFECT AS IT IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY SPORTSTERS ON MY MAKE. I READ ON A FORUM THAT THE DEALER DOES HAVE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM BY CUTTING THE BAR OFF, THEN DRILL AND TAP..SCREW ON A NEW BAR WITH EYELET. PLEASE CHECK INTO THIS AND ADVISE. THANKS FOR YOU HELP IN THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. DONALD KINYOUN *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
