The defect: Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. (Hino) is recalling certain 2020-2024 NE7A, NE7B, NE8A, NH9A, NJ7A, NJ7B, NJ8A, NJ8J, NV7A, NV7B, and NV8A vehicles equipped with 70 or 90 gallon fuel tanks. The fuel sender float may deform and detach, which can lead to an inaccurate fuel gauge reading.
The risk: An inaccurate fuel gauge may result in the vehicle unexpectedly running out of fuel and stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the fuel sender gauge, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 5, 2023. Owners may contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9390. Hino's number for this recall is AAV70.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where the CARB Clean Truck Check will not pass due to a “Test Results Could Not Be Determined” error. Units equipped with the Hino Edge Telematics system may require a software update to resolve the error.

2011 – Current model year Hino Conventional and 2013 – 2020 model year Hino COE trucks equipped with reprogrammable control modules supported by the Hino Repro Server When reprograming a control module that is supported by the Hino Reprogramming server such as an Engine, Vehicle or Doser control module (ECU, VCS, DCU), the error below may be seen in DX3 when attempting to reprogram. This is typically the result of the VIN not being registered with the Hino Repro Server. This will require creation of an INF file via the DX3 and registering the file on the Hino Repro Server.

Subject vehicles contain a radiator mount vibration isolator that may have been manufactured using a surface coating that may cause the isolator rubber to crack and separate over time. The following work procedure will provide guidance for replacement of the isolators.

SERVICE BRAKES, AIR

L-SERIES ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MALFUNCTION MESSAGE. If Wabco fault SPN 807 FMI 13 is stored in the ABS module, confirm if the vehicle is equipped with traction and stability control. If the vehicle is NOT equipped with the traction and stability control option, inspect the front brake relay valve under the cab to see if the chassis harness connector is plugged into the front brake relay valve. If the chassis harness connector is plugged into the front brake relay valve, this connector should NOT be connected. Disconnecting the connection at the front brake relay valve and clearing the code from the ABS module will resolve the active Wabco fault code.
