1998 Holiday Rambler Endeavor Recalls

Safety recall campaigns filed with NHTSA that cover this model year

Data refreshed

Recalls apply to specific vehicles, not to every vehicle of a model year. Check your VIN with NHTSA or your manufacturer's dealer to confirm whether a recall affects your vehicle.

Recall campaignsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

Recall campaigns

2 campaigns cover this model year — what the defect is, what it could cause, and what the remedy is

EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER

May 8, 2003
The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORHOMES, FIFTH WHEELS AND TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH NORCOLD REFRIGERATOR COOLING UNITS MODEL NUMBERS 1200LR AND 1200RIM, THESE REFRIGERATORS CAN EXPERIENCE LOW CYCLE FATIGUE FAILURE WHICH CAN LEAD TO THE LIQUID SOLUTION SLOWLY LEAKING FROM THE SEALED, PRESSURIZED COOLING UNIT THROUGH A SMALL CRACK.
The risk: IF A LEAK OCCURS AND THE UNIT IS CONTINUALLY OPERATED, HYDROGEN GAS MAY BE EXPELLED AND CAN BE IGNITED, RESULTING IN A FIRE, POSSIBLY CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
The remedy: NORCOLD WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT COOLING UNIT FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NORCOLD SERVICE CENTER AT 1-800-667-3005 OR MONACO AT 574-862-7211.

Apr 9, 1998
47 units potentially affected
The defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: DIESEL MOTOR HOMES BUILT ON A FREIGHTLINER CHASSIS. THE FUEL RELAY WAS POSITIONED TOO CLOSE TO THE ENGINE. EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM THE ENGINE CAN CAUSE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE FUEL RELAY.
The risk: IF THE FUEL RELAY FAILS, ENGINE STALLING CAN OCCUR INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL RELOCATE THE FUEL RELAY TO THE FRAME STRUT OF THE FIREWALL.

What a recall is

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Safety investigations

NHTSA inquiries naming this vehicle. An investigation is not a finding of a defect, and it is not a recall.

RELOCATE FUEL RELAY

Opened Sep 9, 1997
Closed Apr 8, 1998

HOLIDAY RAMBLER ADMITS THAT THEY INADVERTENTLY POSITION THE FUEL RELAY IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE ENGINE.THIS WAS DISCOVERED AFTER REVIEWING CHASSIS BUILDER INFORMATION AND NOT THE RESULT OF COMPLAINTS.HOLIDAY RAMBLER PURPORTS THAT THEIR RECORDS INDICATE MOST OF THE MOTOR HOMES AFFECTED MAY STILL BE AT THEIR DEALERS.THIS WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THE ABSENCE OF COMPLAINTS OR WARRANTY CLAIMS.HOLIDAY RAMBLER WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL TO RELOCATE THE FUEL RELAY TO THE FRAME STRUT OF THE FIREWALL.THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED.
