The defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE CRANKCASE BREATHER SEPARATOR MAY BE DEFECTED. DURING THE MOLDING PROCESS, THE BREATHER PASSAGE MAY HAVE BEEN BLOCKED BY A THIN LAYER OF THE INJECTED PLASTIC MATERIAL. THIS BLOCKAGE WILL CREATE A BUILD-UP OF PRESSURE INSIDE THE CRANKCASE AND MAY CAUSE THE LEFT SIDE ENGINE SEAL TO BE PUSHED OUT OF POSITION AND AN OIL LEAK WILL OCCUR.
The risk: OIL LEAKING FROM THE FAILED SEAL WHILE RIDING CAN SPRAY ONTO THE REAR TIRE OR THE ROAD, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BREATHER SEPARATOR, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 30, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Safety recall
A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
