2006 Honda CR-V Problems

The contact owns a 2006 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 MPH at night, the driver's side low beam headlight had failed to operate as needed. The contact stated that the high-beam headlights operated as needed; however, the driver's side low-beam headlight was inoperable. The contact stated that no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local mechanic who replaced the driver's side headlight bulb. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the failure had become a recurring failure and had recently occurred to the passenger’s side low beam headlight. The contact researched online and became aware of similar failures with other vehicles. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

The Vechile Stability Assist (VSA) light came on and took it too my Honda mechanic and confirmed that the Anti-lock Brake System(ABS) module needs to be replaced and this disabled the VSA. Parts+labor over $2,600+ to fix. Called the Manufacturer (Honda) and told me that I would have too first get it fixed and then submit the bill to them and they may reimburse me some of the cost or nothing. Since the ABS component controls brake and stability this a safety issue and therefore subject to a recall. I looked on the web and in the United Kingdom and Canada that Honda has paid in full. In the US, Honda doesn't consider it a defect and thus won't reimburse the owner's for fixing the vehicle. Once again because this an safety issue I believe that Honda should recall these vehicles and cost should be covered by Honda

About 4 months ago I discovered that the electric operator on the front passenger window no longer worked. I recently had a mechanic try to repair it and he found that the motor worked well. He replaced the switches in both the passenger door and the driver's door but window only goes down and not up. The mechanic checked online and discovered that this vehicle model was recalled in December, 2020, for this problem. When I checked on getting my vehicle repaired through the recall, I discovered that my specific vehicle was not included in the recall. Because I am now aware of the risk of fire, I request that my vehicle be included in the recall so I can have it repaired. Thanks for your consideration of this request.

Seems to be a part of the ABS/VSA system faulty engagement (Anti-Lock Brakes System/Vehicle Stability Assist) since the VSA warning light come on during the fault. Causes vehicle to brake, jerk and buck in middle of road. Almost got rear-ended on several occasions. Car stalls in middle of roadway. Disfunctional safety system failing to work properly. Intermittent problem that has occurred several time in the past year. Local dealer was "not able" to diagnose the problem despite inspection and problem issue report.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY (WESTBOUND BETWEEN GREENSPRING VILLAGE AND ROLLING RD) AT ABOUT 40 OR 45MPH, THE HOOD ON MY 2006 HONDA CRV OPENED BY ITSELF. IT FLEW OPEN AND OBSTRUCTED THE WINDOW. I HAD TO STOP IN A TRAVEL LANE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE SHOULDER AT LOW SPEED. I'M LUCKY I WASNT HURT AND DIDNT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAD NOT OPENED THE HOOD IN WEEKS.

THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR OF MY 2006 CRV SAGS DOWN INTO MY LINE OF SIGHT. HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD CAUSES IT TO SAG EVEN LOWER. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR THE OBVIOUS VISIBILITY REASON, BUT COULD ALSO BE DANGEROUS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. HONDA STARTED MAKING AN UPGRADED REPLACEMENT PART THAT SHOULDN'T SAG, BUT FAILED TO UPDATE THE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES AFFECTED. I CURRENTLY HAVE MINE TIED UP WITH TWINE UNTIL I CAN GET A REPLACEMENT VISOR.

there was no accident yet!!!!The vsa and abs lights on my 2006 Cr-v came on upon starting and stayed on until the engine was stopped. This happened every time the car was started. the car ends up bucking on me. My Honda dealership diagnosed the problem to be a faulty abs modulator unit. The stated replacement cost is $2,400, including labor. I feel that this defect is essential in ensuring the overall safety of this car. The weight of the car is significant enough that an uncontrolled skid is much more likely to end in disaster than a skid that is stopped with the vsa and abs function working properly. Living in central PA, the abs and vsa functions are used frequently - especially in the winter. These key safety features were a top priority in my decision to buy this car. While the car's life expectancy is touted to be around 300,000 miles, it is unforgivable for such a significant safety function to fail at only 102,000 miles. I feel that Honda should recall these cars and replace the vsa modulator unit entirely at Honda's expense. And for those of us who have already paid for the repair - reimburse the full amount of the repair! the car without vsa and abs is not at all the same "as advertised" when sold new!.

I purchased my vehicle used in 2019 and immediately noticed a loud creaking noise from the front passenger area, especially in colder weather when driving over bumps at low speeds. By 2024, the noise became louder, more frequent, and occurred in all temperatures. In October 2024, I lost control of my vehicle and nearly flipped. Warning lights briefly appeared, indicating possible suspension issues, but they disappeared before I could diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to continue driving despite the safety risk. In February 2025, I had a flat tire on the front passenger side and discovered it was nearly bald—far more worn than the other tires of the same age. Upon removal, it became clear that the front lower control arm was in a dangerously unnatural state and needed replacement. I recalled seeing a 2012 recall for this exact part in my Honda account, but when I entered my VIN, it stated the recall didn’t apply—likely due to age rather than the actual defect. This is a life-or-death issue that could easily lead to a fatal crash. Honda must address this immediately.

Extensive undercarriage rust around the frame. It looks like it should’ve been included in the recalls but doesn’t say it is.

The rear passenger wheel assembly became detached after crossing a small depression in the road. The body/frame had rusted where the two bolts that attached to the wheel assembly. The entire frame and body has rusted underneath the car.

DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. I WENT TO HONDA OWNERS' WEBSITE AND PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE HONDA CR-V OWNERS WHO HAD REPLACED THE SUN VISORS ON THEIR CARS MORE THAN THREE TIMES. THEY AND I THINK IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE DRIVERS DON'T HAVE PROTECTION FROM SUNLIGHT AND HAVE DIFFICULTY SEEING THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS WHEN THE SUN VISOR IS DOWN. *TR

THIS CAR FAILED THE VA STATE INSPECTION DUE TO RECALLS. CAR IS NOW UNDRIVEABLE CAN NOT ACCELERATE.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT SPORADICALLY COMES ON WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND IN MOTION. I HAD MY LOCAL DEALER EXAMINE THE ISSUE AND THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY SENSOR IN MY DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON EVERY TIME THAT I DRIVE THE CAR. SOME TIMES DAYS GO BY WITH NORMAL DRIVING THAT THE LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON AND THEN THERE ARE MULTIPLE DAYS IN A ROW WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON.

HONDA OVERCHARGED FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPAIR AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION WITH A REBUILT TRANSMISSION RATHER THAN A NEW ONE. AFTER READING THE HONDA COMPLAINTS SITE, I DISCOVERED THAT HONDA OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE REPLACED TRANSMISSIONS TOO. ALSO, THE REPAIR COST ME $2,358.81 AFTER HONDA SUPPOSEDLY CONTRIBUTED $1,500 TO THE REPAIR. THIS COST IS MORE THAN I WOULD HAVE PAID IF I HAD TAKEN THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP FOR REPAIR. 2006 HONDA CR-V EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER SAFETY PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE RECENTLY REQUIRED THE SPARE TIRE BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE TO REPLACE A ROAD HAZARD DAMAGED TIRE. ON REMOVING THE SPARE TIRE COVER, IT WAS NOTICED THAT ONLY TWO OF THE THREE TIRE LUGS THAT SUPPORT THE TIRE WERE IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE CAME WITH THREE TIRE LUGS FOR THE SPARE, AS THIS WAS NOTICED WHEN A DIFFERENT SPARE TIRE COVER WAS INSTALLED WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP. THE DAMAGED TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW TIRE AND THE SERVICEMAN WENT TO PLACE THIS NEW TIRE ON THE EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER. HE SHEARED OFF ONE MORE OF THE LUGS AND STATED THAT HE HAD NOT APPLIED EXCESSIVE FORCE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND LUG NOW MISSING AND THAT THE SPARE TIRE SHOULD NOT BE PLACED ON THE EXTERIOR SPARE TIRE CARRIER WITH ONLY A SINGLE LUG TO CARRY THE WEIGHT OF THE SPARE TIRE. THE SPARE TIRE WAS PLACED IN THE INTERIOR REAR STORAGE AREA. I WAS GIVEN THE SHEARED OFF LUG, WHICH I STILL HAVE IN MY POSSESSION, SHOULD IT BE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE IF STRUCTURAL FAILURE WAS THE RESULT BY EXAMINATION OF A METALLURGIST. CONTACTING THE DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (HONDA OF BOWIE, MD), THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM, AT NO COST TO ME, AS A LATENT DEFECT, AS THEY STATED IT WAS BEYOND THE NORMAL WARRANTY PERIOD. THEY QUESTIONED WHETHER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANUAL. I RESPONDED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER LUGS ARE NOT A SERVICEABLE ITEM (EXCEPT TO TIGHTEN THE LUGS TO RETAIN THE TIRE) AND THAT THE LUGS SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS REFERRED TO THE NEXT HONDA LEVEL OF APPEAL, WHERE I AM STILL AWAITING A RESOLUTION. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM IN THAT THE SPARE TIRE CAN POSSIBLY FALL OFF THE VEHICLE IF THE SPARE TIRE LUGS FAIL, AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS DOCUMENTED FOR OTHER CR-V OWNERS TO HELP WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *TR

TODAY I HAD A 4TH VALVE STEM FAILURE THAT HAS OCCURRED ON MY 2006 HONDA CRV THAT I PURCHASED USED ON AUGUST 3, 2007. THE 1ST VALVE STEM FAILURE OCCURRED ON AUGUST 3, 2007 ON THE REAR RIGHT TIRE. THE 2ND VALVE STEM FAILURE OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 10,2007 ON THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. THE 3RD VALVE STEM FAILURE OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 6, 2008 ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AGAIN. THE 4TH VALVE STEM FAILURE OCCURRED ON JUNE 18, 2008 ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. I FOUND OUT TODAY THROUGH AN INTERNET SEARCH THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL OF SOME VALVE STEMS SURE TO FAILURE. I DO NOT KNOW THE ODDS OF ONE CAR HAVING FOUR VALVE STEM FAILURES IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR, BUT I CAM GUESS THAT THIS IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. *TR

AS I WAS PARKING MY CAR, IT SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LURCHED FORWARD FULL THROTTLE OUT OF CONTROL OVER THE PARKING BARRIER AND CURB AND THROUGH A STOREFRONT WINDOW. I TRIED TO STOP IT AS MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE THE WHOLE TIME, BUT I COULD NOT, AND IT LODGED ITSELF INTO A DRYWALL COUNTER AND SIDE WALL.(IT WAS LATER FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A 600 POUND SAFE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTER, WHICH PROBABLY STOPPED THE CAR) I SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND YELLED FOR HELP. I WAS COVERED IN GLASS AND INJURED MY SHOULDER, NECK, UPPER BACK AND RIGHT LEG. I HAD JUST HAD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR AND REAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP 6 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS. MY CAR WAS MAINTAINED THERE REGULARLY. IT IS FORTUNATE NOBODY WAS KILLED. THE INCIDENT WAS CAUGHT ON THE SECURITY TAPE. *TR
