2009 Honda CR-V Problems

My front passenger seat weight sensor is faulty and shows as "OFF" when a large passenger is in the seat. An independent service center has scanned and confirmed the faulty sensor. I see CRV recalls for both the sensors and airbags, but my VIN does not return a result.

I was drive and I hit a curb and my airbags wasn't going fast or hit the curb hard at all but the airbags deployed and hit me in face and my hand it hurt . This is unsafe and could have killed me

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2009 HONDA CR-V. It was discovered that there was a mileage discrepancy. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 133,000 and at the time of running the VIN on carfax, it was discovered that the mileage was 314,000.

Car was assessed for recall related to service bulletin 23-032. Recall was performed, but the mechanic who performed the recall says the car is not repaired because the rear frame corrosion, as described in bulletin 23-032, is so severe that a large piece is missing from the rear frame. The mechanic says the repair as described in the bulletin is not enough to fix the car. The service bulletin remedy was only performed because the rear trailing arm bolts were able to be removed, but the car is still unsafe due to rear frame corrosion that Honda has admitted to as per the recall. The car is considered unsafe due to the frame damage and likely cannot pass state inspection. After calling Honda, Honda says the repair is complete even though the mechanic who performed the recall says the repair is not complete and the car is unsafe due to issues with rear frame corrosion that led to the recall in the first place. Honda is refusing to discuss the issue any further. A screenshot of the damaged part of the rear frame has been attached. This is part of a video taken by the mechanic who performed the recall. In this video the mechanic also states that “this is not a repair.” He also states that part of the damage is obscured by the brace that was attached to the frame, so the image provided does not show the full extent of the damage.

The contact was informed of a possible buy-back. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic for maintenance where it was noticed that the subframe was rusted past the L-bracket. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the subframe was rusted past the L-bracket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. I contacted my local Honda dealer per the recall letter back in Summer of 2023. Dealer stated that rather than do the recall inspection , they would wait until they got a recall repair kit in so I didn’t have to make a possible 2 trips. The dealer stated they would contact me. It’s now April 15, 2024 and still haven’t been contacted yet.

Car suddenly slows down to about 18 mph. Cannot speed back up. Has happened several times in traffic. Left overnight one time and started next morning. Second time, left overnight and would not start next morning. Turned off and on, off and on, finally ran normally. Then, same day, while driving in traffic, same thing happened. Slowed down to about 18 mph and barely made it back home. Honda dealer says no open recall for this car?????? Have a recall no.: 19E068000 given to me by my mechanic.

Steering gear is leaking

STEERING RACK REPLACED ABOUT 3-1/2 YEARS AGO PROBABLY AROUND 50,000 MILES (EST) . WAS TOLD TODAY NEEDS SECOND REPLACEMENT AT AROUND 86,000 MILES. THIS MEANS STEERING RACK WILL HAVE FAILED TWICE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50.

ON MY LAST 2 VISITS TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, I HAVE BEEN TALKED WITH ABOUT REPLACING MY TIRES. THE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR AND ARE THE CONTINENTAL 4X4 CONTACT M&S 225165R 17 102T. I HAVE 18,00 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT IS KEPT IN A GARAGE WHEN NOT DRIVING. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRES WERE "SOFT" AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $633.60 PLUS. I WAS SURPRISED BECAUSE I THOUGHT TIRES LASTED A LOT LONGER THAN 18,000. I THOUGHT TIRES LASTED 50,000 TO 65,00 MILES IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES THAT ARE ON MY CAR. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE TIRES. DO THESE ORIGINAL TIRES HAVE PREMATURE OR UNEVEN WEAR, IN WHICH CASE THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE. *TR

Brake pedal continues to be squishy, having to be pushed all the way down to the floor to stop, after having replaced the master cylinder and brake booster Twice, flushing and replacing brake fluid, clearing air out of the brake line multiple times! Dealer has no idea how to fix this. It’s defective brake system has been serviced multiple times by Honda dealer!

2009 Honda CRV with 200,000+ miles. The brakes are spongy. Brought it to my mechanic because it is not in ideal driving condition. Checked brake pads and all that and couldn't figure it out. Upon investigation- the brake booster went bad. Replaced that at a ridiculous cost being that he had to take apart the steering column to get to the part. On my way home from picking it up, the brakes locked on me. Got it on a trailer to bring back to his house and the brakes were no longer locked up. Got it back. Brakes were ok for a little while. Took it through a car wash and as I was pulling out, the brakes were spongy again. Upon more investigation- other 2009 CRVs have experienced this as well. I spent over $2000 figuring out the brakes and they still don't work as they should.

AC COMPRESSOR, THIS IS THE 2ND CAR I HAVE OWED SAME YEAR. BECAUSE I OBVIOUSLY LOVE THESE CARS THAT THE AC COMPRESSOR HAS NEEDED FIXED. SO IT'S OBVIOUSLY BAD. *TR

I am writing to express my concern about the quality of the Heavy Duty straps that accompanied the Yakima JayLow J-Cradle Rooftop Kayak Mount I purchased earlier this year. On July 3, 2023, I attempted to tighten the first strap I used with the mount. Unfortunately, the strap detached at the point of attachment to the buckle. I was fortunate that this happened while I was in my driveway, and no one was injured. However, had this failure occurred while I was driving, the potential consequences could have been disastrous. I contacted Yakima, but they were extremely slow to respond and seemed unconcerned even though I told signaled to them that I believed this issue could result in someone being seriously injured or dying. The specific component that failed was the Super Heavy Duty Strap. This strap has a buckle with a rubber jacket around it. The strap was sewn around the rubber instead of the metal of the buckle. The Yakima JayLow comes with two of these straps. I still the failed strap and a strap which I didn't tighten to failure, but is improperly manufactured. This put the safety of others at risk in that there is a high probability that kayaks attached with these straps (with this manufacturing defect) will fly off the vehicle. I am a mechanical engineer. I inspected it and reported it to the manufacturer. Again, they seemed unconcerned, but did send two new straps which were properly manufactured with the strap sewn around the buckle...instead of around the rubber buckle jacket. There were no warnings to the failure and it would be hard to expect/see the manufacturing defect. One doesn't expect a strap to break like this.

Blue Ox base plate broke while towing car on highway. I have photos of the broken base plate. If both sides of base plate would have broken, car would have come free and would could have hit another car or person. I reached out to Blue Ox to report the problem but have not received any response.

REPORTED FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW MALFUNCTIONING TO NHTSA EARLY 2019 ABOUT THIS BUT NO RESPONSE. MY RESEARCH DISCLOSED THIS PROBLEM WAS RECALLED BUT ONLY UP TO 2006 MODELS OF THE HONDA CR-V. MY HONDA CR-V IS 2009. LEFT WITH NO CHOICE BUT TO COVER REPAIR COSTS OF $325. IS THERE ANYWAY NHTSA AND YOUR AGENCY MAY INVESTIGATE THIS? SAID PROBLEM EXISTS WHETHER OR NOT SAID VEHICLE STATIONARY.

THE CONSUMER STATED HE WOULD LET THE VEHICLE WARM UP EVERY MORNING AS THERE WAS A SOFT IDLE. HOWEVER, SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE IDLE WAS ROUGH AND SOUNDED ROUGH AND IT TOOK TWO TIMES AS LONG FOR THE VEHICLE TO QUIET DOWN. *JB

THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED MUSCLE SPASMS AND SORENESS ACROSS THE CHEST AND BRUISING TO BOTH FEET. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL BODY SHOP AND THE BODY DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE SEAT BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DECLARED DESTROYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, HOWEVER NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

WHILE INSTALLING MY CHILD'S CARSEAT, THE WELD BROKE AND THE ANCHOR CAME OFF OF THE CAR. THIS WAS A STRUCTURAL FAILURE AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED "WEAR AND TEAR".

WE HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN THIS CAR AT LEAST 9 TIMES SINCE PURCHASING IT IN 2010. TWICE IN THE PAST YEAR AND THE BULBS JUST BURNT OUT AGAIN WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK TODAY IN THE DARK. WE HAVE PURCHASES OEM, AFTERMARKET, LONG LIFE ETC WITH THE SAME RESULT. THE CAR WAS MOVING THIS TIME WHEN THE LIGHTS BURNED OUT. THIS VEHICLE IS MOSTLY DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 100 MILES A DAY, WHICH IS WHERE MY WIFE WAS TODAY, AT APROXIMATELY 70 MPH. THE 2002-2004 CR-V HAD A RECALL AND THIS ISSUE IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET BUT THERE IS ZERO RESOLUTION. EVERY DEALERSHIP I CALL SAY THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS, WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING THE INFORMATION OUT ON THE WEB. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE.

I PARKED MY 2009 HONDA CRV IN MY GARAGE AND WHEN I CAME OUT THE NEXT DAY THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. I PUT IT ON A CHARGER, AND WHEN I CAME OUT TO CHECK IT 2 HOURS LATER I NOTICED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE ON WHILE THE LIGHT SWITCH WAS OF OFF. I TRIED TO START IT AGAIN BUT THE BATTERY WAS STILL DEAD, BUT THE LIGHTS STILL ON. ITS OBVIOUS THAT THERE SEEM TO BE SOMETHING WRONG. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHY WOULD THE LIGHTS GO ON,. ON THEIR OWN. *TR

WHILE STOPPING OR STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC LIGHT(S), WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, ENGINE REVVED UP TO 2K RPM WITHOUT ANY ACTION ON MY PART. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED, AND BRAKE WAS RELEASED, ACCELERATION AND CAR PERFORMANCE BECAME NORMAL AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE SEPARATE TIMES IN THE PAST SIX WEEKS. IN ADDITION, TURNING THE A/C OFF OR ON HAD NO EFFECT ON ENGINE RPM. NOTE: DURING THE ANOMALY, IF TRANSMISSION WAS MOVED FROM D TO N, ENGINE WOULD REV UP TO 5K RPM, AND WOULD DROP BACK TO 2K RPM WHEN TRANSMISSION PUT BACK INTO D ALL THIS HAPPENED WITH FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. FOR THE RECORD: CAR WAS TAKEN TO HONDA DEALER TWICE FOR THIS ANOMALY, THE MEMORY DUMPED, AND NO DATA FOUND. HONDA CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR
