2013 Honda Crosstour Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The car says FCW system fail as well as ABS and LDW lights came on. The car looses power as it drives and lags. I got a diagnostic done on the car at autozone says VSA solenoid valve malfunction code 123-11 and 121-11. These problem started the 100,000 mile plus range

The FCW, LDW, ABS, and the traction control lights came on a couple of days after I had brand new factory brakes and rotors put on. I took it to the dealership and they told me this has been a known issue with the Crosstours for a while that I needed to replace the ABS modulator. Upon my research they were correct, Honda has been aware of this issue for a few years but has yet to do a recall. This is an widespread problem that puts everyone in danger.

All warning lights came on-LDW/ABS/VSA/FCW at first around 7/25/23 . Called Honda service-told to bring it in for diagnostic check. Then on 7/27/23 power steering went out-had car towed in to dealer-they fixed/replaced EPS Control unit under extended warranty extension 19-036. They diagnosed the electrical systems -said it needed VSA Modulator ($2222.36 prepaid)-and said safe to drive. That was at 54,947 miles on the car-after a couple of weeks, the ‘BRAKE LIGHT’ warning light came on -at first intermittently-then every time-then intermittently again. Called dealership-said -yes-that’s normal, that it happened to other Honda Crosstours an Honda Accords! They said ‘ should be safe to drive’ —???? Would you feel safe to driving this vehicle? Looked online -found article on the VSA Modulator-many Honda Crosstours and Accords had this same problem-saw a picture on why this modulator needed to be replaced-the ‘DESIGN FLAW’ was at the connection where it connected to the circuit board -solder broke, because too much pressure at connection when it plugged in ( vertically plugged in) This should be fixed under extended warranty like the power steering control unt— How or why the ‘brake warning light’ is unexplained, but it’s it a safety issue not knowing? If the brakes fail and someone is injured, minor or fatally, ‘who’s responsible’ -or ‘liable’-the driver or the manufacturer??????? My crosstour still awaiting VSA Modulator after two and a half months!! Issue: 1. Safe to drive 2. Who should pay 3.Who’s responsibility? (Liability)

THE FIRST TIME MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WAS AT A SHOPPING PARKING LOT. LUCKILY MY HUSBAND WAS WITH ME TO JERK IT AROUND AND GET IT TO WORK AGAIN. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS 2 DAYS LATER. THIS TIME I WAS WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD TODDLER RUNNING ERRANDS. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE IT PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN IT HAPPENED. I CAME OUT TO GO PICK UP MY HUSBAND FROM WORK AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE. I CALLED HONDA THE NEXT DAY THEY COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT WASN'T MOVING EITHER. I TOWED IT TO THEIR SERVICE CENTER AND RECEIVE A CALL THAT IT WILL COST ME 1200 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE EPS UNIT. WHY IT HAPPENED? THEY DON'T KNOW... A 3 YEAR OLD CAR THAT I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON JUST DECIDED TO FRY ITS EPS UNIT!!! HOW FRUSTRATING! I AM GRATEFUL THAT I WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON THE ROAD AND IT FOR IT TO STOP. WHERE IN OTHER CASES I'VE READ ONLINE THAT IT HAD HAPPENED TO PARENTS!

WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPLIGHT, A SLIGHT PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT ON THE CAR. SINCE THERE IS NO REACTION FROM THE CAR I WILL PUSH DOWN SLIGHTLY FURTHER ON THE GAS PEDAL IN WHICH CASE THE CAR ABSOLUTELY TAKES OFF AND ALMOST SPINS TIRES. VERY DANGEROUS IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS, ESPECIALLY WITH THE MORE POWERFUL V6 ENGINE I HAVE IN MY CROSSTOUR. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND SCARES THE LIVING HELL OUT OF ME. NEXT TIME I BUY A CAR, I AM GETTING ON THIS WEBSITE FIRST. ALL BUT ONE CROSSTOUR COMPLAINT IS SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO THIS ISSUE.

WHEN WE FIRST PURCHASED THIS 2013 HONDA WE LOVED IT AS IT IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR. MY HUSBAND AND I STARTED NOTICING A HESITATION WHEN STEPPING DOWN ON GAS PEDAL TO MOVE ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE HESITATION BECAME FRIGHTENING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANAGER EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR HONDA AS IT WAS A TRANSITION PERIOD WHILE CHECKING TRACTION. WE SEE IT AS DANGEROUS. NOW THAT WE OWN THE CAR SINCE 3/7/14 WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT OUR OPTIONS ARE. DO WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THERE IS AN ACCIDENT? *TR

AT LOW SPEED THE VEHICLE HESITATES BEFORE ACCELERATING. FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM IN MALL PARKING LOTS. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SLOWLY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. IF YOU CONTINUE TO APPLY THE GAS, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD, ALMOST SPINNING THE FRONT WHEELS. YESTERDAY I MADE A RIGHT TURN ON TO A BUSY ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE JUST DIED. WITH A GARBAGE TRUCK FAST APPROACHING I CONTINUED TO APPLY THE GAS, AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY ACCELERATED. *TR

WHEN STOPPED AT INTERSECTION AND TAKING FOOT OFF BRAKE TO PROCEED, OCCASIONALLY CAR WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD WITH MODERATE GAS PEDAL PRESSURE. BACKING OFF THE GAS SLIGHTLY GETS CAR GOING FORWARD. ENGINE DOES NOT QUIT DURING THESE EPISODES, IT JUST WILL NOT MOVE CAR UNLESS GAS PEDAL POSITION IS CHANGED BY BACKING OFF A LITTLE. THIS CAN BE VERY PANIC-INDUCING WHEN TIMING CROSS-TRAFFIC FOR A CROSSING OR MERGE. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
