Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Electrical150.0%
  • Tires & wheels150.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

Electrical
Filed Oct 13, 2005

VEHICLE WENT COMPLETELY DEAD, INDICATING A FAILURE IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT AFFECTING IGNITION AND INSTRUMENTATION. ACCESSORY CIRCUIT WAS UNAFFECTED. THIS OCCURRED AT A STOP LIGHT, WITH TWO BRIEF FAILURES PRIOR TO THE COMPLETE FAILURE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. TURNING THE IGNITION KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND BACK TO THE RUN POSITION CLEARED THE FAULT. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR THIS VEHICLE, THE IGNITION SWITCH IS THE ONLY PART THAT COULD CAUSE THIS FAILURE. *NM

DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE TIRE APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 11/2 INCHES IN LENGTH INSIDE THE THREAD GROOVE RUNNING WITH THE THREAD. YOU CAN TELL IT IS NOT A PUCTURE DUE TO THE WAY IT IS CRACKED. IT HAS RANDUM EDGES. WILL BE REMOVING THE TIRE TO RETURN IT TO DEALER WERE IT WAS FOR PURCHASE FOR A PRO RATED REFUND. HAVE PURCHASED THE SAME TIRE FROM ANOTHER DEAL. HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE LACK OF OWNERSHIP BY DUNLOP TO OTHER MOTORCYCLIST WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY SCARRY PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARE ON ONLY 2 WHEELS. IF YOU WILL CHECK THE GOLDWING ROAD RIDE ASSOCIATIONS (GWRRA) BULLITIN BOARD YOU WILL FIND NUMBER OF POSTINGS THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THE DUNLOP TIRES. THESE BEING WITH THE 1500 AND 1200 GOLDWING AND VALKYRIE MODEL REAR TIRES ALL DEVOLPE VERY SIMULAIR SLITS. TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM TO BE A NONE EVENT. DUNLOP KEEPS TELLING PEOPLE THAT THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM. GOLDWING RIDES ARE A VERY CONSERVITIVE GROUP AND NOT WILD RIDERS. LOSSING A TIRE ON A MOTORCYCLE IS A LOT MORE DEATHDEFINING THEN OTHER VEHICLE THAT WHY I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM NEEDS SOME TYPE OF CLOSURE. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO PROVIDE FURTHER HELP OR INFORMATION. PS WILL BE TAKING PICTURES OF THE TIRE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE IF NEEDED.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: MV85HB15 )

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
