American Honda Motor Co., Inc. issued an official Warranty Extension in July 2025 covering engine misfires from piston ring deterioration (DTCs P0301-P0304) on 2013-15 Pilot and 2013-17 Odyssey vehicles. My 2015 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX]) experienced this exact defect, resulting in severe engine misfires and secondary alternator failure caused directly by engine fluid saturation leaking onto it from the primary defect. I paid $5,275.80 for repairs prior to campaign awareness (Invoices XXX and XXX). I submitted complete reimbursement documentation on January 31, 2026. Honda has withheld my funds for 178 days (which is 122 days past their promised 8 week deadline) while corporate customer care agents falsely claim payment is “approved but pending final management sign- off.” I have called 11 times and corporate managers who are never available HAVE NEVER returned my calls like the representative with Honda I've spoken with each time assures. This deliberate delay subverts federal safety campaign integrity and artificially manages liability exposure. Request immediate enforcement action for an ongoing corporate warranty evasion pattern. I am submitting this urgent complaint regarding my 2015 Honda Odyssey, equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine referenced in (TSB) 20-023 which acknowledges that the front rocker arm oil control valve (spool valve) gasket may fail and leak engine oil directly onto the alternator located beneath it. This condition can cause alternator contamination, charging system failure, electrical malfunction, and potential fire risk due to oil exposure to electrical components. Despite knowledge of this issue, Honda did not notify vehicle owners and did not initiate a recall. Before the first breakdown occurred, I experienced a frightening and dangerous incident while in traffic. Without any human interference and without my pressing the accelerator, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and moved forward on its own, nearly striking the vehicle in front of me. I had to react immediately to prevent a collision. This unexpected surge was extremely disturbing and appeared to involve an electrical malfunction. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle broke down. After the first breakdown, I replaced the battery. Within approximately one hour of driving again, the vehicle failed again due to alternator failure. I was stranded at night, in darkness, alone, and exposed to active traffic. This created an immediate and foreseeable risk of collision, serious bodily injury, or death. Another car in that area around that time broke down on the highway I was expected to use and was hit by a semi on 95 and the driver of the stopped car was killed. That could have easily been me. A defect that can cause sudden electrical malfunction, unintended vehicle movement, loss of charging capability, vehicle disablement in traffic, and potential fire hazard constitutes a safety-related defect under federal motor vehicle safety standards. I respectfully request that you Initiate a formal investigation Evaluate whether a recall is warranted. Require reimbursement for repair costs Thank you very much.

On December 31 at approximately 300 p.m., our 2015 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and complete loss of motive power while traveling eastbound on the Sam Houston Parkway South just after crossing the Buffalo Bayou Toll Bridge at highway speed. While driving normally, the Check ABS warning light illuminated. Immediately afterward, multiple dashboard warning lights began flashing and the engine abruptly shut down with no warning. The vehicle lost all ability to accelerate and became disabled in active traffic lanes. Steering and braking were severely affected due to the sudden loss of power. Hazard lights were activated while the driver attempted to move the vehicle from the middle lane to the shoulder. We narrowly avoided a collision and were able to stop near the Pine Avenue on-ramp. Once stopped, the vehicle completely shut off and would not restart. All vehicle systems appeared inoperative except for the hazard lights, indicating a possible electrical system failure. Emergency services were required due to the dangerous location. The vehicle was occupied by five people, including three children. The sudden loss of motive power at highway speed created an extreme safety hazard and could have resulted in serious injury or fatality.

I am deeply concerned about the sudden breakdown of my vehicle due to the spool valve leaking onto the alternator and caused the loss of power and stalling of the vehicle while driving out of town and on an Interstate. This was an extremely scary time for me and my family being stranded on an expressway for over an hour and trying to figure out how to get my kids and family to safety. I have heard of others having the same issue with the same make and model vehicle and their repairs was covered by Honda. I don't understand why my issue would be any different and why my repairs are not currently covered by the Honda service bulletin. I would extremely hope honda take a deeper look at including my Vin in the service bulletin. I now understand this to be a well known issue as published in Honda Technical Service Bulletin TSB [XXX] However, no information was sent to owners even though Honda has known about the issue since at least March 2020. This puts unnecessary safety risks for those driving with oil leaking onto the alternator resulting in electrical system shutdowns and issues driving. I believe a recall and safety notice should be issued. Yes, the component was inspected by Honda and replaced. The first indicator was the ABS system warning light along with many other systems shutting down. This occurred at a high-rate of speed on the freeway. I am frustrated Honda has known abut this issue for many years, but has not informed owners nor offered to correct the issue leading to safety issues and costly repairs. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) Look forward to hearing better news from Honda and my repair coverage along with Honda standing by its product reliability.

A spool valve leak occurred leaking oil onto the alternator which caused it to fail when driving. When it failed, electrical systems started to shut down. At first, the ABS system indicator lit up. Multiple systems started to fail soon thereafter. Upon pulling over on the freeway, the vehicle was unable to go in reverse. The root cause was a spool valve leak that is well known and consequently puts drivers at risk when driving at high speeds. When driving down the interstate, all the electrical systems started to shut down. The ABS system was the first indicator, along with multiple electrical systems soon thereafter. Once pulled over, the vehicle could not go in reverse as well. I now understand this to be a well known issue as published in Honda Technical Service Bulletin TSB [XXX] However, no information was sent to owners even though Honda has known about the issue since at least March 2020. REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR POWER SYSTEM FAILED CAUSING THE DOOR TO BE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION ON 2 OCCASIONS. THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR HAS ALSO DONE THE SAME. THE CAUSE IS THE NYLON ROLLERS ON THE DOOR WEAR OUT AND CAUSE THE DOOR TO PULL UNEVENLY WHICH IN TURN CAUSE PULLEY SYSTEM AND CABLING TO PULL AT AN UNNATURAL ANGLE IN THE MECHANISM/DRIVE MOTOR CAUSING THE DOOR TO BE INOPERABLE. THIS CAUSES THE DOOR TO NOT BE ABLE TO BE OPENED OR CLOSED IN THE IMMEDIATE INSTANCE WHICH THIS HAPPENS. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE UNDRIVABLE UNTIL THE CABLES ARE CUT ALLOWING THE DOOR FREE FLOW ALNG THE TRACK MANUALLY WITHOUT RESTRICTION. AT A LATER DATE AND TIME, THE NYLON ROLLERS HAVE WORN OUT TO THE EXTENT THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR HAS BECOME UNEVEN IN THE TRACK MAKING THE DOOR INOPERABLE AT ANY TIME AS THE DOOR IS UNABLE TO BE OPENED COMPLETELY. THIS IS BOTH AN ANNOYANCE THAT ONLY THE DRIVER REAR DOOR IS OPERATIONAL AS WELL AS A SAFETY HAZARD CAUSING THE ONLY EXIT OF THE REAR OF VEHICLE TO BE INTO THE TRAFFIC SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED ON A ROAD, SCHOOL DROP-OFF, PARKED ALONG A CURBSIDE, ETC. THIS IS AN ONGOING AND KNOWN ISSUE TO HONDA, WHICH HAS A HIGHLY PRICED REPLACEMENT PROCESS IN ORDER TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE WHICH INCLUDES REPLACING THE ROLLERS WITH METAL ROLLERS AS WELL AS A NEW LOGIC BOARD AND A NEW MOTOR TO REPLACE THE FAILED SYSTEM.

THE VAN HAS POWER SLIDING DOORS. EVER SINCE IT WAS NEW, WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS NOT CLOSING. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD SEVERAL TIMES BY THE DEALER THAT IT IS BECAUSE WE LIVE ON GRAVEL. I FINALLY TOOK THE VAN APART MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE RUBBER COATING HAD COME OFF THE CABLE THAT CLOSES THE DOOR AND BUNCHED UP AND WOULD LET IT SLIDE FREELY. I BOUGHT A NEW AND WITHIN A MONTH IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. THE COATING WAS COMING OFF. WE JUST TOOK IT BACK TO HONDA AND WERE TOLD AGAIN IT WAS DUST BUT THE COATING IS COMING OFF THE OTHER SIDE AND JAMMING IT UP TOO. MY WIFE HIT A DEER RECENTLY AND THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM IS. THE POWER DOOR WOULDN'T SLIDE AND WHEN YOU PUT IT ON MANUAL MODE WHICH SHUTS THE DOORS OFF, IT WON'T SLIDE EITHER AND MY WIFE HAD TO CLIMB OVER THE FRONT SEAT AND GET MY SON OUT OF HIS SEAT. IF THIS WAS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. WORST PART, MY WIFE SAYS THAT IT HAS NEVER WORKED AND SHE ASKED HONDA ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE WE LIVE ON GRAVEL. NOW THAT OUR WARRANTY IS UP, THEY WANT TO SELL US A BUNCH OF NEW PARTS. I JUST ASK THAT SOMEONE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FACTOR. I CONSIDER MYSELF TO BE PRETTY STRONG AND I CAN'T SIT ON THE INSIDE THE VAN AND FORCE IT OPEN SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT MY KIDS WOULD DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO MY WIFE IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT.
