2010 Honda Ridgeline Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component
Data refreshed
What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2010 Honda Ridgeline, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA RIDGELINE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V061000 (AIR BAGS) AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED WAS UNAVAILABLE TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TAKATA RECALL - I RECEIVED A NOTE IN THE SPRING OF 2016 THAT MY DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE NOTICE STATED THAT THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT WOULD BE AVAILABLE IN THE SUMMER OF 2016. TODAY IS NOVEMBER 4, 2016 AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT MY NEW AIR BAGS ARE AVAILABLE.
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
On Friday 2/18/2022 I was pulling into a parking space with my 2010 Honda Ridgeline. When applying the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated unintentionally and hit the car in the opposing parking space. I stood on the brake harder when I sensed the vehicle lurching forward. After I struck the opposing car, I confirmed that my foot was on the brake and not touching the accelerator. Also, oddly the vehicle immediately stopped running and I noticed the car was in Reverse. I took pictures and video immediately after the incident both inside the car and outside before I touched anything. I then put the car in Park, started the car, and backed it up. I inspected both cars for damage and did not find any damage. I left a note for the other car. The owner later called and confirmed she did not find any damage. One interesting thing that I noticed is that the parking space had a sewer drain in the front left corner that had a large slope and snow/ice surrounding it. The unintended acceleration occurred right when the front left tire hit that sloping ice patch.
BRAKES ARE SOFT AND PEDAL SOMETIMES GOES CLOSE TO THE FLOOR WITH ENGINE ON REGARDLESS OF BEING IN MOTION OR STOPPED. TOOK TRUCK IN FOR REPAIR AT HONDA DEALER THEY THOUGHT IT SERIOUS ENOUGH TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT BLEEDING THEM. BRAKES ARE STILL SOFT BUT HONDA NOW CLAIMS THAT THEY ARE FINE.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the ABS and ESC warning lights were also illuminated. The contact had driven back to the residence. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was determined that, because of extreme corrosion to the rear cross members and structure, the vehicle could to be repaired. The contact was advised by the dealer to pick up the vehicle and take it back to the residence. The contact was aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V430000 (Structure); but was unable to have the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and advised the contact that there was no other help available for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated water was entering the cabin of the vehicle causing the windows to become foggy. The contact stated that the failure happened every time it rained. The contact said there was a strong mildew odor inside the vehicle. Additionally, the headliner separated inside the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a crack on the roof of the vehicle on the driver’s side. The contact was notified by the dealer that the vehicle needed to be spot welded to repair the crack. The manufacturer was contacted by the dealer and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer told the contact that the manufacturer did not spot weld the section of the roof since it could impact the integrity of the sub-frame. The failure mileage was approximately 74,570.

WHILE DRIVING DOWNTOWN AT 4:30PM I WAS SLOWING TO A STOP LIGHT. THE ENGINE ALL OF A SUDDEN SPED UP THROWING THE VEHICLE FORWARD. I CONTINUED TO KEEP THE BRAKE ON, BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT PUSHING FORWARD. I GOT TO THE STOP LIGHT, JUST MISSING THE PEDESTRIAN, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AND MY HUSBAND TOLD ME TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. WE TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON BUT THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AGAIN SO I TURNED IT BACK OFF. I PUMPED THE GAS AND STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS 121634 MILES ON IT.

DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER DRIVING THROUGH ABOUT 8" OF SNOW, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE SO BAD HAD TO PULL OVER AND CHECK THAT THE WHEELS WERE TIGHT. THIS WAS CAUSED BY SNOW ON THE INSIDE OF THE RIM ICE WOULD ROLL AROUND ACTING LIKE A WHEEL WEIGHT .THIS COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THEIR CAR. THIS SEEMS TO BE A POOR DESIGN TODAY IS 2/1/2011 IN BOSTON IT SNOWED ABOUT 7" DRIVING HOME THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN .I HAD TO CLEAN OUT THE SNOW FROM THE INSIDE OF THE RIM. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS AFTER DRIVING THROUGH DEEP SNOW.

2010 HONDA RIDGELINE TRUCKS HAVE THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR FLUID MOUNTED TO THE BASE OF THE FRAME. THE RESERVOIR IS NOT PROTECTED OR SHIELDED FROM ANY DEBRIS WHICH COULD EASILY ENTER INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TO INCLUDE WATER, ICE AND SNOW FROM THE ROAD WHICH COULD STRIKE THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR AND CAUSE A COMPLETE AND INSTANT FAILURE OF STEERING. THE RESERVOIR IS MOUNTED BY ONE BOLT ON A THIN BRACKET WHICH CAN FLEX. *TR

I BACKED MY 2010 HONDA RIDGELINE OUT OF MY GARAGE. IT WAS A LITTLE TOO CLOSE TO MY BASKETBALL HOOP SO I PUT IT IN DRIVE TO PULL FORWARD. THE TRUCK TOOK OFF LIKE A JET AND ACCELERATED ABOUT 20 FEET FORWARD UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO MY GARAGE. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED DOWN AND MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE AND THE BRAKE WAS COMPLETELY PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED BY ITSELF. I AM THANKFUL NOBODY GOT HURT. IT DID A NUMBER ON THE RIDGELINE AND MY GARAGE. A SIMILAR INCIDENT HAPPENED ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO IN THE BEST BUY PARKING LOT. I PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE AND IT JUST TOOK OFF WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NOBODY BEHIND ME AND THE BRAKE FINALLY TOOK HOLD. HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS HURT OR KILLED. *TR

2010 HONDA RIDGELINE WITH 450 MILES WAS REFUELED AT A FILLING STATION. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED, THE DRIVERS DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE. A PASSER BY REACHED INTO THE DOOR LATCH AND "TRIPPED" IT WITH A PEN KNIFE. HE ADVISED THAT HONDA IS EQUIPPED WITH WEAK SPRINGS FOR THE LATCH, AND THAT THEY BREAK. THE DOOR HELD FOR ONE USE; THEN MY 75 YEAR OLD FATHER HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED FOR NEARLY 100 MILES AS HE DROVE TO HIS RESIDENCE. I CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALER, AND DESCRIBED THE SITUATION. HE RELATED TO ME THAT HE HAD AN ACURA MDX WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HE SAID TO DRIVE THE CAR IN, AND THAT IT WOULD BE A QUICK FIX. THE CONSEQUENCE OF THIS IMMENSE SAFETY ISSUE IS THE DISTRACTION OF HOLDING A DOOR CLOSED WHILE IN TRAFFIC AT SPEED. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL AS A DOOR UNLATCHED IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT THE DEALER, WHO WAS AWARE OF IT, AND A PASSER BY AT THE GAS STATION WHO WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. *TR

XM SATELLITE RADIO VOLUME IS LOWER AND HAS LESS BASS THAN OTHER SOURCES. HOWEVER, LOADING A CD IN THE CHANGER AND TEMPORARILY SWITCHING TO CD THEN BACK TO XM AFTER EVERY RESTART BRINGS THE BASS, VOLUME, AND CLARITY BACK TO EXPECTATIONS. DOZENS OF OTHERS ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE ON FORUMS AND MESSAGES BOARDS. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PERFORM A "WORKAROUND" BY CYCLING THROUGH MODES ON THE RADIO AFTER EACH RESTART JUST TO HAVE DECENT XM SOUND QUALITY. *TR
