Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Engine1100.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN JANUARY, AFTER PASSING DEALERSHIP INSPECTIONS IT WAS SOLD TO ME IN "SAFE AND RELIABLE" CONDITION. I HAD NOT YET ADDED 250 MILES TO THIS MOTORCYCLE WHEN MY ENGINE PRODUCED A LOUD CLUNKING WHILE CRUISING AT 55 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY NAVIGATE INTO A DRIVEWAY OFF THE ROADWAY AND TRAILER HOME. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE MAIN CLUTCH GEAR HAD EXPLODED INTO SEVERAL PIECES. UPON CONTACTING HONDA POWERSPORTS NORTH AMERICA TO DISCUSS THIS, THEY INFORMED ME AFTER A WEEK OF INTERNAL RESEARCH THAT THIS ISSUE IS COMMON AND WELL DOCUMENTED AND CAUSED BY THE OIL DIPSTICK BEING INSERTED INTO THE DRIVE GEARS WHILE RUNNING. WHILE THIS IS FREQUENTLY ATTRIBUTED TO USER ERROR OF CHECKING THE OIL WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, OTHERS ONLINE REPORT HAVING THE CAP EVEN SLIGHTLY LOOSE ALLOWS ENOUGH WIGGLE ROOM TO ALLOW THE SAME CONDITION TO OCCUR. I BELIEVE THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS OCCURRING IS MUCH TOO HIGH AND LEADS TO AN UNSAFE USED MARKET FOR THIS MACHINE WHICH IS KNOWN TO BE HIGHLY RELIABLE AS THE CONDITION IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DETECT UNDER NORMAL USED VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURES, EVEN BY CERTIFIED MECHANICS. I'M GLAD I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY NAVIGATE MY VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD WHEN THIS OCCURRED BUT BELIEVE IT TO BE A DANGER TO OTHER MOTORCYCLISTS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS PARTICULAR MODEL IS TOUTED AS AN EXCELLENT BEGINNER OR FIRST MOTORCYCLE.

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

STEERING; STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR

Service news article - To prevent damage during shipping, leather-wrapped steering wheels come with a protective plastic covering. The easiest way to remove it during PDI is to grab the covering with both hands near the top of the steering wheel and pull it toward you, like you see here. The covering comes right off.

"DEALER MESSAGE - HONDA IS LAUNCHING A SAFETY RECALL OF 2010-2016 MODEL YEAR VT750C/CA/CS, VT750C2/C2F/C2S, AND VT750C2B MOTORCYCLES FOR A POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE BANK ANGLE SENSOR. HONDA HAS DETERMINED THAT ENGINE VIBRATION MAY CAUSE THE BANK ANGLE SENSOR’S WIRING TO RUB ON A WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR. CONTINUOUS VIBRATION BETWEEN THE BANK ANGLE SENSOR WIRING AND THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR MAY CREATE AN OPEN IN THE BANK ANGLE SENSOR ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT. IF AN OPEN IN THE BANK ANGLE SENSOR ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEVELOPS, THE ENGINE MAY STALL WHILE RIDING. AN ENGINE THAT STALLS WHILE RIDING INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH."

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
